Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. After range time with the Mod.2 45 impressions. Better out of the box trigger than standard XD in my opinion. But it will still get a PRP to reduce weight, it's not excessive but I have gotten spoiled from having PRP kits in all my other XD/XDS. Ergonomics are great. The undercut and finger groves really settle the Mod.2 in my hand better. And the 'posi wedge' or whatever they call it at the rear of the slide serrations does aid in racking the slide over the XD. With the 9 round mag my pinky had nowhere to go and personally that makes it uncomfortable for extended shooting for me. I put a Pearce extension on and problem solved, actually I cant believe how perfect the grip feels overall with the extension on the 9 round mag. Shooting - recoil is as expected right between the 4" service and the XDS. The hand filling grip of the Mod.2 makes recovery easier than with my beloved 3.3 45 XDS. Bottom line. The XDS 45 3.3 has been my edc for a couple of years now except when colder weather allows me to dress to conceal my XD 45 service. The Mod.2 is definitely going on my belt when the holster makers catch up and as much as I love my XDS it may get to spend a lot more time in the safe now.
  2. I just tried the Mod.2 45 in my KT-Mech 'Gunfighter' holster i had made for my XD svc 45. It snapped right in and retention was just as good. i did notice while doing the check that the take down levers are in a different position on the Mod.2. Even though the backs of the pistols were lined up in this shot its kind of hard to tell so I measured from the back of the slide (not the back of the frame) to the rear most point on the takedown lever svc - 3.78 m2 - 3.47 I dont think this will cause a major problem in using the Mod.2 in leather holsters made for the XD svc. But as far as kydex goes I think that optimal retention might be affected depending on how closely the holster is molded for the XD svc.
  3. We all know what the outside looks like so I wont bother with that . Slide - notice the Mod.2 on the left has the semi wadcutter bump. Recoil spring assembly - notice the bottom spring from the Mod.2 has the thin end similar to the xds recoil spring assembly as opposed to the upper one in the photo from the XD svc Barrel lug - top is Mod.2 lower is XD svc Side by side shots of the new barrel lug
  4. on XDTalk I am Tx308. I just posted this there and thought I would share it here in case anybody was interested. Picked up my Mod.2 45 today. Started cleaning it and thought I'd take a few measurements and pictures. Measurements were taken from my Mod.2 45, XD 45 service and XDs 9mm (my XDs 45 is out getting TFX sights installed). All measurements are in inches. height - from bottom of magazine to top of slide (sights not included) svc - 5.60 m2 13rd mag - 5.57 m2 9rd mag - 4.59 xds 9rd mag - 5.20 xds 7rd mag - 4.22 Grip width svc - 1.21 m2 - 1.19 xds - 0.95 mag release overall length svc - 1.13 m2 - 1.17 xds - 0.98 Slide width svc - 1.08 m2 - 1.08 xds - 0.91 width at takedown lever svc - 1.27 m2 - 1.21 xds - 1.05 width at slide stop svc - 1.29 m2 - 1.28 xds - 1.00 width at thumb rest svc - 1.25 m2 - 1.26 xds - 0.97 tip of trigger to back of grip (taken at slight angle to find shortest distance from tip of trigger to rear of grip) svc - 2.96 this pistol has the prp kit installed so its shorter than factory m2 - 3.05 xds - 3.00
  5. Previously - 10 years in LE. Got out because it was to hard to support the family as a small town LEO. Miss it everyday. Lots of crap jobs looking for the right thing. Now working in the oilfield in the Texas panhandle.
  6. During chemo in 2011 I couldn't shake the thought that I was rotting away inside. Got through that and then went through a much needed long overdue divorce and felt like my whole life was rotten. Fast forward to a couple of years ago when I met my fiancee. We had been dating for a while and I noticed she was always admiring my tablet so when her birthday rolled around I got her the latest model. When she saw what it was she said I was a rotten man. The way she said it completely changed its meaning for me in the best way. Her tablet gets used every day at her job and my new nickname stuck.
  7. I should have my Mod.2 45 in hand by Tuesday. Won't be able to get to the range until Wednesday. I'll post my impressions soon after. I have both an XD service 45 and XDS 45 to compare against.
  8. I'd love to, but have to work. Is there a calendar with dates and locations for the panhandle area?
  9. Ranger Trace did you know Jackie Peoples? I worked with him on one major case and several minor ones. The majority of my days behind the badge were in Lamb and Parmer County. Working in the oilfield now around Pampa. Thank you all for the welcome. A red dot of some sort is definitely in my future, just have to give it a little time to see how the oil price drop is going to shake out down to me.
  10. Hello all! New to the forum but not to guns. I don't really see myself getting into competition, my eyes aren't what they used to be. Plus my local range only has cowboy action shooting matches which aren't really my thing. So why am I here you ask? Back in my LEO days I did a lot of tuning on 1911's and wheelies for the local LEO's on top of reloading for every caliber we carried. I got away from guns during a bad marriage and only since that ended a couple of years ago have I gotten back into handguns. I've seen a lot of great info here that I can apply to my hobby of tuning and reloading. I've got 2 1911's and 6 Springfield Armory xd platform pistols. Yeah I kinda likes me some xd's. Figured I'd better join so I can ask questions from time to time. Preferred caliber is 45acp.
