  1. So with ammo costs getting wild I can across a steal of a deal of .45 ACP at .20 a shot and I bought a fair amount. My 1911 hasn't been shot since I got a stage DQ when I had a sear slip mid reload. I was transitioning for one target to another and doing a reload. RO physically saw my finger out of the trigger guard (I usually ride it high where it is pretty much on the slide) and when I slammed my magazine home the sear slipped and the hammer fell. The gun went off into a berm so it wasn't crazy but very embarassing.  Fortunately a friend had the exact same gun (just bone stock) and I was allowed to shoot the rest of the match with his gun (this happened on the first stage of the day!). When I got home I threw the gun in the safe and started shooting Production and slowly ordered replacement parts. So far I have a Stan Chen magwell and EGW Koenig Ultimate Trigger kit and will be having it installed by someone more competent than myself LOL.

The point is I was shooting Limited 10 just because at the time with Wilson 10 rounders because that was what I was carrying through the Police Academy. I now want to use the gun in Single Stack Major and I know that has a 8 round capacity and I was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on magazines. I am thinking Wilson 47Ds but I am curious if there is some new hotness that is out that I should be aware about.

I have use the cheap Dawson Precision base pads for production.  I believe I have the +300 option.
    https://dawsonprecision.com/extended-baseplates-for-glock-by-dawson-precision/

I have also seen people in our local matches running the smaller (+2/3) Taran Tactical ones.

With my +300 Dawson ones, I still make the box according to my measurements, even with suppressor height sights.

I am thinking about going with Taran's so that if I shoot a class that isn't USPSA oriented I have 21 rounds in the magazine. Might as well give the space some purpose. I just hope it doesn't keep the same issue because it is lighter due to it being hollowed out to accommodate the additional capacity.

  3. So as everyone comes to know Glock magazines are extremely light and sometimes don't drop free as quickly as we would like when empty. What is everyone running as production legal base pads? I am thinking about some Taran ones but they look pretty big on the bottom. I don't own a magazine gauge so I am not sure how much space I have to play with from the OEM magazine.

My issue was grip.  I tend to grip fairly high with my support hand.  I was actually bumping the slide stop and causing this exact thing to happen.

So it might have partially been my grip. I may have always been pushing up on it and the spring just got too week to resist my grip. I say this because my grip has relatively not changed but this only recently started happening.

In a nut shell I stole a new standard slide stop from a spare Glock 17 I had lying around and now the issue is gone.

Glock has done runs of blue label 24s. You can purchase blue label Glocks if you become a GSSF member. They give you 1 certificate per year to purchase a blue label (need to sign up for 2 year or more membership to get first cert sent to you right away). If you've got a blue label 24 locally I'd have them put it on hold for you and then sign up for GSSF so you can buy it. Who knows when Glock will do another run of 24s.

I wouldn't bother with aftermarket barrel. OEM one works fine for me.

Maybe it is a blue label gun that they have because they are a blue label dealer. I used my 1 certificate already lol.

If I buy a complete gun I will run an OEM barrel but if I get the Spinta slide I will just get a KKM barrel.

That's great and that tells you that you're more than ready for the next class up. You will make that C class and as soon as you do, you will set your eyes on B. It's always like that with people who are competitive and decide to work on goals - you look at the steps ahead of you and climb them one at a time.

I am glad you had a positive experience and that you picked a good and measurable goal. Now you know how to look at your performance - match is to compare against local competition, classifiers to get an idea of your overall skill level nationally. Before you know it, you'll start looking at the top guys at your local matches and trying to figure out how to shave the time and start matching theirs. That's the idea, when you measure progress with classes, but you compete against the actual people in the match...

Sometimes I think how much further I would be if I took USPSA more seriously when I first started shooting matches 5 years ago instead of just the last year or so. I am starting to dry fire on my off days and I have my sights set on getting better.

That's a blunder, I would even call it incompetence. Calling a hit without steel falling is not allowed at any level match. Oh, well, you also got to learn what happens when match officials mess up a stage...

Not going to lie I was a little upsetti spagetti because I did pretty well on that stage but again it doesn't eat me up. Just got to focus on the next state match next month.

