  1. I would consider some of the other 2011's first. Fit and finish are not what they advertised. CK, Lonestar, and Hayes customs. There is reason so many DVC's are for sale in the classifieds.

  2. Don't do it! 2011s are great competition guns but not tactical guns. You don't just pull a 2011 out of the box and it's good to go. It needs gun smithing, they don't run dirty, magazines are finicky, and chambers don't like factory ammo, especially issued ammo.
It sounds good even looks good, but it is bad decision. If the gun malfunctions in a match oh well; in real life you are black stripe on a badge. Now, if you're a desk jockey get an SV!

  3. Handgun rounds are not good at stopping bad people from doing bad things. Looking at the available literature, it takes on average 2 to 3 rounds to stop a bad guy. Those rounds need to hit areas that cause incapacitation. So, between those three calibers all do a poor job. You need 2-3 to rounds on target.

So my wisdom would be select a firearm that fits you best, that you will carry (if you don't have it, it doesn't matter the caliber), that you can hit relatively small targets with 2-3 rounds fast and accurate and that has the greatest capacity.

Then spend all of the rest of your firearms time training with competent instructors and practicing so you can hit those small things three times faster and faster with absolute confidence.

    Just my 2¢

So, based on your "available literature" what is good for stopping bad people doing bad things?
What does guns and ammo say is the perfect one shot wonder?
Because a .22 will kill/ stop very effectively if placed in the right spot, as will any caliber.

The statement you made about 2-3 rounds is not based on caliber. It is absolutely based in accuracy, which leads back to training.

    Based on experience.

  4. Fung, your reference article was not written by someone who is a shooter, nor does he know anything about USPSA rules, and probably has never even shot any sanctioned competition match.

"The G17L will not even fit into the regulation box for IDPA or UPSA competition, rendering it virtually useless in many sanctioned or official competitions"

Wrong, yes it is USPSA legal in Open, Limited and Limited 10, the same for MultiGun and also legal for Steel Challenge in Open and Limited. Plus IDPA under Special Divisions (SPD) at the club level ( other firearms which do not fit into the other competition divisions).

completely agree!!! Bob Vogel shoots with a G24 the .40 version of the G17L!

As for accuracy the Glock is extremely accurate. If you change the sights!

The cost to run them is unmatched! Parts are everywhere! And you don't need to be a gun smith to fix them.

  5. USAC isn't any better! I bought 2,000 rds of the new 9mm 124gr.. I can't tell you for certain if it was different lots due to ammo coming in bags that broke in shipping but did come in separate boxes. 1st 1,000 was good, then the 2nd 1,000 went to hell quickly. In a 1,000 rds had 15 squibs over 30 half charges. I have never seen that before.

Below was when I took it range shoot the last of it up. There are 7 bullets I had to tap from my barrel; missing is # 8-9 the first two before I started my photo collection.

Now, USAC did credit me a $100 back, but quality like that: way too little, way too late.

  6. I've got a Gen 2 that I am running 147 SNS molys on top of just 2.8 of E3 at 1.145.  No problems at all but I do run the bolt pretty wet and clean the piston assembly every 500-700 rounds.

I am honestly ignorant to the PF game. What is E3? Every thing else I vaguely understand. What I do understand is the physics at play. What is your Muzzle velocity with that load?

  7. I shoot 147s from extreme in mine with no issues. Both reloads and the freedom stuff. It runs just fine in mine. I use a can too with it

You have a Gen 1, they are capable due to the gas port of shooting the 147gr. The Gen 2 guns not so much.
I know guys who are using American Eagle 147gr. and +P ammos, with success. The funny part is the velocities they are running are closer to standard 115/124gr velocities. Again at that point what is the advantage!?!

  8. So explain this one to me. Freedom Munitions 147g 9mm round nose won't go through. Jams on the first round. A buddy gave me some steel hollowpoint 124g by DT Defense and the gun works perfectly. I shoot the FM in all of my 9mm pistols without an issue.

