All the lefty PCC shooters are rejoicing.

If we're talking about Dragons Cup, Max will smoke me.  I'll be going to DC with basically no matches prior for practice.  Winter sucks haha

    I'm gonna shoot a sub2000

Due to a combination of circumstances, I find myself shooting PCC in order to qualify for the 2026 PCC World Shoot. I won a TR9 and GMR15 certificate at the PrairieFire match. The certificate was used towards a JP5 with the wait being roughly 14 weeks. My buddy has one so I asked to shoot it side by side with the TR9. After one shot, I decided to sell the Taran and buy a JP5 from ShootersConnection. Originally, this was supposed to be my wife's gun, but it's hard to beat convenience. I can literally show up dressed like an accountant and shred stages. No gun belt, no extra gear, no extra weight. So that's why I'm a PCC shooter now. (I'll continue to train handguns with both hands with the occasional match).

This is all interesting to hear.  Wanna buy a MPX?

The advantages of PCC that you said are all reasons I enjoy PCC! I'll quote myself...

  3. Seems like USPSA added in some verbiage to basically make it only an open gun.

    USPSA definition of compensator

"A device fitted to the muzzle end of a barrel to counter muzzle rise (usually by externally diverting escaping gasses)."

The best part is some people think that that gun can't compete with a 2011

    Who cares what others think?

Also, Nils and Mason have proven plastic fantastics can beat 2011s..  point being, pretty sure it doesn’t matter

the JP5 has less muzzle flip/jump and is a pound lighter, although my MPX's are Gen2 and I don't know it the new ones are lighter.

I will 100% disagree that the JP5 has less muzzle flip.

the gen2 and gen3 MPX differences is only ejector and slots instead of round holes in gas block.

I have a DS9Open & shot it at USPSA Nat’s last weekend. I had 2 malfunctions, both of which were “operator error” & not the gun.
i shoot for team MPA, so take my review for what it’s worth to you…

it’s the flattest shooting 9major gun I’ve ever shot. I’m using a 10 MOA RTS2 V5 dot. It returns to zero perfectly.

Why haven’t you convinced them to make a real lefty grip mag button?!?!  I’ve already asked

People would shoot a squirt gun division if their friends were and if a large number of regular shooters plus "heat" did as well. There is a strong component of 'everyone is doing it so it's cool' vs let's do this because the gun is cool.

I agree with this.  I feel at least in my New England area, LO will be a popular division.  I know I want to do it.

Thanks! More interesting data points about ammo and cleaning. Appreciate your thoughts on what bullet weight you like to use.  Just so I understand, can you clarify "I'd 100% look at a JP5 over a MPX"? Do you mean you think it is worthwhile to compare the two, regardless of the price difference, or was there something you liked better with the JP-5 (seems you like the recoil of MPX better, but figure the JP-5 could be tuned to match)? Is it just the effort to maintain?  Curious.

The JP5 is still a blow back gun, so therefore you don’t have a gas system to clean. The cost of my MPX after all the parts installed to make it what I want is basically the same as a factory built JP5. Keep in mind, I’m not sponsored or anything so I paid full MSRP on all my MPX’ (I own 3) of $2000. I LOVE the MPX. But I’ve seen many people including Lena Miculek have it choke on them during a stage.  I just know my combo of ammo/maintenance seems to make my MPX’ run 100%

I’d still look at the JP5 as it’s probably an easier gun to maintain.

Bdh821, on a round count basis, roughly, how frequently do you clean/lube your well runnign MPXs?

I just cleaned one of my MPX' this past weekend for the first time in maybe 2500 rounds?  I'm honestly not sure how many tho.  It was very dirty I know that.  It ran 100% flawless.  The gun is relatively new too.  But I also do not know the round count through it.  I would oil the bolt to receiver areas with basic CLP on almost every time I used it once it really looked dirty.  I don't over oil tho.  I use a needle oiler bottle so I can put it exactly where it needs to go.

Also, did you have any concerns with ammunition selection, and the MPX being finicky with ammo?  I reload, and use 125 gn coated bullets, at around 130 PF for my pistols. I was wondering if problems are seen with coated vs plated, and with different PFs.

I have never put factory ammo thru my MPX' so I cant speak for that.  I've tried many different powders and have settled on using Alliant Sport Pistol.  I do NOT use coated bullets as they foul up the gun and comp real quick. I've had amazing accuracy with RMR 115 FMJs.  I can do a 1/2-3/4" group bench rested at 25 yards which is also my zero. I also use Everglades 115 heavy plated projos.  But for my "major match" ammo its the RMR 115 FMJs.   I prefer the quick recoil impulse of 115s.  I've done 124s and 147s.   I prefer 115s....   I do 4.5gr of sport pistol under a 115 @ 1.135" which makes right around 140pf.  Its a gas gun, give it gas...

I'm hoping to do more extensive shooting of a MPX that my friend has (though he has it highly modified), and I'm trying to find other club members that have a JP-5, so I could give it a try. But, it is useful to hear about the maintenance side of things from the community.

I do know the MPX is a lot of work to clean.  The gas system isnt difficult but its time consuming.  Some people just swap out parts and ultrasonic the ones they took out.  I dont do that.  If I were getting into PCC right now, I'd 100% look at a JP5 over a MPX.   Having shot the JP5 multiples times now, I still prefer the recoil impulse of my MPX over others JP5s.  That being said if I tuned the gun to shoot how I like, I'm sure the difference would be negligible

This thread seems to have experienced some drift.

Back on topic: it appears that Springfield prodigy plates are shipping. My order finally went to "awaiting shipment." One step closer to limited optics 👍🏻

I agree and I 100% purposely doing it to get people triggered. As it’s funny how upset people get about things.

that’s exciting about your new setup!  I think I may slap a magwell on my 320 and call it a LO gun!

  11. Most matches in MA during the winter get filled within 5 mins of opening for obvious reasons.  I travelled to other states during winter months to stay sharp with shooting but required a lot of $$ with planes/hotels/car rentals.  BUAS is one to check out over the winter, but very far away from chicopee...  My local club does weekly practices but again, far away from chicopee.  DM me for more info if interested

STI turned their back on people who built their company chasing blue line dollars. Pepperidge Farm remembers when they produced a pair of guns that had the USPSA logo engraved on the slide. If I ever go back to wanting a 2011, it'll come from SVI or someone else who actually won't spit in our faces.

    Edit: I can't spell

ive owned 5 open guns since the fall of STI.  I think I'm done with open as ive sold them all

Every single MPX I have ever seen used in matches has some sort of malfunction, nearly religiously. It’s finicky with some ammo, and in my opinion, there is far too much daily/constant maintenance required to keep it running.

All 3 of mine run flawless.  You're welcome to try one at a local match 😄

Not with a good Open shooter in the mix.

I just searched Dragons Cup results for 2021...  HOA, Max Leograndis / PCC.  That match was stacked with top Open shooters 😎

but I do agree with you as MOST wont get to his level.  other than Justine
