  1. The only one FTE I had so far is on my Limited Pro with an S&B brass. The empty case sits in the chamber loosely and I just poke it out easily with finger nail. It looked like the brass ejection ring is all smoothed out and won't latch on the extractor. I run Win, RP and FC brass 99.99% of the times and had 0 problems. This happened on the only range trip where I brought about 50 or so S&B headstamps, and 1 out of that 50 gave me problem.

I'd say try using only Win/RP/FC headstamp and see if the problem goes away.

Just had a double feed on my Lim Pro in a match last night. It was RP brass. So looks like it's not related to brass. Should I replace the extractor and spring? What kind of "reshaping" is needed on the extractor?

  2. I tell new guys I meet at matches and students I teach that they shouldn't give the RO even a hint that they were close to the 180. If you are working with a self imposed 160 line, it makes it a lot harder for an RO to make a bad call. Professional refs and umpires make game changing bad calls, volunteer ROs are subject to the same mistakes, so I try to make their jobs easier if I can.

    I fully appreciate this suggestion.

When I dry fired at home simulating what the GM did, I asked my wife to stand by my 180 and ensure I am not even close to that. It's more like 120. It's possible in live I did more than 120, but no where close to 160... I guess the safest way to play is do <100 degrees, even that means you need to sacrifice a few seconds on the timer.

  3. The RO called "stop" after I moved like 10 yards away from the position he said I broke 180. Sigh. I wish I could stop right there. Next time I will remember this trick. Thanks for sharing.

  4. RM did not allow the viewing of camera footage. Did not allow arbitration request either, saying it's safety violation.

I agree, it's pretty much my words against RO's, because no other evidence nor witness are allowed to participate in any appeal process.

The camera footage is in another shooter's camera, some kind of GoPro on a tripod. Unfortunately I left without requesting it, since RM said they won't look at it anyways.

I really hope USPSA can make this better, adding some checks and balances when dealing with DQ. All DQs I have seen are all clear cut very obvious. My squad had 1 DQ on an earlier stage, and I think most squad mates/bystanders say that one. Mine? Not so. Including the 2nd RO who is running the timer - I guess he was as surprised as I was when "stop" was called.

Imagine a squad of A/M/GM shooters already had 1 DQ earlier. Imagine I have dry fired that exact movement 100 times the previous day after watching another GM did it (no DQ). Also imagine I have also gone the extra mile to slow down to my 50% normal speed when I did that movement. Sigh.

I guess when the DQ train decides to hit you, there is no escape.

  5. Has anyone been DQed for things they did not do, like breaking 180 when you know you did not (and captured on camera, and witnessed by squad mates, and even by another RO etc.)?

Why is USPSA giving a single RO so much power to send someone home, wasting the shooters few hundred dollars plus a couple days of time, without any appealing process?

Shouldn't the DQs be agreed by both ROs (not just one single RO) on the stage, and allow shooters to appeal with camera footage, maybe not allow shooter continue for the match, but provide a partial refund if the DQ is not justified?

The subjectivity, resulting from the lack of checks and balances, is astounding.

  6. let alone that even a base Shadow is still a better gun than the Stock line.... and ignoring the fact that the design team started working on this long before the Stock III came out as well.

As a previous shadow owner and now an owner of a S2X, could you please give me your insight into how you find the shadow better.

    Genuinely curious. Thank you.

    Because sponsorship? :goof:

  7. Originally, I thought it was sluggish slide movement. However, recently while doing some weak hand shooting, I noticed it was really the feeding that was delayed/slowed. Sometimes, especially with weak hand not griping as hard, the slide would take a sec or more to fully go back into battery. When that happens, there is a clear delay right before the next round gets into the chamber, as if something is blocking it, then it would overcome the blockage and feed.

What might be the cause? I have polished pretty much everything except the extractor. Could that be the culprit? If the extractor needs polishing, where should I polish it? Maybe it's due to the magazine? This is happening with both like new K9 and MecGar mags though.

Just to add that I have tried 8#, 9# and 10# wolff recoil springs with the same result.

  8. green loctite

Green is retaining compound. Not half as strong as red. Unless you meant to put green loctite where panels touch the frame...That may work.

From my personal experience using green on front sights, they don't glue well. I had both Dawson front sights loose on my 2 tanfos already where I have applied green loctite as directed.

