  1. Hi Guys Thanks for the input. 8.0grs of 3n37 with Zero 125JHP at 1.170 pf=169 Aaron
  2. Thanks guys Thats given me a starting point, i'll let you know how it goes on the chrono on the weekend Mank thanks
  3. Anyone using 3n37 for Major 9? Thoughts ideas appreciated, using 124gr JHP Thanks in advance
  4. Have you cleaned the mag tube & checked that the follower is not hanging up?
  5. Hi Pete I brought the standard 930 with 18 & 1/2 barrel. Every now and then it will fail to extract, leave the case in the chamber & try and stuff the next round up its backside, which results in a very hard to clear jam. It seems to be solved by using Winchester 7 & 1/2 target loads with the steel rim. Let you know more when I have figured something out Cheers Aaron
  6. Hi All Please find attached the link to the 2013 Australasia IPSC Handgun Championships Level 4. 7. Thanks guys Much info to work with, I'll let you know how I get one. AT
  8. Thanks All I am reloading strong hand, but I do practice weak hand reloads as well. When your forced to start on the RHS of the range its very easy to break the 180 loading while moving to the left and reloading strong hand. The 8 x 38's just seem more inclined to hang up, on the 45 you (sort of) throw them in the general direction of the cylinder and your good to go. What is the best projectile style? Round nosed? Plated or lead? I'll see if there are some short colt brass about, would I need a different shell plate and dies than 38/357? or can they be used, I'm using a dillon 650. Cheers AT
  9. Hi Guys I have been shooting my 625 for awhile now and its a a breeze to reload. When I recently got a 627-5 I am finding it quite a bit slower to reload. What can you do to help improve the reloading of the 627. I am using moon clips & 38 special cases. I have switched to a heavy crimp on the cases & polished the charge holes & ejector star. Is there anything else I can do? AT

    627-5

Hi Guys & gals I might have a chance to buy a performance centre 627-5 I am guessing in 357 Are these good guns? anything I might need to watch for (beyond normal revolver timing etc?) and what would you expect to pay for one in "mint condition" fired only 4-500 rounds? Thanks in advance Aaron T
  12. Enrico I use 5.1 VV N320 with a 200gr Frontier Flatpoint (Conical) for a 109 pf in my 625/8.light but verrrryyyyyy slow Aaron T
  13. Aaron Do not dry fire the C&S pin without snap caps. Those instructions are on the package. The factory pins forward travel is stopped by the cross pin that retains the firing pin. The C&S pins forward travel is not limited by the retaining pin. Without snap caps the C&S pin will only stop it's forward movement when it collapses the firing pin spring and then slams into the back of the firing pin bushing. You will eventually cause damage to the pin, spring or will beat the pin bushing loose from the recoil shield. With snap caps or normal firing they are fine. The older pins were bad but I have found no fault with the new C&S pins other than not being able to dry fire them without snap caps. Thanks for the heads up. I'll put the standard one back in until I can source an alternative.
  14. I think the best answer is "maybe". Measure the firing pin in the gun. The "good" S&W pins are .495". The "short" ones are .485". If you have a .495" pin a longer one will probably make no difference. FWIW I added a S&W firng pin to an order to see what I'd rcv. I got a "good" .495 pin. Maybe they've seen the light and gone back to them? My firing pin is an "evil" .486 Anything to watch with the longer S&C pins? Thanks Aaron T
  15. Thanks guys Is it OK to dryfire the C&S extended firing pin? Aaron T
  16. Hi Guys This is my first post on the revolver forum, I searched but didnt find what I am looking for. The question is this would installing a cylinder and slide extended firing pin in my 625/8 help me in achieving a lighter trigger pull. To date my 625 has a Miculek main and rebound spring an the hammer has been bobbed, I have polished all the contact and bearing surfaces (not removed metal just polished) an I am wondering what more I can do. I am using Federal primers and loading my own load of RP Brass, 230gr RN Frontier copperwashed projectile & 5.3gr VV N320 Any help would be appreciated Aaron T New Zealand
  17. I had this exact problem. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of each clip and tied it onto the belt with a cable tie, no movement. I have now moved onto the Speed E rack from the Aysens which is working very well. Also trying the Moonclip holder from the revolver supply company, uses up less beltspace but holds everything a bit lower on the body. Cheers Aaron
  18. In shooting minor you are rewarded for shooting well, shooting major you are rewarded for shooting poorly
  19. I shot an old para 18/9 at a level 2 match here a few weeks ago and placed 3rd. But man did I have a great time. I'm went with the attitude of "I'm not getting paid so I better enjoy myself" Ammo was cheap and I didn't even look for a single empty case! Paradise. Lesson learned 1 Get the points 2 Dont try to run the mags dry using the last round 3 Use the extra rounds as backups on steel or targets 4 Improved flexibility about where you will do your reloads 5 Get the points My 2c
  20. Hi Guys Thanks for your input. Seems like I am on the right track. Make it known that help is available, make it easy for them to approach you but if they dont, leave them to it. As long as they are shooting badly but safely Cheers Aaron T
  21. Hi All Been watching for awhile but this is my first post. Hopefully this is the correct place. When new members join our club (IPSC) we leave them alone to just enjoy shooting the sport for a while, then start offering them advise on how they might improve their shooting. This might be about actual marksmanship, rules or etiquet or reloading. The problem is that I see people come along and constantly come amongst the bottom 25% of the club shoots. Their guns dont work, their gear is hindering them and the barn door is completley safe When I was in that position I would want advise/mentoring. Some are greatfull for advise its the other (majority) that dont listen, continue to do badly and be obviously upset about doing badly. Or they say "AT you've been shooting for 30 years what bullet load/combination should I use in my XYZ gun" the ABC load I reply, "Oh but I read a book that said DEF load was the best" or on the IPSC forum "Someone" said this was better" Do you walk away and leave them to continue to make bad decisions and spend $$ unwisely? quietly watching them wander off in strange directions. Or they want to debate IPSC rules based on being in the sport for 6 weeks & debate a rue that dosent exist I think you get the drift. Previously I would have said well thats their problem, but as I am now one of the "Old fat guys" help or stay out? Any advise greatly appreciated. Aaron T
