  1. Many thanks for your help. I have been worried about this all week.

The 8" was purposefully designed for 1K batchs of 308 and 30-06. I will cut to 18". I have 20# of pins so I will make sure not to exceed that in brass weight. (Thanks for that pointer). I have some 6" I am going to make into smaller drums for pistol but I can get multiple drums on tumbler with them.

Again thanks and I knew I should have just asked this community first.

  2. All:

I have followed bigdawgs designs and have read through mounds of postings here and on other sites. I always saw the diameter of the pipe mentioned but never the lengths. It also mentioned volume of water but not whether that was empty or loaded with brass and pins.

So I have a question, When deciding on the length of the pvc pipe do you leave any headroom for water or just fill to top and water in and around brass is enough?

I put 1500 308 cases in an 8 inch pvc and it was 18" deep. Is that good enough or should I add 4 inches for headspace?

    Thanks, Steven

  3. Now what is the best way to break that down for each round :) for a cost savings. From those numbers I can see it is already 1/2 the cost of what wwb is :)

Ahhhh but the evil that lurks behind the wall is that you will shot 2 or 3 times as many now so the realized cost savings ins a wash or worse none LOL

  4. They not only make tough doors but have a division that makes reinforced concrete panels for the rest of the room. Their panels use concrete mixed with steel fibers. Very tough.

Would this be the Ultra High Strength Preformed Panels your referring to? Pretty amazing stuff. They resist blast and failure in shear amazingly well for concrete. These puppies can run up to 30-40 PSI strength. Add a couple of post tensioned cables in it and it will almost bend like steel.

  5. While technically the computer is provided by work and for work it is assiged to me as a laptop for use. While porn and such are verboten my job actually requires a certain amount of surfing the web for product info and supplier searches. Since it is going to be connected to the internet, since it is behind a firewall, since it is required to run an anti-virus software with weekly full scans, since it is managed by a IT group, and since the exchange servers are filtered, since all pages active content is denied...... I think it is pretty safe and the OMG yoour gonna infect the world attitude is less than sincere.

Ironically the BAD WORD filter stops many pages. Especially firearms, knives, explosives, etc. etc. Ironic part is my job is to develop and test weapon systems. Most of the time I am looking for a supplier or MSDS sheets etc I get blocked. There is a procedure to request 1fer unblocks but the lameo IT folks take 3 weeks to process and when they have to reboot the firewall machine once / week to keep windows stable they forget to reload the firewall exceptions. Of course you now have to call the braindead help desk and provide port numbers and exception request numbers to get it reinstated in 2 days. Especially entertaining is when you have to spell KERBEROS (Major encryption package) to them.

Sighhhhhhh there a much more expanded hate rant. Now I don't want to hear about thou should only touch the machine for work line. :P

  6. I hate being at work and aving a little downtime to look at forums.

Being able to see Benos world. ARGHHHHHHHHH not being able to reply to any posts because I get denied by the filter.

    Stupid Stupid Stupid.

And they wonder why folks go postal.

And before I get a smart remark... Yes I am at home now.

  7. Scooter:

I hear ya and it hurting your delivery ratings. For others his problem is if he makes them to print but they are "wrong"... The gov will reject the part. Not because it was mismade but that they (gov) screwed up and the part was unuseable. Since the part was rejected scooter gets dinged because the right part was not "delivered". I have seen this before.

Yeah stupid I know but you "edumacated beauracracy at work"

You are right and are caught in a catch22. I have only been in the gov since 2002 but the idiocy and such drives me crazy on a daily basis. COMMON SENSE is dead it seems. Processes and paperwork are created to supply jobs. When one "process" is fixed they just create another one to make sure the folks don't loose jobs. but I digress....

Unfortunately the only outlet is to ask for a contract mod or when the contract is rebid make sure that delivery of parts that are technically correct but not suitable are not counted in the delivery rating. I would even go braoder and have a clause that if a part is rejected and the cause can be traced to the Gov then the contractor is not held reliabel and all payments should be made. Then when you deliver on the DD250 make sure it documents the reason it will "not work" (Hint Hint) If you want specific wording for such a clause let me know. Is this rating a basis for bonuses or profit sharing?

    Tough spot.

  8. I also, like our own BE here, in a former post, took the ratchets off immediately on my two 1050s and never looked back. For me they caused more problems than they were worth and I havent experienced any negative problems, which I think is due to my almost anal reloading practices.... ;)

(the ratchets are a pain in the a$% if you have a bad case, primer stuck...fill in the blank..)

    Good luck,

    DougC

    +1

I loaded about 2000 rounds with it on then dumped it. of course now if I have an issue I clear the shellplate and start again. But at least it isn't a PITA to raise the handle and clear the plate now.

  9. Want to know if your calling the shot....

Put a target out far enough you can't see holes :)

Take a shot and immediately close you eyes or look away. tell your shooting buddy where the bullet hit. He can mark it on a spare tgt/copy etc.

I have had a buddy looking thru Binocs to tell me.

You can really learn how well the shot calling is getting. Start slow and speed will come as all the mechanics become second nature. AKA subliminal.

I have found as things move from concious thought to sub-soncious I can concentrate on the next problem area.

  10. Don't know what/who you are working for but here is my 2cents.

I am a program manager/engineer for the Air Force in weapons development. With the onset of Aquisition reform subcontracotrs have alot of leeway on issues like this. Frankly I am surprised that the gov is issuing change orders like that. The current mood is to lay the problem out and let the contractor provide the solution.

You are correct in that you must contractually build to the order. However, you can contact the PM and explain the situation and that you wanted to make sure before you proceeded. Bring it to light by pointing out that you wanted to make sure the program did not end up wasting money/time that could be spent to obtain more units down the road. PM's are under a big gun to bring projects in without alot of this stuff.

Problem is I do not know how your contract is written or even if your working directly with the Gov rep. If you are a sub to a larger contractor the gov PM's do not get involved.

The type of contract makes a difference as well. If it if firm fixed price then they would have to go the contracting person that holds the warrant to "plus up" the contract to cover $$ mistakes. This is iffy due to what funds are programed as and the color of the money. This usually means they steal from another program to pay that one or reduce the units purchased.

I would point it out with the cost savings and schedule speedups. Some contracts cost share on stuff like this.

In any event... IF you make it exactly to the blessed CO and they reject it they still have to pay you for it. It was no fault of your own that you were told to manufacture the wrong part.
