How do you decide which brand to go with for presses?
johnson184 replied to johnson184's topic in General Reloading
What are your thoughts on RCBS? I'm leaning towards getting the Pro Chucker 7 and a AmmoMaster 2 for .50BMG and .338 Lapua loading. -

Interesting. Ya, it just seems like most everyone on here is telling me Dillon. I was going to look at a Hornady and a RCBS pro chucker 7 tomorrow at a local reloading shop so I'm hoping to better understand them tomorrow. -

Alright thanks guys. I'm actually sorta familiar with the Dillon 550B, but I've never seen the Hornady before in person. Would you say the Hornady is just as good? There's a rebate promotion running... and the Ammo Plant seems pretty affordable yet tempting compared to a Dillon 1050. -

Needing a progressive press for reloading 9mm, .45ACP, .223, and .308. Also going to need a single stage press for 50BMG and .338 Lapua. Would you recommend sticking with one brand for both presses? Or no problem buying presses from different brands? I'm leaning towards either a Dillon 550B and a Lee .50BMG press or going all Hornady or all RCBS. (Doing my best to figure out the differences between each) -
New to reloading, but looking for a nice powder to stock up on for 9mm and some .45ACP loading. Wanting to stay with the Hodgdon family right now since their reloading information is all online and instantly available. Do you have any preference between the new CFE powder and the Universal Clays? Or just get whatever's cheapest to load or actually available?

A Nordic +6 tube (9 total) is even with the end of the barrel on a 24" M2. The +7 tube (10 total) is even with the end of a 26" M2 barrel. Awesome, really appreciate that info. Just curious... what length tube is everyone running for 3 gun in your area? Seeing quite a bunch of 12 shell tubes lately. I run a 14 round tube in 3-gun. I'll be using a 12 at the World Shotgun Shoot in Italy next month because of tighter walls and ports. 12 is the norm here, I'm in central Texas. Thanks for the info! What barrel length are you running?

Any chance someone has pictures of their M2 with magazine tube extensions? Trying to gauge how much longer a 10 shot or 12 shot magazine tube is compared to a 24", 26", or 28" barrel.

Your Kahles is lighter? On the specs posted online it seems like the Swarovski is supposed to be lighter. Which reticle do you prefer using? Any comments on why you lean slightly more to the Z6i? What reticles did you go with?

Which scope and reticle would you guys recommend for a 3 Gun rifle? They're literally neck and neck in price for me so I'm just hoping some of you can enlighten me with your preference. No dealers around me that stock them to check out in person.

Well darn, I was all set to get a 28" with a 3 + 9 extension, but now I'm not sure. I gave Taran Tactical a call today, and they recommended I send them a 24" M2 with a maximum of 10 shotshell capacity being needed. I forgot to ask them why that barrel length though.

TTI Glock 34/17L or STI DVC Limited?
johnson184 replied to johnson184's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
I thought the 17L is longer than the 34? And I'm leaning more towards 9mm as it's my favorite handgun round and what I enjoy shooting most. Never was a fan of the .40 -
Looking to get a nice 9mm for competition. Mainly 3 Gun right now. I've grown up shooting a Glock 19 and so I've been told to get either a G34 or a G17L to send to Taran Tactical. But I also have been seeing a lot of buzz the past several months about the STI DVC 9mm Limited. What would you guys recommend?

Ended up sticking with the Larue. Not rifle length or lightweight, but with the adjustable gas block and muzzle brake, I'm hoping it'll be close.

Nightforce 2.5-10x and offset irons? Or Vortex Gen2 Razor 1-6x?
johnson184 replied to johnson184's topic in Rifle - Technical
Hmm, looks like the Vortex for me then! But what do you guys think of the new Trijicon Accupoints? Love their acogs, but I haven't had the chance to try those new ones out. -
Going to start hunting down a Benelli M2, but I was wondering what barrel length you guys recommend. Probably going to send it to Taran as soon as funds allow.

Are you guys talking about the regular JP LMOS? Or the aluminum version that's even more expensive? And may be a stupid question... but can you use any bolt just fine inside their low mass BCG? Or should you pair it with the JP Enhanced bolt?
-
Currently eyeballing the Rainier Arms Ultramatch... 18", rifle length gas, .223 Wylde, Stainless Steel, from a Shilen Barrel blank, and that 90 day guarantee has me leaning that way. Also eyeing a JP SuperMatch light contour 18". Any others I should research?

Nightforce 2.5-10x and offset irons? Or Vortex Gen2 Razor 1-6x?
johnson184 replied to johnson184's topic in Rifle - Technical
Well I'm now deciding between the Vortex Gen 2 vs the Swaro. Is everyone using the JM reticle on the Vortex? I literally can't find a single Swaro near me to test out in person. From what you're saying, the illumination, glass, and build is superior in the Swaro? -

Which reticle do you recommend for the Swaro? And EE or regular? -

Alright you boys convinced me to go 1-x! Is the top dog the Vortex Razor Gen 2 with the JM reticle? Is there anything else out there I should be taking a look at around $2500 and under? And I think I'll get some offset irons as well just so I don't have to worry about rotating magnification back down for certain stages. Dueck the go to offset? -
I'm primarily interested in shooting Steel Challenge, 3 Gun, and Pro-Am. I may pick up USPSA or IDPA in the future, but I'm just dipping my toe into competition shooting this summer. Seems like the only restrictions for those main 3 is just having iron sights and no muzzle brake. I'm considering the G34 due to my familiarity with shooting my Glock 19, but I'd like to send it off to Taran Tactical for their RTS package. Like the Gen4 MOS for its red dot option for fun, but I'm told the Gen3 is preferable due to its superior trigger pull? The other option I'm considering is a CZ SP-01 of some sort from their custom shop. I tried out a regular CZ SP-01 before and liked it with the exception of the trigger reset and having to learn the double action pull. I'm wondering if a custom version would be better. I was told by the Steel Challenge guys that they're the best of the best, but I was warned by the 3 Gun fellas that they're not utilized much due to its safety and tossing them into buckets can knock the safety off. Finally... are there good holster recommendations for either of them?
-
Been considering getting a VP9 or a G34 MOS, but I realized I was forgetting all about the great things I've heard about the CZ75. I'm really hoping to get some free time this summer to get into competition shooting as my local range hosts 3 Gun, IDPA, and USPSA competitions frequently. I do have 1 quick question on how the sights are set up. Are they set up as combat sights where you place the target behind the front dot? Or pumpkin on a post like for a Glock? I personally am used to Glocks and the pumpkin on a post view so I'm wondering if I'll need a version with adjustable sights. Was recommended to buy this CZ 75 for bang for buck as an all around gun or this CZ 75 for a dedicated competition handgun. What are your thoughts? I'm leaning towards the first CZ 75 I linked, but I'm told the Custom CZ 75 rival custom 1911s in trigger pull, accuracy, and quality.

Looking for info on G-Code Products
johnson184 replied to swandme's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
I run an Incog as my main CCW holster for my G19. Have it actually at the 12 and it's very comfortable and hides perfectly. I'm not sure I'd recommend it if you're a heftier guy as it may jab you quite a bit in the gut.
