  1. I have switched from dryer sheets to paper towel cut into quarters and then some alchol on them. Does a better job in my opinoin and is cleaner, no residue.
  2. I use 200 FP raniers in the 45 36 and 30 and 124 FP in the 9MM 19. Works well, just dont overcrimp or the plating will seperate from the lead. Just enough crimp to take out the flair. They tend to like a load like a lead bullet, they are a little softer that the hard FMJ bullets. I have loades and used 1000's and love them.
  3. I use 200 grain Rainer fp with 5.3 Bullseye and a CCI LP300 primer and a OLA of 1.252. This load chrono's at 816 and is a great target load. I have shot this for a couple of years. Hope that helps.
  4. All the 45 Federal NT I get goes in the trash. They use small pistol primers and really stop the press when you try to seat a large pistol primer in them. Some have said they use them with small pistol primers, I do not want to work up a special load for them so in the trash they go. Hope that helps
  5. One think I learned after having oal bounce was the seating stem. I was trying to load ranier 200 FP's in 45. It was driving me nuts. But in perspective the nuts was .004 to .006 variance, really did not matter except I like things consistent. I ended up taking a seating stem round and putting a slight undercut in it. I then coated a ranier with release agent like used in a bedding job, mixed up a small amount of acraglas gell put it in the seating stem and then put the bullet in the acraglass. This allowed me to make a seating stem that was the exact shape of the ranier FR. This simple custom stem eliminated the variation.
  6. The only thing I do with A-Merc is trow it in the trash. It does not load well at all.
  7. So What did you start with and what was the detailed list of the parts added?
  8. So I like the previous post but go one further. Dump the first four back in the powder hopper and then put 10 in the measure. I am not one for math so with 10 its real easy 5.3 grains is 53 in the scale. I als then check random loads for 5.3. I found it very frustrating to measure tweak measure tweak, can go on all night. With 10 you get good averages. Just my 2 cents
  9. I read a tip here before. The tip is keep a sharp NO. 2 pencil and every couple of hundred rounds just pencil in the top of the black bottom shim from the primer bar in it normal position to the end. This works like a champ. I did smooth it first but then the graphite from the pencil does wonders.
  10. Looking for a good recipe for 45ACP, bullseye, 230 grain rem Golden saber.
  11. I use a lee hand press and a universal decapping die. Works like a champ.
  12. I have a question on the powder system for a 550B. What are the capacities for the large and magnum charge bars? Is the spacer above the charge bar different for the magnum bar? If the spacer is the same what is different, the cavity in the bar? I need to load 65 grains for a 7mm Ram Mag, trying to decide what to do.
  13. Well I talked to IMR today(Hodgen Now.) They suggested that the powder be disposed of before it starts to get slick and wet. When it hits that stage it will combust in the can, very bad. They also suggested I tear apart all the cartridges loaded and dispose of the powder. Blow the cases out, I used a fat pipe cleaner, got some more powder out, and then compressed air to the inside to remove te dust. They said that this dust was not toxic. I am then going to reload all of them with new powder. By the way, I was impressed, a suppervisor agreed to replace the powder, its in the mail. Always did like IMR and Hodgen.
  14. I have some IMR 4320 that has developed an orange powder. Talked to IMR and they said get it out of the house and dispose of it. Turns out I pulled some stuff loaded 2 years ago and it to is developing the orange powder in the loaded cartridge. Anybody run into this before. The powder is only 12 years old and has been stored properly. I am thinking about pulling the 75 loaded rounds apart, thoughts?
  15. Can anyone tell me the difference between 38 special and 38 special +P brass. Is there any physical diference besides the headstamp?
  16. One of the things I have found with OAL problems is the bullett seater. I had and so did a friend major differences in OAL as you are describing. The problen was we were using Flat Points and they were hitting the edge of the seating stem. Had to get out the emery clith and expand the stem so the bullet flat point was hitting the inside base of the seating stem. Now they seat to within .001 + or -. There was also a thread to use foil inside the stem as a temporary fix. As to powder varation I am now using the thread that said set the measure with 10 drops of powder . This got rid of the multiple changes on setup and has upped the accuracy. Might also check the powderbar for wear on the edges of the powder chamber in the bar. I had to replace the one bar because of wear. By the way I always have a casing in the resizer when doing this. I would also use the alignment tool on the head, dillon will send it free. I also had to replace the link arms, they were wore and the ram would spin clockwise or counterclockwise by moving the handle at the full down position of the arm, up on the ram no casings in place. You are not having problems with the shell holder loosing up? Did you really snug up the retaining bolt on the sholder bolt? Does it still have a brass end on the retaining bolt?. Just a few suggestions. Hope ths helps. There is a light at the end. Dillon will spend as much time on the phone as you need to fix the problem and will send all the parts needed.
  17. I am looking for suggestions or info from experience on carrying while hunting. With a CC I can while hunting. I will be carrying a glock 45 or a Smith 357Mag wheel gun 3.5inch barrel. I hunt from a climbing tree stant that I pack in so while walking a waist holster is out of the question. I was considering a sholder rig but was not sure. Was thinking that I would use a condura holster with a thumb snap and carry on a sholder strap of the backpack or on the waist belt. Hopefully Some of you out there have already tried mot everything I could think of and know the plusses and minuses. Why not benifit from your experience rather than me stumbling through senerios that will not work.
  18. Thanks for all the good information. I was at the range yesterday and shot two different factory loads and three hand loads. Guess what, its the Taurus. Big champhered firing pin hole. I had not really looked closlely at factory shot through it. The pressure is fine.
  19. I have reloaded Mixed Brass in 9MM with 3.8 grains of titegroup with cci primers and a hornady 124 grain flat point with OAL of 1.050. These are going 1105 measured on a chrony. When shot out of a taurus 92AF I get a bulge in the primer that looks like it moves the primer back into the bolt face expanding it slightly back into the firing pin champher. With this light of a load I do not think it is an overpressure sign. I am going to shoot some factory ammo through it tomorrow to see what they do. Any thoughtson what might be the cause?
  20. Suggested load for 9mm Lugar 124 remington Golden sabers I am looking for you suggestions for a non +P load, but still up there in velocity for a 9mm lugar with a 124 grain Remington Golden Saber. Thanks in advance for the information.
  21. I loaded some rounds today following the midway site reached from the rainier ballistics site. Their reccomendation for a plated 124 g Flat point was 3.3 to 3.9 grains of Bullseye. Well i decided to go from 3.3 to 3.8 with an OAL of 1.090 and CCI Small Pistol primers. Well the 3.3's got out of the barrel and cycled the slide, but just barely. The shells landed on the bench. The 3.8's were a little better but not full ejection, just over the shoulder. Anybody have any thoughts on the max load for this senerio?
  22. Has anybody tried the RCBS lockout die to check powder level. I have a Dillon 550b and will be loading 45acp and 9mm Luger to start with. Really sounds good the no double or squib loads. Just wonderded if they work and how good. Does any other manufacturer make them?
  23. I tried some trial rounds today. The load was winchester brass, a CCI300 primer, 5.3grains of bullseye, topped with a rainer 200 fp with a oal of 1.210. Very accurate load but I had 5 jams out of 50 shells. Was thinking the load is to light. I miced the case and only had the same expansion as factory ammo and .002 less that factory defense load. Was thinking that the load is to light to light to completly rack the slide. According to the load data I can go up to 6.6grains. Was thinking of going up to at least 6.0 slowly and watch the cases for pressure signs. Wanted any opinions on this issue or other ideas on what might be causing the jam. Thanks
