  1. Make sure they are nailed all the way down. Saw a guy slice his shin open down to the bone today.  8 to 10" wound. First shooter first squad on stage. Got me thinking of all the spikes I have seen sticking up 1/2"-1" and thought nothing of it.  Would have been DQ'd either way as his shotgun did a 180 straight at me as it hit the ground.  Slipped in the muddy conditions around a corner.   First shooter on our squad.  After medical treatment I helped the Match Director rework the stage  to eliminate the problem terrain.

Chuckstur, I think you posted in the wrong section.. This is the IDPA section..Production is uspsa, not IDPA. Production is limited to 10 rounds per mag. IDPA is limited to 10 rounds per mag max SSP/ESP. Mag capacity of 16 SA shots does not matter in either game, unless you are shooting uspsa limited minor.

    Or USPSA Limited Major.

As a CSO at in FL if a shooter drops a mag to the ground on the "ULSC" and proceeds to ULSC I'm not going to call a PE on him.  He did "Unload and show clear". What's the problem... he followed the SO commands and cleared his gun.

If he fires another shot after ejecting the magazine... different story/situation... and a PE

But is that following the rules?

I have heard from a recent student in my NRA instructors course that they wear out after repeated use and stop working.  As they had some and used them on a high volume setting at a shooting range that they run.  That being said maybe at home use it might not wear out so fast?  Some other options to consider a SIRT pistol, I really love the concept but the cost is just crazy I think.   If i was rich I would have one, for sure as they do have a value for dryfire training.  Another option that might be better is the airsoft high quality versions with green gas are about 150-200 bucks and better value than SIRT in my opinion.  If you have a spot where you dont mind cleaning up plastic bb's it would be easy enough to set up one of the kits that are available for airsoft practice with reduced size targets.  Look up keith garcia using them in his garage to supplement his training.   While it doesnt replace training it still has value if you cant afford or have time to hit the range daily.

Another interesting thing to look up is there was a fella who practiced daily with airsoft in japan (Where these pistols are illegal)  he practiced his butt off with airsoft and had zero formal training and came to US a week before the nationals steel match got the gun and practiced with it for a week then dusted everyone at the steel nationals, with his very unusual grip, stance so I think ever since then I like most have not discounted air soft practice.

I have access to a SIRT pistol (3 actually) but I shoot STI's so the grip and draw is going to be detrimental to my practice. Not to mention the triggers on the SIRTS are horrible.  I have heard the same airsoft story about Stoeger.

This topic was dead for a while and just recently brought back to life. I am trying to make the same transition from an XDM to 2011.

I think I have a pre owned SVI lined up. I have been out of the game for a while & a buddy of mine didn't stop in the last 20 years. He doesn't shoot super fast, but he makes his hits count.

I just like to shoot. It should be simpler with higher round count and lower recoil.

If I could only have one I would go with an Eagle in 40.  You can cross over for IDPA and shoot major in USPSA.  Works for 3Gun as well.  Dawson CRP is really just a standard STI with some added parts and a chrome finish which is nice.

  6. Had an RO yell at me to "Watch the 180" in the middle of a stage.  I actually paused and checked and I was no where near close.  After the stage I asked why he yelled that and he said "Well it looked like you were maybe going to break it."  I had at least 45 degrees to go before breaking it.  Probably cost me a second and a brake in my concentration for the stage.  I was reloading moving right to left and he was behind to my right so I doubt he could even see my gun.

  7. Percentage does not really mean much without the time.  I recently shot a match where I shot 32 A on all targets for 2 stages but I got crushed on TIME by guys hitting A/C.  I was shooting Minor so I needed the points.  Since switched to shooting Major.  Turned up the speed and shot less Alphas but hit factor improved considerably.  I did Zero the Qualifier last week seeing how fast I could go.  Pretty fast if I want 6 Mikes!

    % Alphas

    83% Minor

    66% Major

    66% Major

    64% Major
