  1. I've used my FF3 for 5 matches and plenty of times out shooting at targets. Probably 12hrs use so far. But always turn it off after use. Could be you are leaving it on at the lowest setting? First is Auto, Full Bright, Medium Bright and Low. That low setting is hard to see, I usually set the FF3 to Auto. Then when I am finished just push the button 4 times, that takes me to off. If I am not sure it is off, I start over again to Auto, then press 4 times. Since that low setting is hard to see. Oh, and the battery is still holding strong after 4 months. HTH.

  2. For a 9mm I have been using the RMR 147 hp under 3.9 of WSF. Fed 100 primers loaded to 1.150. They are a plated but a little harder than Xtreme. Just don't over crimp. They work well in a KKM 4.49" Barrel in a Glock 17. Hope this helps.

  3. 201 voted for the Rock Chucker :) .

I have been loading on my Dad's RCBS Jr II for 10 yrs. The same single stage press my Dad used back in 1975 when I was a kid and watched him reload for 9mm. Now many years later, I am doing the same. Love this little unit and liked the feel of the press. I can tell the primer pocket condition. How loose or tight. Too loose, I throw the case out.

Then when resizing, I get a good feel for how the case's are doing. Too hard to resize, case is over worked and reloaded too many times, I toss those. Or the cases are just bad quality. Out they go. Then seating what a breeze, easy to keep the OAL +/- .003. When crimping, a single stage just has that feel.Too much crimp and too little, it was easy to tell on this JR2.

Now I have a Lee Load Master. Ditched the priming system. Like the case loader feature. But just don't have the same feel as the single stage. I'll use the Loadmaster. But, prime and flare with the JR2. Then load the case's into the 4 tubes. Also ditched the Auto Disc powder Measure and went with the Lee Auto Drum Measure. OAL is not as consistent, +/- .012 :( .

Well I guess its still the JR2, which is great. But at least I can stay tuned to the condition of each piece of brass and use the Loadmaster to up the finished rounds an hour.

  4. I just bought 1000 124 fp xtreme's for my 357 sig. There is plenty of flat lower section of the 124 for the 357 sig. But when I loaded a single 124 for 9mm. It doesn't seem like much surface for the bullet to hold on to. Seems kinda of short. I'm sure someone else will add their experience.

I wanted to respond to what I wrote 22 days ago. Since I shoot Open Major with a Glock 31 (357 sig) and using a 9mm bullet. I picked up a few of the Xtreme 124 fn to use 3 weeks ago. Did some loading, bench resting and testing. Found a few good loads using Power Pistol and Longshot. 124fn is going 1353 fps.

8 yards looks good, but out to 15 yards, forget it. All over the place. I decided to pull a few loaded rounds and check these Xtreme 124's. Too soft, I can see a slight ring where the case mouth was over crimped. I tried to use a light crimp, but the bullet would not hold. Bummer, I have these 124's now.

I decided to get the Montana Gold 125 jhp for this Glock 31. Good luck with the Xtreme's, not for me.

  5. I run a FF3 on my Glock 17 and use it for USPSA and steel challenge matches. It hasn't given me any problems yet.

Copy that. I ran a FF3 on a Glock 17 as well in USPSA. Worked great and held zero. Only problem I had was the ejected cases were slamming against the FF3 frame, glass was never damaged and took a few hits. But the outer edge of the frame looked like a serrated knife edge :surprise: .

Have since changed to Open. Using a Glock 31, Carver Mount, Comp. etc... Now the FF3 sits forward of the ejection port.

CO option the red dot was good from 7-15 yards. Now with set up for Open Major, the higher bore axis to red dot, I have to compensate out to 15 yds.

  6. Don't come to Dundee. Too many people there already. Match directors are wonderful.

Ha, that was funny. They had 105 people Saturday. We finished around 2:30, argh, long day. Rained a bit, but mostly cloudy. Good stages and people. Placed 9th in Open Div. Not bad for me, being 3rd event.

  7. I used the Fast Fire 3 and 8 MOA on my Glock 17. One of the problems was the cases hitting the frame of the FF3. Glass survived but the frame was a beat up. I changed to Open Major and moved the FF3 in front of the ejection port. I used the dovetail mount. For it's distance to the bore axis, it was good from 7-15 yards. Now with the Open frame mount, I compensate for 15+ yards. Hold over.

  8. USPSA Renton April 2016 - Open Division (GoPro Hero4 Session Hatcam)

Do you remember that time when everything went bad? When everything didn't seem to go right? Yeah that was today. I couldn't seem to focus on shooting and felt mentally distracted the whole day.
I am definitely regressing. Two more club matches before Area 1 and this is what I bring to the table. Gotta get back on the practice train.