No idea, I’ve never seen a blue label 24.  I rarely see any 24.

i have a KKM in mine and am happy with it.  I don’t think it’s any more accurate than OEM, but the chamber is tighter than OEM and .40 in Glock OEM big-chamber barrels (especially gen 3 and earlier) seems to be problematic, so I got the KKM.  It was a drop-in, but didn’t fit, which I decided was a blessing in disguise.  A local guy fitted it (it didn’t take much) and it’s a shooter.

I am thinking of sending the slide to MAC Defense to get cut so he can probably fit the slide. If not I have a buddy that is coming out to me that is a gunsmith that would be able to do that.

I’ve never heard of the company and don’t know of anybody else making 24 slides, but the low price could mean they can’t give it away and don’t plan to make any more due to .40’s declining popularity.

i guess the alternative is to just buy a 24.  There was one available locally for ~$600 recently, so they are still out there.

That is true. I guess $169 isn't that bad of a price to pay to find out. I am putting a KKM barrel in it so I guess that can transfer over to an OEM slide if this turns into a dumpster fire.

There is a shop here in Georgia that has some for sale but for some reason the tag says LEO only and it is dirt cheap. Did Glock put 24 out for blue label or something?

  9. 13 hours ago, deerslayer said:

Those slides are on sale for $169, worth a try IMO.  Good luck finding a loose OEM slide.

It has been a nightmare. I have a friend that has one loose that doesn't shoot that much but doesn't want to let it go. I am just cautious because $169 seems VERY cheap in the grand scheme of things but then again 24 slides aren't very commonly known and I think USPSA is one of the only things keeping .40 S&W alive.

I personally have not used their slides but I recently returned my backup G24 back to stock dress, I have a SJC frame weight and couple of compatible holsters if thats something of interest for you.

I run a KKM barrel and have been very happy with it the past few seasons.

    --BF

I was thinking about getting a DC Precision frame weight but I may go SJC to show a local guy some support (the shop is in GA where I am)

I have KKM barrels in other guns and have run them in the past and are my go to barrel choice.

It didn't. Win the C class as a D shooter and get even more bragging rights...

In reality, your most likely concern after the match will be that you tried too hard and ended up performing below your level, not that you went as a D. If you think you have the skill to win the C class and you made it your goal (it's a nice and measurable goal), make sure you perform at your peak level and not "give up" the victory to someone else because you were trying to go faster than you could. If you shot well and didn't end up on top of C, that's good too - it's your homework for the next match.

So I thought I would follow up this thread with how I did. I set my "high" goal to win C Class as a D classified shooter for Production. My "low" goal was to beat at least 1 C class shooter as a D class shooter. Among the 6 C class shooters I placed right in the middle beating 3. The match turned into kind of a mess and through another squads arbitration request one stage was thrown out that I did really well on. Apparently the CRO/RO decided to call hit if the shooter hit the steel in the calibration zone but didn't fall and count it as a hit and a bunch of shooters wanted a reshoot under that call. I am sure you have seen the memes if you follow any of the USPSA meme pages.

Anyways I got my mental game back on track and getting ready for the next state match next month. Kind of concerned about ammo prices but I still have to push forward.

Just wanted to say thank you to helping me getting my focus back on where it needs to be!

  11. So I am looking to finish my Glock 24 Limited Gun built off of a Gen 3 frame. So far I have a Glock full size Gen 3 frame stippled by Salient Arms, a Zev Full Fulcrum Trigger and an older Zev large brass magwell. I would like to find a OEM Glock 24 slide but the Spinta Precision 24 slide and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. Probably going to slap a KKM barrel in it. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Check out videos from "abyss1232" on Youtube for polishing and installing CGW parts.  His videos were really helpful when upgrading my CZs.

I will check them out. I had to leave my CZ guru behind back in California when I moved out of the state. I may end up just sending the gun to CGW and have him do it.

Unless you have a shadow already (no firing pin block) you won't be able to drop a shadow slide on without deleting the lifter in your sear cage. Also, it won't be production legal at that point (dumb, but that's the rules).

You can add a Cajun 10x bushing if you want the same potential accuracy upgrade as the accushadow.

I would just do sights, springs, and polish everything to start with.