I had same problem, the only thing I can figure is the gen 1 had slightly larger gas port than gen 2. Honestly, I have been running 115 and 124 with a lot of success.
We want to run them like our pistols, for what reason? Especially if we are running longer barrels and muzzle brakes. 147gr in the MPX is not needed. We are not tricking out the springs yet! With the Lantac MB like our open gun brakes, operate better with hotter loads.

  9. 1.6 is my fastest, consistently I am at 1.8-2.0. I start the reload with movement of grabbing the mag off the belt then release the button. With MPX I have to keep the gun shouldered. It prevents the mag from binding when it is falling free. With an AR mag change, I turn the gun to assist gravity and help with the feed.
The Beer Can grip is a must !

  10. Question

im running a diamond head forearm on my PCC and want to put a thumb rest/stop on but it seems to not be compatible with normal attachment designs?

I think the simple GOGUN thumb rest for AR is all I need .

    Thoughts on attaching?

Actually, that would be an awesome. If they could use Key-mod or M-lok, I would buy one.

  11. Been following this thread but don't recall seeing something like this...   does anybody make a gas operated 9mm upper that can be dropped onto an existing .223 lower (with a mag block, of course) for an easy conversion?  I'm thinking a gas system will eliminate the need for messing with buffers between the two uppers.

Which AR system allows you to use a gas system in 9mm? I am not tracking.

  12. A competitor that was not scoring or running the clock told shooters:

"You F..ing  A**holes that are walking the stage, instead of walking the stage Go F...  tape some targets"

Would this be viewed as disruptive and should this person get a procedural for Unsportsmanlike conduct?

    ADDED 12/20/16 9:45AM  - Additional Information:
The person with the temper was not the next shooter.

It was said to a few shooters that were directed NOT to tape by the ROs as the scoring device was temporarily inoperable.

This person was not acting as an RO and regularly does this type of thing.

Many new shooters have left the range and refuse to come back due to it.

There have been numerous complaints about this person regarding the same issue.

I'm sorry, but as a skeptic this doesn't pass the sniff test.
I can't say I have ever seen an RO direct people not to tape, quite the opposite.
Or see lots of shooters just walk away from a match.
I feel there is still missing and unbiased facts. For example, again what stage was this?
Now, if this dude does have Tourette's or is a bully and doesn't play nice, I am amazed nobody has said anything to him. For example the very thorough RO, or as mentioned MD.

  13. I've got a side charge (left side) AR and MK3000 shotgun.  Have liked that mode ever since I had one of the AUGs when they were first imported.

Never had any problem with charging handle catching on things, only thing on the AR is you want to use a scope mount with no protrusions on the left side.

So, two problems with is the AUG has a charging handle that is at a canted offset to avoid getting snagged.
Second issue, is you are talking about an AUG not an AR-15 (apples and oranges).
I haven't figured out how the shotgun fits in this conversation, but alright.
Now, to compare 3gun to PCC is crazy. USPSA matches tend to operate in tighter spaces which does potentially open the chance of snagging things. My experience with operating rifles in confined spaces I have personally had door jams and corners grab my gun and extensions of my gun. Now add ports and awkward positions common to all matches to the conversation. You are gambling that it won't happen.
However, different strokes for different folks. I don't begrudge anyone from running whatever they want, their gun; their match.
However, in the spirit of this conversation and debate, IMO and experience this is a waste of money.

We're looking for options here that aren't so severe.

Is there another rule besides 6.4.4 that fits the issue a little better?

6.4.4 An individual may be barred from participating in a USPSA match, at the match director’s discretion, if the person:

    a. has demonstrated an inability to safely complete courses of fire, or

    b. has demonstrated behavior which would or may disrupt the match, or which would bring disrepute to the sport.

