  1. The performance range of 9MM ammo  is very wide, just like .223/5.56mm... you can't really expect one setup to be optimal across the whole range, if I set the gun up to run speer 115 gr tmj @1400 fps and fed XM9001 115gr jhp@ 1420 fps I shouldn't be surprised that it doesn't run federal 150 gr syntec @ 920fps well...same as an AR if I set up for MK262 77gr 5.56mm , I shouldn't expect it to run well on PMC 55gr .223....

  2. My carbon build up has been reduced by 80% since I changed over to restricted gas plugs.. 5 min wipe off with alachol every 600 or so rounds (1 -2weeks of matches)  ... deeper cleaning once a month... Attack the carbon build up In the comp and gas plug expansion chamber once a quarter.. Sig has over gased the gun in response to people trying to run low velocity / fast burn rate powder loads... System was engineered for NATO Spec/ +p ammo (150-163 PF) that ammo reaches 100% burn in the original 13.7" barrels..

I clean the piston and gas plug every 500 or so rounds as well.  I use an ultra sonic and slip 2000 but usually end up scraping the carbon off with a pocket knife after the bath.  The rings on the piston usually come clean after 30 minutes in the ultra sonic but the gas plug ring has been my real problem.  Has anyone discovered a simple way to peel that ring off the gas plug?  Getting it back on is easy its just getting it off is the tricky part.

That is a Mcfarland AR15 gas ring.... designed as a 1 use ring...

I But the PPC model- you refer to as G3- has a different bolt than the other versions.

No the bolt is unchanged..  it has an updated Carrier and spring guide, and rumors of an updated receiver buffer that is black.. BUT I have seen early " competition PCC" models with the orange'ish receiver buffer paired with the updated Carrier and spring guide.

The part i bolded is pretty interesting.  Around here we have some here and there shooters of pcc, but CO seems to be the division that is catching on, not so much PCC.  Limited still dominates here too though.. I really believe that in a few more years CO will be #2 nationwide behind limited and may eventually take #1.  Always figured pcc would be behind lim, CO, and open, but this makes me think it might pass open too, but i ain't ready to commit to that yet haha

Been 3rd most popular around AZ for the last 18 mouths or so #3 at the Yuma Charity match,

    yuma charity.PNG

and 2018 Area 2,  with Limited and Open flip flopping as  #1& #2. PCC a Solid #3... This was the first one that PCC was a solid #2  ... no doubt Open Limited and PCC are the top 3 divisions around the AZ matches..

For anyone who thinks that, they should look at the results from the OH State Championships this past weekend.  PCC didn't even make it into the top 10, with Open (and Bob f'ing Vogel shooting Limited) absolutely dominating. Heck, even Carry Optics beat PCC.

all depends on the talent pool .. 2019 Northern Arizona Classic. Second most popular division. Highest limited was 13th ( current Single Stack world champion, Correct?)

Make sure to put the black bumper in the old lower if your using the new bolt carrier.

My new bolt carrier ( PCC Compitition)  Sig sold me for my oldest gun with 30K + on it,  runs fine against the old buffer set up

Is it just me or is the beloved Holosun 510 just not that bright?  (Yes, I have it on the correct mode)  Compared to an Aimpoint micro or RTS2 it mine is significantly dimmer, and not just because of the larger dot on the RTS2.  I haven't heard anybody talking about this issue so wondering if it might just be my unit?  I live in the desert so it has gotta be bright to work.

Yea one of the reasons I use the UH-1..all LED diode's are not created equal and do dimm over time combined with the quality of the circuits, the inharant draw and the Open lens...I have some Jpoints that are the same way jut not as bright as they used to be ...

  9. The extractor spring and insert is the weak link.  I was having spring failure issues with the stock extractors. Adding the  SSI extractors with the same spring and insert  didn't change anything.  I now use AR extractor springs with the  correct black insert:

    https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/extractor-parts/extractor-hardware/ar-15-m16-extractor-buffer-prod20892.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR-15

either Wolf XP with 1-1.5 coils cut off :

    https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/extractor-parts/extractor-springs/ar-15-m16-extra-power-extractor-spring-prod16488.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR-15

    OR

The current colt with .5-.75 coils cut off:

    https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/extractor-parts/extractor-springs/ar15a4-extractor-spring-assembly-prod4840.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR-15

I cut coils until I get:

    1. Proper tension against the extractor pin

    2. Chabmering of the top round off of a 48 round mag from bolt lock

your results might varry, I am running restricted gas plugs with the MBX comps that increase back pressure, and 13% reduced recoil springs to reduce dot movement. Load is115 gr bullets @1400 fps.....

How were you able to convince Sig to end you a Gen 3 BCG?!?!

4 Phone calls, and I had to pay for the parts.

I needed to address the abnormal gouging in this upper from:

    • over gassed
    • loose ejector
    • bad design of the dovetail interface of the carrier and the spring guide

  11. #1 gen 2 started having issues @ 25-30K.... Started trouble shooting and applying "fixes" in parallel on the # 2 gun and induced the same issues I. #2 gun... Backed out and went down the opposite path and resolved everything in bouth guns ...  Have shared my path elsewhere on hear and been drowend out by others promoting the path that didn't work out for me..