See I was actually confused about that. So USPSA Production rule 21.1 state that all factory safety mechanisms must be intact but at the same time wasn't CZ Customs taking SP01and adding Accushadow slides to make the Accushadow? Is it even possible to tell?

I also saw that you can swap parts with any other gun on the Production list but I am assuming there is a clause that doesn't allow you to make your own Accushadow?

    Here’s something worth considering:

You’re focused on the negative. Stop that.

Go to the match and shoot it as best you can. There’s absolutely no reason you can’t pit yourself against the Cs and do your best to finish in the upper portion of that pack just because you have a D next to your name. Make this a positive; it’s a chance to prove the classification system wrong.

If you do, great. Great, you know the classification system was wrong. It’s motviation to go home and dryfire hard, and get your classification scores up.

If you don’t? Great. The classification system was right and you know that B wasn’t an accurate representation of your skill. It’s motivation to go home and dryfire and get your classifier scores up.

    ;)

(EDIT: How to shoot B class clasifiers consistently? Dryfire your draw and reload like crazy. You don’t have to shoot horribly fast to land a C or B classifier if your draw and load are quick. You have to stop taking so long to accomplish those tasks, and it’ll leave you plenty of time to hang good hits on paper.)

I usually am a pretty positive person and it usually doesn't get to me but I hyped myself up and the effort I put in feels like it bit me in the ass.

Either way I know I will live to shoot another day and I will get better.

I am dry firing more and more as 9mm ammo has now exceeded $0.50 a shot which is outrageous

I guess I don't understand the question.  You are trying to figure out what classification to shoot at your Level II match?  You cannot dictate this.  Your classification is your classification based on your classifiers per USPSA rules.  You have to shoot against who shows up at the Level II match.  No one can control who does or does not show up to any given match.

I am relatively new to USPSA.  I did pay attention to my classification at the beginning,  I no longer care.  People tend to put a lot of emphasis on how to increase their classifications quickly.  I find what does this accomplish?  You are not necessarily the shooter your classification record dictates you are.  Your Match scores are the true indicator of what kind of shooter you truly are.  Look at your average match scores.  I honestly shoot matches because running around with a gun and shooting stuff is a kick in the pants.   I don't need any other incentive.

I have sensed stopped treating classifiers as classifiers.  I just treat them like any other stage like @PatJonesmentioned above.  Removing expectation from anything usually leads to better results.  Don't get me wrong.  I have goals to become a Master and possibly a GM one day, but I have to put in the work to get there.  If I do the work, those accolades will come naturally.  Everyone has to ask them self honestly, is my level of participation on par with the goals I am trying to achieve with anything in life.  Usually the answer is no.  Humans are capable of amazing things if they put in the work.  Humans are also amazing on being entitled and expect things to happen for them without putting in the work.

A funny story about classifiers.  I shoot PCC and Carry Optics.  I shoot PCC rather well in comparison to my Carry Optics gun.  After all it is shooting a rifle at a pistol match.  I quickly found myself as an A level shooter in PCC with little to no effort.  This was disastrous in regards to my Carry Optics classification, where USPSA rules push all of you other divisions to one classification lower than your highest classification in any division.  Meaning this made me a B class shooter in Carry optics when I was really a C level shooter.  It artificially raised my Carry Optics classification.  I realized that if I kept it up my PCC classification would completely outpace my true abilities as a Carry Optics shooter.  So I completely stopped caring about PCC classifiers.  I would just shoot them in a manner that would not hurt me in the match standings.  Once I stopped caring (removed expectations) the scores got even higher.  I started shooting Master and GM scores in PCC.  I have stopped shooting PCC so my Carry Optics abilities can keep up with my abilities with a PCC.  The reason I bring this up, is there is truth to how performance improves once you remove expectations.

I was just putting a lot of emphasis on Classifiers for a Level II match that is coming up to compare myself against other C class Production shooters. I mean at the end of the day I still can as a D class shooter. I think what got me was the fact that I got my hopes up about finally making C class when in fact the sheer number of classifiers I shot bumped a decent B class run out of the calculation which would have brought me up to C.

I have noticed that the classifiers I treat as a normal stage have gone better than ones that I stress too much about.