Loke, one of these days me and my 2 buddies will be up there at Renton. We are Class D and just weekend warriors. We have fun shooting, not nearly as fast as you. We are down in Longview, WA. Hope to catch you one day. Cheers, Lastcat.

  9. I have the Glock 17 Gen 4. Dropped in a ZEV Kit, minus the lightened striker. Works great. I use Federal Primers and the 2# striker spring. 2000 rounds, never a problem. Also shoot in Limited Div, Minor. Loaded to 126 power factor and 11# recoil spring. Don't have a gauge for the trigger pull, but it's light for sure.

With the ZEV kit, I didn't have a bunch of mismatched parts, or try and polish this, or get this part and add this one. Saved myself the hassle and went with what is already proven to work. Good luck.

  10. Yup, at 3-6' sights aren't even required. Actually it's not difficult to extend that range even more and keep all shots in the A zone.

We had a stage this past weekend, a triangle with drums. Starting in the apex of the shooting box, 2 targets in front at point blank range 3 (! not 2) shots in every target. Back up and 4 more targets are presented, back up a bit more and another 4. The farthest shot was possibly 6'. Just look over the gun and point it for all A zone hits just as fast as one could run the trigger. The hard part? 3 shots per instead of 2. I don't remember how many times I had to go back to a previously shot target to add another bullet to it.

A fun stage, a great way to warm the gun up in a very short time.

That would be a fun stage. I remember shooting Carry Optics Div and only my 1st match. The Metric was 3' away and I missed Alphas, totally :surprise: . I think I was just aiming best I could and not using the dot at all. But the gun was new to me, as was the FF3. Had to come home and practice those close shots. Was surprised how low I was actually shooting, the first time I tried.

Lately I have been more in the A zone at close up shots, but took some practice. I wonder what would happen if the FF3 went out at a match? Maybe I could wing it and just aim and shoot  .

  11. Well got this guide rod sorted out. I was using the Wolff guide rod. .270 rod diam and .415 large end diam. It is used for my Glock 31 Gen4. But, it would jump out of the notch that sits in the barrel. Gun fired and worked fine, just annoying trying to get the slide removed.

Bought a Jager Heavey Guide Rod. .500 large end and .270 rod dia.

Works great. I am using the Wolff Round Wound Springs, which works for the .270 dia. rod. I notice it cycled better and no more of the guide spring and barrel colliding. I guess if you have a Gen4 then avoid the Gen3 guide rods. Even though some have no problems, I decided to get the correct rod.

  12. Practice your presentation enough that the dot is in the window, then target focus for shooting. Except for very tight targets.

It's what I have done too. Presentation. For close shots, (3' - 6') I have practiced by just aiming the gun and not searching for the dot.

  13. Didn't have my calipers handy but here is the end of the Zev rod i have. Looks like about 13/32 or .406". I didn't measure the shaft but I use ISMI flat wire springs so it must be around that .234" size.

darkvibe, have you ever had the ZEV rod move off that barrel notch? Mine is the wolff .415 large end and .270 rod dia. I use the wolff round wound springs and the rod jumps off the notch. It works, but it can make it a bear to remove slide. I ordered a Jager rod, should be in this weekend. Will give a review soon.

  14. Wolff. I'm pretty sure you have to use wolff. Which is fine, they work and they come in every weight you could want.

Yep, that sounds right. The ISMI springs works with the .234 dia rods, but not the larger rods at .270 (Wolff, Jager, etc..). Thanks for the help obsessive, will check into that Monday.

  15. As far as I know, only the jager rod fits the Gen 4. I was running a zev with adapter and had constant problems. The jager captured gen4 rod helped a ton.

Do you use the Wolff Round Wound or ISMI Spring?

  16. I do it. Been shooting for years and just started grabbing that trigger guard this year. Not sure why. I do notice my left hand fingers will interlace and lock on top of my right hand. I think that is the reason I am doing it now. Never know, might change back to standard grip. But so far it has worked for me.

  17. Very good idea i purchased an ndz with adapter for gen 4. What a pain trying to get the hex screw started. Good looking out. Thanks Kevin

Welcome Kevin. Might one day go to captured, once I settle on a spring weight. Think this would work to, then try and get the screw started on the end.

  18. As it turns out "well" turned into second place in my division!! I couldn't believe the results when I heard them. So it's official, I am addicted.

    Congrats  .

As derekmelton posted, "it only gets worse". I believe that statement means it will become a major hobby and a good one at that. Get ready to dish out the $$$$. I too was just a shooter from a teen and shot thousands of rounds at paper out in the woods. Friend at work got me involved a few months ago. Shot 9mm Minor Carry Optics. It was for sure addicting. 2 USPSA matches and 3 Pin Mathces later, now its Open Major. Good luck in your new hobby, enjoy.
