  1. Also, it's funny hearing you talk about founding principles and slippery slope when you're one of the more outspoken PCC supporters.

I don't see how one has anything to do with the other. PCCs are commonly used in defensive and offensive applications in the real world, often as more effective substitutes for handguns. PCCs would shoot at the same targets (diligentia), would hit with the same power (vis), and would be timed (celeritas).

PCC will gravitate USPSA towards longer avg target distance than the current handgun stages. Effectively same result as reducing target size.

BTW airsoft is cool I won't mind creating an airsoft division in USPSA. Fun for everyone!

  2. Installed the barrel, but my current load will not seat. MG 124 jhp, OAL 1.13 (avg) with 4.7 WST. Placing a bullet in a spent shell multiple times and seating it reruns an oal of 1.085. Not sure how safe or how to go about rebuilding a load for that oal.?

The barrel did shoot @ 1 inch at 23 yards braced on my knees compared to 2 inch with the factory barrel. That was using a friends 115 RN loads witch seat fine with oal of 1.128

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I have had a gunsmith fitted BarSto barrel doing the same, though the APEX SDI is perfectly fine with 1.135'' OAL flat points bullets. The BarSto wouldn't pass plunk test unless I load to <1.1'' OAL. One thing you can try is to use RN bullets. They offer shorter ogive than flat point for the same OAL and likely won't hit the lands early. Another options is to ream the chamber - I did that to the BarSto, but my perception is that the accuracy degraded slightly after the reaming, although the smith said it should not affect accuracy at all.

  3. I load 147gr Bayou FP to 1.135'' and had 0 issues with the APEX barrel.

Some updates on mine as it now has close to 6000 round count. I can see the barrel has been marked at various contact spots with the slide. It also no longer requires a light push to go into battery when I chamber & gently release the slide. Appears the initial tight lockup is gradually wearing away. However, I have not seen any accuracy degradation, yet.

  4. I will deny it if anyone repeats this. I love Glocks, I have owned 10 of them, and carried it for over 3.5 years. During the first Obama scare I sold an XDM for a M&P 9mm it sat in the box for years over 5, then during the second scare a bought a 9mm pro. I fell out of love with it and sold it. I kept hearing about the apex trigger, but never bit. That was until a year ago I bought their flat trigger for the now dusty 9mm still in the box. The apex change that gun to my M&P. It has the cleanest break of any of my guns to including my 2011. It is far superior to my Glocks( the Zev trigger is crap compared to the APEX) I will eventually put the apex in my Glock 17, but honestly I am looking for another 9mm Pro.

Exactly why I have 3 MP Pro 5''. All with APEX CAEK. FSS is slightly better (I used it to get my ESP MA) with shorter pre-travel, but I have switched back to CAEK since then, because FSS is not Prod/SSP legal. Over the past year I have tried many "amazing" triggers, including Zev glocks, StockII/III and CZs. The only one that I feel superior to the APEX CAEK is the Mink custom shadow's SA.

  5. Who would be the audience (besides maybe 30% of the USPSA members and potentially some IDPA members, totaling less than 10k) when some entrepreneurs "create an action shooting event be extreme and TV ready"?

imho there won't be an audience for it, but at least uspsa won't be screwed up in the process of discovering that.

Exactly. It's a catch 22 - if you want to cater the audience who will make the sports a bit more "for profit" you will change your sport; but you don't know until you change your sport. I guess only if some uber rich comes along and do the above experiments knowing he/she will lose money, without touching how the sport works.

  6. Like the trigger guard. Drilled and tapped mag release is pretty out there for a prod gun.

Wish they'd fix some old design issues like how the grip panels are retained by just 1 screw.

Love the proper checkering and new serrations too. The goofy mismatched front and rear serrations never did excite me.

Hard to tell but it looks like it may be a tad longer too. Ie aus spec barrels may now be the norm. Nice to have a few mm extra barrel and extra sight radius. It's not a big difference but every bit helps. :)

Thank god I'm not the only person who thinks retaining the grip panels with a single screw is dumb. It lets the grips rock even with the best fitted grips.

The big deal the tanfog had over the shadow is the better frame (checkering, square trigger guard etc) and generally better ergos. It seems most of the updates on shadow2 address those issues. so now you basically will be getting a tanfoglo like frame ergo but with the renowned CZ trigger. It should sell very well.