Thank you for the help! I really appreciate it!

If killing extractor springs is a symptom of too-early unlock, wouldn't the +20% spring help that issue and the -13% make it worse?

bad wording not relay"too-early unlock" more of too-early extraction....

Recoil spring rate should have zero effect on the unlock timing of the bolt, the bullet is out the bore before any unlock happens, full locked breach system not blowback like an AR9. The springs do effect cycle timing and stroke length.

However in the MPX I have found port pressure related to dwell time ( length of barrel past the gas port to the muzzle) and powder burn rate to be a factor in early extraction ( before the brass has  receded back off the chamber walls)

so your combo is 8' barrel + Open gas port .0625 + restricted gas plug.0520 + heavy bullet/fast powder + comp that may increase back pressure= not running 100%

I see 2 different symptoms in your posts:

    • Kiling extractor springs=  too-early extraction related to the brass has  not receded back off the chamber walls ( over gassed OR to fast of a powder burn rate in relation to the barrel dwell time)
    • Week and / or erratic ejection= a short stroking carrier or extractor spring failure

Just trying to help,  I run the 13.7" barrels with MBX comps + -13% recoil springs + 115 gr @1410 fps ammo 2 of the guns I use the .0469 gas plugs and one i use the .0520 gas plug...

OEM. I've tried the +20% but they're too stiff and I can't get more than 2-3 rounds to extract

MPX is a locked breach system Recoil spring rate should have zero effect on the unlock timing of the bolt, however in dose effect cycle timing and stroke length.

    • a short stroking carrier can leave a case in the action that looks like a failure to extract but is  a failure to eject. The system needs to go to full open and compress/ bump the buffer before the carrier starts forward
    • Killing extractor springs is a symptom of early unlock .. the case is being extracted before the brass has receded back off the chamber walls

based on the ammo you are running ( heavy bullet fast powder) and the short dwell time (8" barrel) I would try:

    • the -13% springs
    • the "open " gas plug
    • or both
    • drop down to the .0469 gas plug with the -13% springs

    Ejection should be 12-15 ' 1:30-3 o'clock

Just as a contributing data point:

I removed my Taccom comp and replaced with a flash cone (because my barrel is shorter than my handguard).

And the BCM extra power spring still got squished in about 15-200 rounds.
I also really tried hard to fit the o-ring but couldn't get the pin in, so I left it out.

    what recoil springs?

  16. 3 hours ago, hhsmiley said:

Yes, I'm using a new insert each time. I'll try shooting it without the muzzle device and see.

I suspect I won't be able to get the  o-ring to fit either, Maybe with the ILWT extractor...

I have the ILWT extractors in all 3 bolts,   o-ring wont fit for me

  17. Vary good possibly that the comp is increasing back presser. I would rebuild the extractor spring , remove the comp and shoot it to extractor spring failure .. willing to bet it will be more rounds than you have been seeing.

Hope you are using a new spring insert each time you change extractor springs,  not all spring inserts are created equal despite them being black I use these:

    https://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/bolt-parts/extractor-parts/extractor-hardware/ar-15-m16-extractor-buffer-prod20892.aspx?avs|Make_3=AR-15

BTW I couldn't get an O ring or a defender to fit any of my 3 bolts

  18. Check the ejector in the upper, make sure it is tightened down... on the gas plug that's why i went with the fixed port plugs from ILWT so I would know what I am using in each gun... What recoil springs  ( stock, XP, reduced)? I have been happy with the SSI / ILWT billet extractor in all of my MPX's.

    What am I missing??? HELP!

Is open pistol logic applicable to PCC or not???

    Right or wrong?

To work any comp you need gas.
You get more gas with more powder.
You shoot a 115 vs. 147 to use more powder (more gas).
Is the comp is designed correct that extra powder is turned into a flat shooter with minimal dot movement due to a well designed comp.
so why run a comp and 147 gr. Bullet?
Less powder= less gas=less comp efficiency.
    Am I missing something.
I mean no disrespect to anyone that is happy with their PCC load.
If you don’t run a comp or don’t care about making it efficient the I get a a 147gr. With a fast powder possibly.

Trying to speed up my personal load development, is my goal with my new arrived today MBX Comp.
    thank you all
Interested in best gassy powder for working this MBX comp withFMJ 115’s

"Is open pistol logic applicable to PCC or not???"

It is in a Locked breach gun (MPX).

Not so much in a Blowback as they are counter productive to each other.  What drives the comp increases the bolt velocity and felt recoil in a Blowback gun, you can address that with system weight and spring rate

Depending on lighting & weather conditions, I swap the lenses on my Oakley's from the Prism TR45, TR22, or Black Iridium polarized. The Prism 22 & 45 make everything VERY clear and when you take them off, natural or indoor lighting seems very harsh.

I have access to the M frame Alpha and use the Prism Jade Iridium most of the time and the Prizm Snow Black Iridium in extreme bright conditions  (they are  on a modified TR22 base lens ).. Use the TR22  & TR45 in overcast conditions and I have switched to the TR45 for indoor matches over a clear lens..

They all help with the red dot and target to background contrast, Cant stand to use a non Prism lens for anything now.
