  1. Just wanted to revisit this thread for some advice on the primary (magnified) optic.

I'm considering swapping out the TA11 for something with more magnification since I have the red dot for up close.

    I was thinking maybe a Nightforce 2.5-10x32. Thoughts/recommendations?

NO!! NO!! NO!! I have the 2.5x10 velocity reticle nightforce........It is an awesome scope but stay away from "all that power". I thought the same thing (about the more powerful scope being better) but for most of what we do you don't need that much power. Stick with the acog.

What makes the ACOG better for long range targets than running the NF on a medium power setting?

The ACOG my not be "better" for long range targets but in an entire season of 3 gun how many target will we shoot past 300 yards? I figure we'll shoot a much higher percentage in the 100 to 200 yard range so I lean toward focusing on a scope that will shine in this area but will still get it done as the distance increases. 400 is the longest I can shoot at my range and the acog makes that shot with ease.

  2. The nightforce uses a second focal plane reticle and as you go through the various power settings your impact will change.....My scope was zeroed per nightforce calculator and used about a 200 yard zero with the 200 yard hash. One day while shooting groups at 100 I ran the power up a little and noticed my shots were a little higher than the previous group. So, I went through every setting from 2.5 to 10 with about a 5 inch difference from lowest to highest power setting. With this much variation at 100 yards imagine what it is at 400!! If you set up the scoope for say 10 power and shot it on 10 power all the time this wouldn't be an issue. You could make the scope work IF you do your homework and know what its doing for whatever distance/power your are working with. I struggled with it for a few months and finally gave up.....just seemed over complicated to me. Simplicity is what sold me on the acog.

  4. I chose to shoot through the house with the rifle. While I do agree that you lose time in the transition to the rifle I think it evens out once all is said and done. Had I shot the house with the pistol I would have had to reload and I didn't like the idea of manuvering through the house with the rifle swinging around. For me I think I would have been slower shooting the pistol because of the previoulsly mentioned obstacles. This was my first 3 gun event so without any experience I chose the way that I felt would be easiest to execute and didn't leave much room for error. Made it out with a respectable score and didn't hurt myself or someone else so in some ways I think it worked.

  5. Ground pistol, unsling shotgun (ground it near rifle), retreive rifle (and sling it) retreive shotgun, proceed with stage...

    OR

shoot pistol strong hand carrying shotgun in weak hand, ground pistol, retreive rifle, shoot shotgun, ...

    OR

There are a couple of other options, but which is fastest/safest??? :goof:

This will be my first 3 gun event..........been following this thread for a while and all this talk leaves me scratching my head thinking what in the world have I gotten into!!

  6. This is going to be a great match. Anyone that can make it out should do their best to come; even though it is Valentines Day. What better way to spend the day than with the shotgun you love!!

YOu are a brave man putting the below in writing! :surprise:

"What better way to spend the day than with the shotgun you love!!"