That's clearly very subjective. I've had my hands on enough Stock IIs that there is no way I'd switch to them from my Shadows. I do like the checkering, but that's about it. Otherwise it doesn't feel nearly as good in my hands, and nobody can get the trigger to be nearly as good....not bad, but not as good. Granted, if there was no Shadow I'd be happy with a Stock II, but I don't find them to be superior in any way. I'm sure for other folks they feel better in hand, and that's why it's nice to have options.

Ergonomics aside, I've seen that the Tanfos usually need to be cleaned every 3-400 rounds or they start to malfunction, and then you have to play games with firing pins and primers to keep things reliable if you'd done much trigger work on them. A buddy of mine has done triggers for Ben and JJ, as well as his own guns, and the setup he uses involves a dry fire firing pin, practice ammo firing pin, and then a match firing pin (which needs Fed SP primers). This is also someone who's friends with Eric G, so he's getting the best info available...he said he spent the better part of a couple of months working on his Stock IIs every day to get the triggers as good as they are (and they're pretty good). After all of that, my Shadows (one of which I bought from this same guy when he got his Stock IIs) have better triggers, and have zero issues with reliability even after 1K+ rounds without cleaning, and require no thought about firing pins, primers, etc.

I thought someone said his shadow can last 5000 rounds without cleaning and no malfunctions.

  7. How about BB guns(whoops, sorry, I meant air powered weapons, don't want to offend anyone :goof: ) Just think, very little noise, we could run matches in our back yards (or garage), no dangerous gunpowder or primers to deal with, and no compensators either. It's still a test of skill without all the noise, danger, and local officials trying to shut us down. What's wrong with this idea? While we're trying to please everyone, let's include everyone. After this, then we have to address "Nerf" guns.

    I approve nerf guns

  8. Have you ever clicked on espn and seen trap, skeet, camp perry, etc. Its not going to happen,

We barely get any Olympic coverage, if at all, including biathlon.

    ESPN is anti gun.

I don't understand this push to make it more palatable to the PC, anti-gunners. If they change to the turtle/amoeba targets I will renounce my membership in USPSA/Steel Challenge, never attend another USPSA/Steel Challenge match again and actively work to create/promote an alternative. It's not our targets they have the real problem with, IT'S THE GUNS. ESPN will never cover it. THEY HATE US BECAUSE OF THE GUNS.

  9. HQ could help mitigating the overcrowding in certain local areas by getting more affiliations going. Maybe provide special incentives to attract clubs holding other shooting sport matches?

For example, in DFW area there are 3 clubs holding once-a-month USPSA matches, while there are 5 or 6 clubs holding IDPA weekly (some clubs hold up to 3 IDPA matches per week) matches. Can HQ figure out how to attract those clubs to also hold USPSA matches?

  10. It's interesting because locally I see IDPA matches are attracting 5-10 new shooters every time, while USPSA matches have 1-3 new shooters most of the time. It can be just a local thing, but still seems to be in contradiction with the deterrent theory. Maybe by allowing a max of 1 free match, people actually become more interested and are willing to come out and try it?

  11. I disagree that cannibalization does not apply to USPSA, but I do agree that it's too early to quantitatively define the cannibalization effect.

I was hoping to see 10+ new PCC shooters showing up but I was disappointed to see only 2. I think L10 attracted more than 2 new shooters the first week it was included in the club match. If the 4 existing members keep shooting multiple guns, it undoubtedly will increase the match overhead/time. If some or all of them switched to PCC permanently, it dilutes existing divisions twice faster than it attracts new shooters.

For clubs that are in need of more shooters, PCC may help. For clubs that run 8-hour matches because the matches are usually overcrowded, PCC will make it worse.

  12. In marketing strategy, cannibalization refers to a reduction in sales volume, sales revenue, or market share of one product as a result of the introduction of a new product by the same producer.

Cannibalization happens when you have existing paying customers stop buying one of your existing products and started buying one of your new products.

So yes there is cannibalization by introducing PCC.

    Prod/Open/Limited - existing product

    PCC - new product

Don't get confused by people switching among existing divisions - that is not cannibalization by definition.

I am sure when Prod or Limited were originally introduced, many Open shooters jumped ship too. Yes that's considered cannibalization too. However, the key here is how much the cannibalization compares to the new customers it attracts.

In this particular match I quoted, 4 cannibalization occurred and 2 new customers attracted.

Splitting divisions into AM/PM ain't a half bad idea. Does your club not use the same set up for different divisions or am I reading that wrong?

I was not clear. Yes we do use the same setup for different divisions. I meant splitting matches to AM/PM and reuse the same setup.
