I don't think that the spring buffers would have the same problem- at least I don't think that the Taccom will. It's all dependent on the spring in the buffer being sufficiently stiff, but I think that the Taccom's is stiff enough to overcome the acceleration of the bolt/buffer system and re-extend the head while it's returning to battery.

If the Blitzkrieg buffer can't do so it's not because of an inherent design flaw in buffers like this, but because of too much hydraulic damping. You can have the same problem when setting up a motorcycle's suspension- too much rebound damping and your suspension won't be able to accommodate the next bump you hit.

" Taccom's is stiff enough to overcome the acceleration of the bolt/buffer system and re-extend the head while it's returning to battery."

This is the part I question.  When I insert the Taccom the "head" is compress tight against the rest of the body forward against the buffer retainer due to the force of the recoil spring.  So what if anything is that stage actually doing?

I guess my main question is will it mess up reloads or unloaded starts somehow, cause it’s already not very easy to jam the mag in for an unloaded start (for me, anyway)

Unloaded starts are from bolt closed hammer down.  So unless you spend time locking the bolt back before you start seating the mag there is not going to be a difference. I have seen younger shooters lock back as they have problems stuffing in a full mag.  Solution would be to downdload the mag a few rounds.  My main mag holds 57 but I can download it 7-10 rounds and still have way more than I need in a stage.

Ok spent the last hour testing.  Opinion as follows.

    Factory 115 gr loads

    1) Better with carrier weight installed using Taccom system. Less dot movement.

    2) Even better when you run a spacer below the Taccom system to reduce carrier travel. Least amount of dot movement I have seen with everything else I have tried.

Downside is there is a "zone" where trigger reset is not 100% depending on how you hold the rifle.  There is also a propensity for the gun to runaway if you hold too light.  At first it was just doubles/triples but i when I relaxed I got a  6-8 rd burst. removed spacers one at a time until I have not been able to bumpfire it. I am definitely seeing a huge correlation between carrier travel and dot movement.

Thinking of taking the carrier weight back out and repeating what I did on option 2 when I have more time.

So tested again today removing the bolt weight.  Recoil was considerably more noticeable and spread increased.

Also tried with the carrier weight installed using a carbine flat wire spring.  Had less dot movement and tighter doubles but had one instance of either hammer follow or failure to reset. Shooting a match tomorrow and my kid is shooting for the first time so I want to error on the side of reliability.  Will test more later.

The hiperfire springs should have no effect on the ejection of your round.  All the springs do is change the trigger pull.  I would suspect it's something with the ejector.  You might need to bend it slightly.

Those springs compress as the hammer comes back.  Heavier springs can slow the bolt.

The carbine has a Hyperfire 24C trigger, Taccom upper, and a Stern lower conversion kit, with a Taccom recoil spring and buffer.. The malfunction is a intermittent (but fails often) fail to eject (empty stays in the chamber area. The change that fixed this is putting the heavier springs in the Hyperfire 24C . Works great now.  Why is this?  What do these springs in the trigger have to do with a FE problem? I'm Baffled.

Are you having a Failure to Extract OR Failure to Eject?  What do you mean by "chamber area?"  In the chamber or floating in the action?

  7. Read the entire thread and several others. Have the Taccom 3 stage arriving tomorrow using with a Faxon style bolt.

Question: Shooting FACTORY ammo does anyone have experience running with and without the carrier weight removed?

Thanks Tim for all your support for the shooting sports and sponsoring Nordic and Kirkwold. Was cool talking with you.

I ordered the amazon one listed in the above post from M8Stealth. Here is the brush research site address: http://www.brushresearch.com/brushes.php?c2=6

Again, if you have multiple shotguns you might do over time or more than one shotgun, I highly suggest getting a 400 grit to start (monitor closer so as not to removed to much, maybe to where you still see a little of the lines/roughness) and swithc to the 800 grit to finish or you might use up most the 800 grit hone on one barrel, depending on how bad the lines are. Also didn't think about it, but I assume some knife sharpening hone oil would likely work found locally.

