The Viper GenII has much better glass than the Strike Eagle.  The dot is daylight bright.  Much better scope than the Strike Eagle IMO.

Thanks for the feedback.  Am I right to assume then that the Strike Eagle's dot is not daylight bright?  Is the Viper a true 1X?

  2. I have a opportunity to get a good deal on a Vortex optic of my choice.  Right now I'm running a Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4X and like everything about it except the fact that it isn't 1X at the low end.  I'm thinking of giving the Strike Eagle 1-8X or the Viper PST Gen II 1-6X a try - which one would you go with for 3gun?  Is the Viper worth twice the price, and if so, which reticle (MRAD or MOA) is preferred?

From TFB: "The rear of the latch is recessed to protect it from being bumped. This maintains the feature of being able to quickly empty the magazine tube when you want to."  http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2018/01/23/shot-2018-beretta-1301-tactical-now-fde-aridus-upgrades/

I'm curious about this as well.  Can anyone confirm if there have been any updates to the latch (or anything else) on the comp model?

What is the target market for this gun aside from collecting or a range toy? I guess a carry gun? I'm sure it'll be a fine gun, I just am not seeing the practicality of it

I know of at least one person who would have opted for this instead of a Wilson Combat EDC X9 as a carry gun.

  5. I'm just starting off in 3gun having only done only one match last year with borrowed equipment.  I had a chance to try some IP shell holders and like them.  It was recommended to me to have the ability to carry at least 24 shells on my person.  I have around a 33" waist and use an Ares Aegis belt.  The belt has a large buckle that limits my ability to run shell holders too far forward.  Would it be better to go with two Rack 12Qs or three 2-point Eights?

  6. Finally got to use the Prairie Dog baffle for a couple thousand rounds of 9mm during the holidays.  I was initially disappointed as I didn't see much difference during a couple sessions, however, on my last session I was getting very good consistency.  The only difference was I believe I filled the powder hopper a bit more on the last session.  I plan to keep using it and will see if it continues to provide improved consistency.

  7. Bumping this thread because I picked up both a 3G and 24C during the recent Optics Planet sale.  I couldn't decide which one I wanted so I figured I'd get both and return the one I don't want with their free return shipping.  With their sale pricing, the 24C was about $50 more than the 3G.  I know people generally like the straight trigger of the 24C with the "Hipershoe", but is it worth a 40% increase in cost?  Looking for some advice on which to keep.

  8. I’m interested in picking up a M3000/M3K for 3Gun and have read the last 31 pages of this thread.  I don’t have any experience with semi-auto shotguns, but so far I’ve seen a lot of comments with issues such as FTE/FTF among others that have me a bit concerned.  Please correct me if I’m wrong, but the impression that I’m getting is that there is a lot of fiddling required to get these guns to run.  Is this part of the trade-off for the low entry price or is it typical for semi-auto shotguns in general to be finicky?  Where would a stock M3000/M3K and an MOA competition package gun fall in a list of most reliable to least reliable shotguns for 3gun?

  9. I started reloading about a year ago and have loaded and shot around 7,000 rounds since then. So far, I’ve had no issues with function or accuracy with any of my Gen 3 Glocks (G19, G34). Recently, however, I’ve noticed some strange behavior when shot through a Gen 4 G34. At 50ft, the Gen 4 is grouping 2-inches high and 2-inches left. The same gun shoots POI/POA with Federal HST 124gr, Speer Gold Dot 124gr, and my friend’s light 147gr reloads. Any thoughts as to why I'm seeing a POI shift from my reloads only with the Gen 4 G34?

This is the load I’m using:
    X-treme copper plated, 9mm, 124gr RN
    4gr Titegroup
    1.150" OAL
    Crimp is about .379" - .378" DIA
    CCI Small Pistol Primers
    Primarily Federal and Blazer brass
    Loaded on a Dillon 650

    Velocity is around 1131fps

I've verified this behavior a few times and have even had a couple other people shoot the gun and experience the same POI shift.

  10. I've been shooting Gen 3 Glocks for a while, but when I decided to get a 34 this past fall I thought I'd give the Gen 4 a try. After putting a little over a thousand rounds through it, I felt like we just weren't gelling.

About a month ago I found a NOS pre-mim Gen 3 and bought it - much happier with this one. For me, it was mainly the trigger, but I also prefer the grip shape of the Gen 3's, and they also seem to shoot flatter. Since my wife likes the slimmer grip of the Gen 4, it is now her HD gun so it all worked out.

  11. For a little over a year now, I've been using a Gen 3 Glock 19 for IDPA and occasional USPSA competitions. I've been doing fairly well with it, but at some recent practice sessions, three different people let me try their Gen 4 G34s after I first ran the stages with my G19. On average, my times improved with the G34 by about 18%. Naturally, I'm now very interested in picking one up for myself.

Should I stick with the Gen 3 since that is what I'm currently running or do the changes to the Gen 4 make it a better choice for competition?

I do prefer the texture of the Gen 4 grip, however, I like it setup with the medium backstrap so the grip reduction isn't a factor for me.

    Thanks!
