  1.  Ripped my thumb nail back a few too many times and always bend mine way up like the ape hanger infinity one above.

I called to get one from infinity like the one above a week or so ago but the sticker shock price tag kept me from going through with it. 80$ for a slide racker....

LED brightness is a function of current rather than voltage. In old red dots current is limited by a resistor connected in series. Doubling the voltage will double the current. Actually more than double, because LED is nonlinear and forward voltage drop on it remains about the same throughout its operating range. So you will see a brighter dot, but probably also reduce its lifespan. LEDs are not as picky as incandescent bulbs, but do burn out faster when too much current is applied.

In modern red dots there's a circuit that scans the buttons, reads ambient light sensor, checks movement sensor, monitors voltage and does all kinds of other things. To reduce losses it probably turns the LED on and off quickly, too fast for the eye to see. Judging by power consumption it's probably CMOS so chances are it's not that sensitive to supply voltage and can survive. Besides it likely sits behind some kind of voltage stabilizer. But if it's doing its job of keeping the brightness constant regardless of battery level, you should not see much difference.

Well I’ll say this. A romeo3 is brighter with two 2016’s. I’ll take a pic to see if it shows up on my phone. I’ve never replaced a battery because it dimmed out so I can’t comment on whether it maintains brightness toward the end of the battery life.

  3. I have 3 of these dots. I'll be the guinea pig without a brain. Worst case I burn one out.

The Brightness increase in one I tested was probably more like 10-15% but that was indoors so it may have been exaggerated. Ill test it outside in the sunlight to see if it really makes a difference. One of my R3's seemed brighter than the other two to start...

  4. There’s a lot of speculation in this post but it intrigued me enough to buy some eBay 2016 batteries and give it a  whirl. It made a huge brightness improvement for me.

Nerds, do you really think this will fry my dot? The improvement in brightness I think would make a big difference on a  Bright sunny day shooting steel. Enough so that I may just take my chances at frying this thing. At least in low light conditions it seems much brighter.  Like glaringly bright.

( I say huge difference but in reality it’s like %15-%20 brighter. )

Shmella.  Where did you fine Major pistol for $15.00. a lb.  Power valley, Grafs  I payed  $19.95  for 1lb. With Haz mat and shipping come out to $49.00 and change.

Powder valley had a promo going on. Every 4 lbs of shooters world and you got one on free. They also had free hazmat or free shipping at the same time. Don’t remember which it was but I ended up getting 10 one pounders. And 2 of them were free. I bought some other powders and a bunch of primers that at the time also had a mail in rebate going on. Not counting the mail in rebate I paid under 16$ a lb

SInce this post came out originally I have switched departments and found myself having to go back to Glocks for work. Being a guy who doesn’t like switching platforms between work and sport, I bought a Gen 5 Glock 34 MOS to shoot in USPSA. I love my P320s, but I have to tell you guys, I shoot the Gen 5 34 better. I made GM in Production with a Gen 3 34, and shooting the Gen 5 is like coming back home, but better. I think Glock definitely did some things right with the Gen 5. All that said though, I still dig my Sigs, and wouldn’t hesitate recommending them to someone looking for a pistol.....but dang are those Gen 5s good.

What’s so good about the gen 5? I haven’t shot a Glock in a while but I feel like a glocks a Glock

I have emailed holosun asking for them to create a mini profile 510c without the solar panel. They said they added it to their list of potential products.

s#!t I’ll have to email them too. That would be the perfect dot. In theory it should keep the price even lower than it already is ! These 500-600$ red dots are ridiculous. If a mini 510 was an option I’d be in for 4 or 5.

  8. I like the 510. I just wish it didn’t have the solar panel and was shorter/lighter. The Romeo xl looks like it check that box. Almost same size window. Shorter and lighter. Hopefully these hold up , I’d make the switch from a 510 if so. The circle ⭕️ Is not a viable dot option in my opinion and have only ever run the dot by itself.

    numbers,,,

       Romeo3XL = 32.01w x 23.89 h x 33.94 diag., weighs 1.5 oz.

     Holosun 510C = 32.81 w x 26.21 h x 36.71 diag., weighs 3.8 oz.

the savings will be in the weight and hopefully it lives,,, modifing the Holosun mount and will run it Monday to see how it does,,,

worst case it goes on the Sig X5 with the legion grip for CO. I've been running a Vortex Viper with no problems so far,,,

What do you not like about it?

  10. I don’t care what ppl say about Comps not being effective at minor. I know for me, shooting falling steel with an open 2011 is night and day different than a non comped gun even shooting sub minor. It’s just easier with any form of comp

  11. Pretty much anything except a gogun *thumb rest [generic]*. The guy who trademarked the name is an abomination to shooting sports and an akai or anyone else’s is a much better design anyway.

Update. Problems solved. Had Pedro from Ortiz Custom guns go through my open guns. Both were in need of some slide & barrel lapping to smooth them out. Also lowered the main spring weight as it was really heavy. Now both my open guns run super slick and eject brass no issue!

kind of sounds like the frame was squeezed by the steel grip bowing the rails out a little and loosening the slide to frame fit allowed it to move more freely. Now when you put the plastic grip back on is the slide to frame more loose than before ?
