  1. Just got back from the TarHeel rules page, and my interpretation is subject to updates.

    Factory division is/was TacIron

    extended sights not banned

8 round limit in shotgun tube

    no basepads on pistol

    30 round rifle mags only

enlarged shotgun ports to not actually change shotgun configuration

    Heavy sport is/was HML

pistol 45, 171mm mag limit, no limit on capacity

    no rifle mag limit

8 round limit in shotgun tube

The rules are specific to regional 3gun nation matches which are televised - I'm thinking the rules are tweeked so people will see normal guns in use instead of "race guns only"?

We don't plan on making any regional matches, since these are labeled for regional, is there a normal rule set out there?

  2. Tube as long as you want, only limit number of rounds at a time.

Just remember some matches require that capacity does not exceed division limit, i.e., the tube is not capable of holding more than division limit. In this case, a plug is ok.

And, do not wait. Start now.

I'm thinking the only matches that still have the 8 in the tube limit are matches run by Andy Horner? The Blue Ridge in Kentucky and Task Force Dagger in Florida. The other 62 matches are 9 at start and as many as you can shove in your gun after the beep?

  3. If the trigger return is still a problem, radius and polish the upper front corner on the rebound slide where it resets the hammer. Radius and polish the mating part on the hammer. This can help the reset quite a bit in some cases.

    +1

and check if you have instaled blue or red cylinder stop spring

rebound is radiused and polished and totally smooth in operation. It's the cylinder lock reset - which is also polished. I've never heard of blue and red stop springs. Where would I see a listing for these critters?

  4. On a whim I traded hammers/triggers back and forth among my 625 PC and 627 PC with no issues, other than changing the hand, traded the trigger with a M29 and 625 PC.

But your first premise I don't buy. My trigger on the PC 627, after I smoothed and lightened it out, is far superior to either my M29 or my PC 625. But I have all of them worked to a smooth return.

Are you talking of that pin on the Hand? Or the Trigger Lock?

Where the trigger resets the cylinder lock. It's full contact to unlock, but a small tit/pin that drags back up to reset the cyclinder lock. It's a very small contact point - I've polished both surfaces, the pin and the lock, to basically chrome, and lubed with synthetic gun oil, Mobil 1, and finally grease. It's not enough contact surface. You're info on changing hammers and triggers is enough for me to gamble $50 on ending this quest.

  5. I've been working on my wife's 627 for a couple months now, and she's very happy with it - had a great time at the nats this past weekend. The pull is light and smooth.

Howsomever, the trigger return is not smooth. One of the issues was the hand dragging back down on the bottom of the window. I smoothed and polished the back of the hand and the underside of the hand "finger". After I did that the roughness was about half what it was. It seems that the "new?" trigger (my experience is a 19, 610, and 617) with the tit on the cylinder lock is not able to be as smooth in action as the "old?" style plain blade type triggers?

I know this is a bit out there, but I really don't like the rough return. I've looked at parts a bit, and my question finally becomes, will an older "N" frame trigger fit in a new 627. I'll probably be the $50 guinea pig on this, but any info would be helpful.

I finally put a dab of synthetic wheel bearing grease on the cylinder lock where contact is made, and that helped it enough to know that it is the problem.

I'm thinking that since there is no need for single action, fitting a new trigger would only require polishing contact points.

    anybody?

  6. Mostly, on 1911's, the grip safety only blocks the trigger. The sear is free to drop the hammer. The manual safety locks the sear, which locks the hammer. Basically a totally safe firearm unless a round cooks off.

I'm not seeing anyone reference the firing pin block. There are many 1911's out there with a firing pin block. That pin block only unlocks the firing pin when the trigger is pulled. The pin block system is actually better than the manual safety? At the least it's equal to the glocks and mp's?

And on a few Kimbers, I've seen the grip safety release the firing pin block.

So I'm thinking at tech inspection before the match starts, you have inspection teams in place to check if the firing pin block is functional. If it is, they wire an inspection tag on the trigger guard so the RO will know it's alright to just throw the sonofabitch in a bucket and move on.........

  7. Ken, I think you're making this far more difficult than necessary.

Step 1. Sign up for match of shooter's choice

Step 2. Read the rules for that match.

Step 3. Go shoot match in accordance with rules.

Whether it's gear, scoring, targets, or divisions, the game of 3 gun is about adapting. Sometimes this is in planning for a match, at other times it's on the clock, but I feel it's an important and enjoyable part of our game. If a shooter finds this need to adapt too cumbersome or difficult, they certainly have the option of only shooting the matches that use their preferred set of rules.

You're saying that figuring out what the rules are is the same as figuring out how to shoot a stage, and that is what makes 3gun "enjoyable"? Seriously?

  8. I can't keep from wondering why would you put a smaller penalty on a target at face to face distance, that would be imparative to hit, and a total screw up to miss, and a bigger (double) penalty that is way over there that is not that important to take out right now? I know this ain't training, but it don't make sense that it is ok to miss the face to face shot, but worse to miss the long shot. Am I missing something?

And what is with all this desire to punish people. You may need some counseling. Why isn't the focus on reward? If a 325 yard shot is a 20 second bonus, everyone is going to lay into it and do their absolute best to hit it. Ain't nobody gonna skip it.

4 moa targets? I haven't seen a 4moa 300 yard target in the last 15 years. I see this "4 moa" all the time, but at the matches it's a 10" mgm flasher from 300 out to 400 yards.

less talk, more do, I bump to 3 cents
