  1. I have one. I love it. That said-it did have to go back to the factory for a timing issue. Bruce Warren identified it when I sent the gun to be worked on by him, he returned it under warranty to Smith. They corrected it, sent it back to Bruce, and he did his magic on it. I've handled about a half dozen guns done by him, along with an Apex and a few others I can't remember, and liked his the best, so I went with it on my 986.
  2. Bruce's action work decreases the length of the trigger pull drastically. Per my conversation with him, he decreases the stroke through a modification that ensures the hammer drops as soon as the action locks. I've handled about a half dozen guns with his short stroke work, along with an Apex gun and a few others, and I loved his the best, hands down.
  3. I use an X5 all-round that has Bruce Grey's enhanced leverage package in it. Short of an X5, I'd go with the stainless elite and have Bruce work his magic on it; it's worth it. As for being competitive, the will depend more on the shooter.
  4. Instead of the miculek compensator I'd use a Precision Armament M4-72. Worth looking into; they are excellent.
  5. I would go with a TRR8, and short colt brass from starline. I would also have my revolver short stroked and trigger work done by Bruce Warren of BC Armory. Currently I have a 986 (9mm) that had his work done on it-I can't compliment him enough. The 929's (and 986's) seem to have many issues from the factory (including mine). Additionally, having handled and used both the short colt loads seem to load faster. While I love my 986 I intend to switch to the TRR8 with the above as describe as funds allow over the next year.
  6. I'm not a regular revolver shooter, but I do have a 986 and have some experience with the 8-shot revolvers as well. I strongly recommend going the 38SC route. I won't contest that many 929's are fine and run out of the box, but their track record is inconsistent. I'll even add that my 986 had to go back to the factory due to the lockup being so far out of spec; the gunsmith I work with said it shouldn't have ever left the factory. All that said, the tie breaker for me was loading. Other folks may have a different experience, but I found the 38SC brass/moon clips to load faster and more consistently than any of the 9mm revolvers. I'll be making the switch to an 8-shot 38SC next year. Good luck with whatever you decide, revolvers are fun and worth the effort!
  7. Greetings friends! A fellow shooter and forum member recommended this site. Right now I am living in Kansas, but don't have a lot of opportunities to compete due to my work schedule. When I do have the opportunity, I normally compete in IDPA SSP, USPSA Production, or USPSA Limited. Best Regards