6.4.5 A Match Director enforcing Rule 6.4.4 must submit a detailed report to USPSA within seven days of the occurrence.

I think you're mind is made up. I wouldn't worry about the ESPN scenario, tapping isn't that exciting to warrant a live broadcast.
I am guessing you were one of the offended. I would also assume that this wasn't the first stage... and his frustration had been building to the point he popped.
If you were one of those people he targeted, I would reflect on yourself first, instead of looking for rules to justify embarrassment.
I guarantee that his statement obviously offended some, but I guarantee that people started taping.
If that was the case, good on him!

  15. The issue is not that it is slow, it is that guys are not practicing. But it will be a bit slower as compensate for the extra distances that have to be covered from support hand starting place to replacement. Compared to a pistol where your hands start together and finish together.

  16. Thanks Rangerdug, you forgot to mention how you get the bolt back, but I know you release your grip with your right hand to drag the carrier handle while pressing the bolt catch with your left. Although it's not all that much quicker I drop the mag and reach under the mag well with my right hand to press the bolt catch while racking the bolt with my left.  Still, it's a two hand job and I'm looking for something which enables me to keep my strong (right) hand on the pistol grip. Racking the bolt with the same hand locking it back seems very efficient to me.

Right at $155.00 (free shipping, though [emoji4] ), but I paid more for my Troy Alpha rail, and other AR parts.  I still haven't got my hi-speed  trigger yet as I wanted this side charger first and those triggers cost big bucks.

As far as the MPX, I don't see a Hard Charger for it on their web site, but I've seen MPXs in operation and they look very sweet, floppy charging handle and all.

If you are locking the Bolt to the rear, why does it matter if you're hand on the pistol grip? To be honest, I don't see how that is valid issue or justification for the side handle.
If you just racking the bolt, I covered that in my original comment. But to be clear you're removing the support hand no matter what you are using.

  17. So, Rangerdoug, how do YOU lock the bolt back with the traditional charging handle without resembling a monkey playing with a football. You went through some well thought out points against side chargers, but my main hope for the side charger is simply a quicker and smoother way to lock the bolt back.

I've heard of that MagPull BAD lever and considered it, but finally decided on the side charger.  This side charger is a Christmas present from my wife.  She's already paid for it, so thanks for the recommendations to try something else, but... well, I'm committed to using it now [emoji4]

I am left handed so I can reach bolt catch with my trigger finger. But for the right handed shooter, not using a BAD like device the grasp the AR around the mag well with left hand, press the the bolt catch with their left thumb, no dirty monkey/ football luv needed.

  18. I will say the idea of side chargers, are neat! I have issues with the reasoning that is flawed.

1.) faster remedial action. BS, what are you fixing! As a righthanded shooter(any shooter for that matter) you are going to give a check. That's how you induce a bigger mess. Whether using POPs or SPORTS you are going to "observe".
You are not keeping your head in the sights. Even as lefty I still have to move my head.
As for comment of keeping your hand on the handle to lock the bolt to rear... who cares you are locking slide back for a reason.
Finally your support hand is coming off the gun regardless. The fraction of a second that is gained on the forwarded location is lost with the directional forces. Meaning, you are pulling center line with a conventional CH and pulling the gun left with side model.

2.) Side Charging handles have a what we call at work a fatal flaw. They get snagged on everything. When they do get snagged the gun don't work. One of the main complaints of the SCAR.

3.) Ambidextrous, not so much! In reality all of the ambi AR charging handles out there now are cheaper and more practical.

4.) Torqued CH? WT% is that non sense. I have spent the last 19 years around the M-4, seen all sorts of issues and malfunctions. Never... NEVER... Never seen a over torqued, bent, let alone a broken (snapped) charging handle.

All in all, this is another jewel from the "good idea fairy". Briefs well but not practical.

*why if this so revolutionary, why don't you see them on all the best shooters guns? Before you say JP's... of every person I know who bought it, every last one of them wishes they hadn't because they "don't" use it.
