    18.9 Holster

Received the G-Code XST today - it fits the 18.9 perfectly. Good call ski_dog!

thanks! I like the concept of the XST - I think I will ordered and give it a go/ Now, like everyone else, I wish I could lay hands on some mags.

    18.9 Holster

Holsters for the new 18.9? I just picked up an 18.9 I was hoping it would fit into my Safariland ALS. No joy. So who sales a holster with retention that will fit an 18.9? TIA
  6. I went through this same decision tree a few months ago. I wanted to replace a Nikon M223 on my 3-gun AR. I have an FFP 5-20 mil dot on one of my rifles, used for medium to long range - it is perfect, for me, for long range, unknown distance shots where time is less of factor than it is in 3 gun. I went in thinking FFP scopes are the best thing since sliced bread. So, I started out looking at FFP scopes. I found most to be too busy for 3-gun, and the horseshoe too wide for the quick shot. And, most FFP scopes seemed to try to meet the needs of every shooting situation. Long story short, I decided on an purpose built SFP, 1-6, with a simple red dot and simple BDC marks up to 600 yards. For close in, the red dot is perfect. 300+y on 6x, the BDC works great. from 100 to 300 on 2-5x, I have found that the subtensions are plenty close enough for the 3 or 4 MOA targets that I see at most matches. Most of the time, I am on 1x (red Dot) or 6X anyway. FWIW, the scope I picked was the Vortex HD GENII with the JM reticle.
  7. 2nd Dulles; Reagan may be cheaper, but Dulles is further out of the Metro area and will save you significant time getting to and from Peacemaker.
  8. Any updates or long term reports for the 1-6? My Google-fu found no real data after 2012ish....
  9. I am new to the game, and dont have experience with vey many optics platforms, but I can offer some use data. I have a Nikon M-223 w/Nikon mount, 1-4x, with the BDC reticle. (Apparently a Midway exclusive - meh) It was cheap compared to the high end gear. IMHO though, very much worth the price. At 1X, it is very fast. Clear, not distorted. I have had no problems shooting with both eyes open, and shooting fairly fast and accurate. I have not shot past 300 or so with it. Accurate, clear, no issues. 300 yards at 4X works fine for me. It tracks - changing the turrets, moving back to zero, no issues there. (floating turrets - nice feature) The issues - Sneeze on the turrets and they move. I have made it a habit to check them every time I pick it up or stage it. Not illuminated. Fine cross hairs can disappear against a busy background. Re the BDC reticle - I really dont know how accurate it is past 300. It is the Nikon BDC 600 reticle, which I thought was only accurate at 9x. I suspect the presence of the BDC 600 reticle on a 4x scope was a bit of flim-fammery. So I am satisfied for now. It will do while I save my pennies for a nicer illuminated scope. I have my eye on the Vortex with the Miculek reticle.
  10. Thanks for the kind words. We buried her last night on my wife's family farm. She is in one corner of a back field; my daughter and I like to sit together in a deer stand in another corner, so now we can just glance over and see her on those frosty mornings when the sun comes up.

  12. Bassham.... Ok, I'll take that advice. Copy ordered.
  13. In a P-mag. But it's heck getting that first one out. Made ready, buzzer goes off, Mag in, bolt dropped, rifle comes up while safety coming off, see the target....click....nothing. Smack the mag, yank the charge handle. Click. Roll it over while watching and the top round is not being picked up. Fumble around for a bit more. Now here is where it gets complicated - I finally swapped to my spare mag and sent off 10 rounds - empty. Huh? SO I have to go back to the original and try to get it worked out. I slam it in, drop the bolt and the top round jams. Drop the mag, finger in the ejection port, cleared, mag back in, bolt home, and wallah, everything runs smooth for the rest of the stage. After it was over the SO told me he thought I had 31 rounds in the mag because he noticed the top round was on the left (or right - dont recall ). I learned something with that tidbit!! And, I started the stage with the wrong mag to begin with; I was supposed to start with 10 rounds. So two mistakes. I have a bad habit of completely blowing the first stage of any match I am in.
  14. I solved the problem. Cut the ...uh...soiled....portion off, let the rest dry.
  15. Production - I never moved beyond a Comp-Tac Holster, Fobus Mag carrier, and good leather belt from Tractor Supply. One mag in the gun, two on the belt. I second shooting a few matches before dumping $$ into a lot of gear.

    G34 Mag Release

Try switching the release and using your trigger finger. Seriously- dont laugh. I am a southpaw, and use the mag release on all my pistols as they come from the factory, which means installed for a righty, Works for me. Caveat - I learned that way because I can pick up any pistol and chance are, it is set up for a righty. My muscle memory is trained for it. If you train for a reversed mag release, and you are right handed, you may be placing yourself at a disadvantge or worse. On second thought, it's a bad idea.
  17. Standing up and dropping my copy of Guns and Ammo in the bowl. Yes, I just did this.
  18. Hey, which FCP? The FCP-K, FCP-SR, McMillan, or HS? I bought a couple of ten round for my FCP-SR from Brownells - http://www.brownells.com/magazines/rifle-magazines/magazines/detachable-magazines-prod45250.aspx
  19. I chose a Timney 4lb drop in, for the simple fact that it was, well, a drop in. 10 minutes to replace the horrible GI trigger - I am very content at both short and long ranges.
  20. My SLP Mk1 is happy with anything 3 dram equiv or higher. Anything lower, it doesnt cycle properly. I have not found a light load that will work reliably.
  21. Hey, Va piedmont area - I have been shooting IDPA, USPSA for 3 or so years, just started 3-gun. Smith M&P Pro, FNH SLP, LMT/lower RR/upper, Tac Optics with Nikon M-223. Cheers ya'll !!
