I like to collect 2011s, personally the Staccato is great for its price point and Atlas should be the peak of the most expensive if you want to go that direction, surprisingly the TR-11 from Triarc is very good too at a $3200 price point but lead times are 2 years apparently.

Those are all very Timmy options.

Triarc is a poor choice for competition, as is Staccato unless you want to only shoot Steel Challenge or 2/3-gun.  Atlas is fine, but there are cheaper options with better lead times and availability.

  2. Well, I got off work early today so I swung by the LGS.

I brought my Honcho (so PT Evo grip/catch with a Dawson Ice magwell) to check out compatibility, as well as a mag gauge I designed and 3d printed.  The 20 rounders look like true 140mm mags and easily cleared my 141.25mm gauge.  However, the basepad is a non-toolless design - the typical locking tab with a hole.  It doesn't look like there's a lot of room between the rails at the bottom of the tube and the bottom of the mag gauge, so maybe something like the 3mm Taran basepads would work.  The tubes are ambi.  The 20 rounder stuck in my Honcho and didn't want to release cleanly.  Not my magazine, so I just tried it a few times and gave it back.

I took a quick look at the 5" gun.  It's about what you would expect if someone told you Springfield built a 2011.  Nothing obvious in fit and finish, but I didn't take it down and detail inspect it.  Using my calibrated trigger finger pull gauge, I'd guess it was maybe a 6-7# trigger, crisp enough after takeup.  So not fantastic, not terrible, about as expected.

I'm not going to rule out getting a 140mm magazine to play with, but my confidence in it isn't that high.  Still, for half the price of an Atlas or MBX, I'm willing to experiment a bit.

People think they can buy skill with gear. Most would rather complain and make excuses about divisions than put time into improving with dry live fire practice.

Back on topic, this is an interesting move when Limited is dying and 3 Gun is no where near where it was. I'm curious what the target market is.

Timmies.  The introduction clip on Youtube had TGO, and then two tactical influencer types.

The capacity of the mags concern me.  Round counts are 17, 20, and 26 (presumably a 120/126mm, 140mm, and 170mm)?  Plus I haven't seen how the basepads for the 20/26 rounders are attached.  I'd be more interested if I could get the mag tube and maybe the basepad and try out all the random followers/springs I have lying around to try to get to a good capacity.

It was not on this forum.

Well, now I'm a little less sorry. 😛

Dura-Mag has a preview of the new mags on Instagram.  I'll pick one up if it's cheap and comes in a 140 or 170.  Worst come to worst, it's my permanent Barney.

    Msrp rumored 1499 and 1699

Undercutting Staccato by quite a bit.  If I was in the market for a "beater" or "timmy" 2011, and the parts aren't made/machined out of play-dough by a toddler, then I think they have a winner.

Apparently Mec-Gar is making mags too.

The Atlas Uses TTI Base Pads. I also want to point out that "Cranking down" the set screw alone isn't going to keep the set screw from backing out. You need to apply some blue lock tight to the set screw, then tighten it down to the desired pin resistance setting. Do that once, and you are done for the life of the base pad.

ANY screws used on or in a firearm need lock tight on them to keep them from backing out. That is gun maintenance & reliability basics. Also don't assume that any manufacture has applied lock tight to the screws for you.

Loctite is a lesson I should have learned a long time ago.  I think I lost about 3 HF on a classifier yesterday because my mag button loosened and prevented a magazine from dropping free.  It's getting Loctited tonight.

  7. I've lost about 5 of the little pushpins that prevent the basepad from moving, even if I crank down on that set screw.  I'm about done with Atlas's basepads.  Has anybody tried different basepads?  I've already put TTI followers and springs in my magazines to get one more round in, so next time I hope Atlas just sells me a tube and I'll build the rest of the magazine myself.

  8. The good and bad of the Tanfo front sight swap is that it's easy.  So easy, sometimes, your gun will do it for you by launching your front sight downrange never to be seen again.

Undo the set screw, tap your front sight forward, tap your new one in, and make sure you have the set screw well loctited.

  9. What sort of battle belt? The padded type or the two-piece Velcro?

I think the biggest things to watch out for would be the typical drop holster puts the heel of the pistol below the top of the belt, there might be excess offset, and you can't have a leg strap.

  10. I've got a Lynx sitting in my DAA cart right now.

How "sticky" was the velcro on the Lynx?  And is the velcro the molded type?  I've noticed the brackets on gear tends to push down the velcro behind the belt, which is to be expected, but means if you move things around the belt might not stick as well where the pouch/holster used to be.