So in reference to my original question I couldn't find anything in the rules about this but I was told that at Level II+ matches if there are not more than 5 shooters in a class of a division there is no class winner for that. I wanted to try to get a Production C win. I am now the only D class Production shooter. There are 4 U shooters but I can not shoot unclassified since I am classified.

  16. 3 minutes ago, George16 said:

Wait, if you’re B class in Limited, then you should be a C in production since it’ll be one class lower than your highest classification.

I am C class in Limited.

I had a B class run on my classification record for Production but I shot a classifier match (6 classifiers) which bumped that run out of the running since it didn't change the overall classification.

  17. 5 minutes ago, rowdyb said:

In Steel Challenge you keep your best run ever. In USPSA you've learned it is a rolling window. By going to a classifier match you shot enough classifiers (4,5,6??) to push something good out the window. It is the risk you run getting that many scores put on at one time as it does almost a total reset.

If you changed divisions to one you're unclassified in you could shoot at U, matches rarely offer a U trophy.

You're classified D class, and that's ok. If your goal was winning D class for this match then you will. ;) But it is the type of goal that relies on other people to accomplish it. If you want to learn something from the match, instead set a goal that rests solely on what you do. For example "My goal at the next match is to shoot zero penalties." or "My goal at the next match is to go 1 for 1 on every piece of steel." or "My goal at the next match is to have only positive self talk." And so on.

Yea it was 6 classifiers and it pushed my B class run out and replaced it with two D's which really hit me. I usually don't let this bother me but it got me this time because I was looking forward to being a C class and completing against other C class Production shooters. Most matches I go to I am usually the only Production shooter so it is annoying because I have no one to compare with. My two friends that I shoot with a lot are Carry Optics so I wouldn't really call it a fair comparison.

I am a C class Limited but I am a low C so I am pretty sure I will get rocked on at Level II especially shooting Limited Minor.

  18. Just now, JohnStewart said:

Agreed, you are still “D” class so that’s how you have to register.

In the meantime, you can look into why the “B” class score was dropped. It may be the automated rule that throws out any score significantly higher than your current class. If that is the case you can request that the USPSA team reconsider and use that score. It won’t help you for this upcoming Level II match, and it will likely take a few weeks to take effect, but I’ve seen them accept the higher score every time this comes up.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So according to USPSA my B class run was given the E status code which says it is no longer in the most recent 8 and since I was already a D class it wasn't technically dropping my classification.

Just kind of sucks that I drove 4 hours round trip to the classifier match only for it to hurt me rather than help me.

  19. So I am thinking about running one of my SP01s for Production and was wondering what are the hot ticket modifications to get. This thing is bone stock and I think I want to make it into a SP01 Accushadow so I will obviously need to get that slide.

    Any tips are appreciated!

Check and recheck the installation of the stop and spring. If the spring is in wrong it will have slop and lock the slide back randomly.

First thing I checked and it is properly tucked under the top pin. The spring is freely moving left and right under the pin though which I do not remember if that is normal. Also the spring moves slightly back and forth within the slide stop itself. Not sure if that can cause issues.

  21. So I have been really pushing to get out of D class Production so I made an effort to go to a Classifier Match. I had a few hot runs but a few dumpster fires. With that being said when USPSA reclassified me it bumped this solid B class run out of the most recent 8. I needed that B class run to be able to jump to C class for Production. That being said I am now the only D class shooter at an upcoming Level II match which from my understanding means I do not get anything for winning my class because I am the only one (someone told me there has to be a minimum of 5 shooters in the Class). This was the final update run before said Level II match so I am stuck.

Can I shoot as an U to be grouped with 4 other U shooters or what is the best course of action here?

Was the extended slide stop a recent addition to this particular gun? A former world champion said the first thing he did with a new 34 was change it to a non-extended as he too often bump it up by accident.

Nope it is the original factory extended slide stop that comes on 34s. Might throw in a standard 17 slide stop and see if that changes anything.

  23. 8 hours ago, tdiddi said:

I had the same issue with my G17 it turned out to be the slide stop/release spring.  I bent the spring out to have more tension and it fixed it.  Give it a shot before you buy a new one.

I will have to give that a shot. I may steal a non extended slide stop out of one of my spare Glocks lying around and see if that does anything.