  9. On my Sig P238 and Caspian .45 I experienced the same problem. I found a very easy solution online and I hope it will work for you. I purchased Danco 96774 #60 O-Rings (10-Pack) at Amazon and these have kept my grips tight through thousands of rounds(.45) and hundreds through my .380. Hope this helps.

Excellent! Where should I place these orings exactly? I suppose around the screw hole between the grip and the frame? Would that raise the panels up too much to cause gaps where the grip edges touch the frame? Thanks.

  10. Just to report back: both panels are loose again after 2k rounds or so... I followed all steps, and even used brand new Xtreme screws. This may be a design or manufacturing defect with these Xtreme grips. I guess I will just have to red loctite them up every 2k rounds.

  11. Just to follow up:

I shot another 600 rounds since last time. 100% ignition. My ammo were all loaded with identical components, though I loaded them on different days. The only difference I made was to clean the gun, and lube the gun with slip2000 instead of slide glide lite after the last time.

I started to think that it may be the combination of grease + gravel ground at my range that possibly traps dust/small gravels in the FP/FPB channel.

A couple weeks ago, I did have 1 incident where a dropped mag carried some small pieces of gravels into the gun, and they landed right under the trigger bar plunger, causing the plunger not be able to drop all the way, thus dead trigger. If your range has gravel ground, watch out where you grease your gun. And make sure no gravels are inside the mag, especially when you drop one that is not fully empty.

  12. Yeah, the strange part I noticed is that my Limited Pro shoots the same pencil 2-3 inches lower on DA than the Stock 2, yet the Limited Pro has only 1000 rounds on it and has been 100% ignition with WSP primers. And both guns have identical internals (except long slide recoil spring on Limited Pro)

  13. If there is no Xtreme version of Limited Pro produced with the Xtreme DA trigger, I don't know how using a part from a non SSP legal gun, e.g. Xtreme Stock 2/3, can still make your Limited Pro SSP legal. Xtreme Stock 2/3 are USPSA Production legal, but they are IDPA SSP illegal.

Are there any polymer version Witness guns that have theXtreme trigger on? That would be your best bet.

Personally I don't feel the Xtreme trigger provides enough benefits to justify its $90 price tag, but this is personal preference.

  14. Mine just became loose as well. 3800 rounds. I could wiggle the front sight back and forth a little bit.

When I put it on, I did follow all Dawson instructions of using blue loctite on the thread, and green loctite (retaining compound) between the bottom of the sight and the frame.

  15. In fact I did mark the pencil test height baseline. Although I could not find the original pencil that I used to do the baseline, I could tell that DA height has decreased a bit, not much, maybe 2-3 inches. SA height has not change from what I can tell.

Primer seating is a bit below flush as all the rest I loaded. I carefully checked for marks on the FPB and the FP, but could not see any sign of forceful contact between those two.

Right now, I am heavily leaning towards the conclusion that Xtreme hammer spring (light) has a very short lifetime of about 4000 live rounds and 30 days of heavy dry fire.

  16. My Stock 2 has been running 100% reliably until the last range trip where I had 2 light strikes out of 300 rounds. I use 100% Winchester small pistol primers.

The gun has about 3800 rounds on it and a month of daily dry-fire. I do not cut coils on any of the springs. I did the polishing and used mostly Xtreme parts:

    - Xtreme light hammer spring

    - Xtreme light striker spring

    - Xtreme Titan hammer

    - Xtreme firing pin

    - Xtreme firing pin block and spring

    etc.

Could it be the Xtreme light hammer and striker springs can last only this long? What's your experience with them? As I am new to the Tanfo platform, I wouldn't mind learning that these Xtreme springs have short life time, like every 3000 rounds or so. Just need to know and prepare.

Or maybe it's the faulty primers? I have not had any faulty WSP primers ever... But these 2 light strikes, I could not fire them with my carry gun either. So that makes me wonder.

  17. I have tried pretty much all options:

    - Skateboard mob grip tape

    - Dawson grip tape

    - 3M safety walk tape

    - Talon grip tape

What I use 100% now is Talon grip tape. They are more expensive, $9.99 for 5''x7'', but they have just the right thickness and grit.

Dawson has good grit but way too thick. Mob grip tape for skateboard and 3M safety walk tape are not for hands, and you can feel they are not only too thick but also too coarse.