Before you hone, "MAKE SURE TO REMOVE ALL LEADING 1st". There is no solvent that I'm aware of that can remove caked on lead quickly, so use a screen/brush copper brillo pad that is softer than the steel barrel first. Some copper brillo type pads may only be copper coated and steel underneath, so be aware of that, I suppose doing it once may not be to harmful, but many attempt could scar up the finish. Make sure you oil coat the barrel sections that were honed after so as not to rust & once barrel is seasoned, just light oil.

I also had less but still a lot of lead in the X2, LM, ext choke, so that may need some cleaning of lead and maybe the fine hone may help the leading in the choke and requires closer inpsection and care before honing your choke (I suggest removing the choke to hone it. Pls post if you see any neg/pos results/thoughts on honing the force cone & choke areas. tks

In case it has not been mentioned Birchwood Casey makes a lead removal cloth that works very well.

Not trying to start anything but.....

#1 it is a DQ if you lose control of your gun.  The reason being is people tend shoot themselves or others when trying to catch a falling gun.  Never a good idea to try and catch one on the way down.  Here is the definition of a dropped gun and the rule that is used for the DQ when it's dropped.

Dropped Gun ...................(during the course of fire) A condition in which a competitor loses control of their handgun. Loss of control does not require the handgun to land on the ground or other range surface or prop. It occurs anytime the handgun is no longer in control of either hand, even if it is trapped against part of the body or caught in midair

10.5.14 Retrieving a dropped handgun: A dropped gun must always be retrieved by a Range Officer who will ensure it is unloaded and properly secured in the competitor's holster or a suitable container. The Range Officer may, at his discretion, secure the gun himself or return it to the competitor who will secure it under supervision of the Range Officer. Dropping an unloaded handgun or causing it to fall outside of a course of fire is not an infraction; however, a competitor who retrieves a dropped handgun will receive a match disqualification.

I understand that.  I guess I should have been a bit clearer.  As my hand got about a half inch away from the grip it pretty much launched up into my hand.  The only person that could have possibly noticed it was me as I did not grab for it other than the motion of my normal draw.  It just popped out and into my hand.  Future issues should be solved as I ordered a Saf 014 today.

  10. CR Speed WSM series for STI Edgd. As soon as I reached for the grip as I "exploded" off the start position gun was already on its way out of the holster.  Caught it just out of the holster and kept going without issue but it wrecked my mindset for the stage. It seems the forward momentum of the fully loaded gun was enough dislodge it.  Same thing happened toa buddy with a Bladetech open front holster. Now looking for ideas for a new holster.  I have a few in mind but I have some questions.

How positive is the retention when the lock is disengaged for stage starts?  Think shaking hips back and forth vigorously with fully loaded gun.

  11. So for stage construction would it not be ok to start the shooter with 3 targets side by side at say 3 yards (tactical sequence) then make them engage a second array that are staggered distance of at least 2 yards using tactical priority?  Like below.  P1 = Start position

                                                                                                       T6

                                                                                                T5

                                                                                                                  T4

                                                                                       T1 T2 T3

                                                                                                             P1

  12. My thoughts were unless the recalculate or have everyone reclassify under the new scoring there are going to be a lot of people stuck in higher divisions they are not competitive in.  Its going to suck for a lot of people that are going to get beat score wise by shooters classified under them.  I know it happens a bit now but it will be disheartening for some always finishing at the bottom of their class.

  13. In 40s&w PMC 40D lists 165gr @1000.  Chrono for 173 in my Edge at Area 5.  Win Train and Defend 180gr @ 925 is soft shooting as well and my current choice.  In 9mm Federal makes a Suppressor load that is 124gr @1000fps.  Chrono'd 131 in my buddies Edge at Area 5.  About the same in my Eagle on my Chrono.  Extremely soft shooting load.
