  1. Yeah, I learned my lesson with molys, shooting limited. Those darn things get everything dirty. The 140 fp I use are Ibejiheads. Ive had good luck with them in limited and have probably shot around 20k of their 180s and about 10k of their 190s. The 140s haven't leaded my barrel or showed any signs of it and I'm about 3k rounds in. I'm right about there as far as tuning this thing in. Muzzle control is great and dot tracks well. I do have a little room to sacrifice some muzzle flip for a softer shot so I'm thinking EGWs 7 chamber 5 port comp.
  2. Yes, it's an older SVI frame and slide that has been Acc-u-railed. It has a hybrid barrel with 3 large popple holes, 4 up ports on the comp, and 2 very small side bleeders. I traded off one of my limited guns to see if I would like open. So far it's been alot of fun. I haven't bought any 135s yet but the 140s are close enough. They're really cheap to develop all of these loads with and have, so far, been very accurate and haven't leaded my barrel.
  3. Ah, I remember now. I may try some 155s and see how they feel. I definitely didn't like the 165s. They were too harsh and I really had to bear down to keep the dot in the window.
  4. Do you prefer 155s over 135 now? If so, have you tried any MG 155 hp? I was curious and went as light as I could economically but would be willing to to to 155s if I felt it would benefit me.
  5. That was actually next on my list to try Splash. Based on 135 grain loads it was very close to WAC but I did notice CFE was around 70 fps faster for the same charge weight and slightly higher on pressure. I'm wondering if going a tad under will give me good gas pressure and shoot a little softer compared to wac.
  6. That's a nice rig. I just couldn't get the feel for a slide ride so I moved to a delta point and it feels great so far.
  7. Well, I tried 8.2, 8.6, and 8.9 longshot loaded to 1.165 with a 140 grain fp bullet . 8.2 made major for me at 171 pf 8.6 was 175 pf and 8.9 at 177 pf. 8.2 was soft and the dot didn't leave the window. 8.6 and 8.9 actually felt the same and had a hard smack in the hand with no noticeable gain in muzzle control. I then loaded 30 more of the 8.2 but accuracy suffered and I had fliers. Switched back to the 7.6 WAC and accuracy returned and muzzle rise felt the same as 8.2 longshot. I'm going to try a EGW comp next and revisit HS6 because I do agree that it feels the softest but WAC has better dot tracking. I want to try a different comp configuration to see if I can tame the recoil a bit.
  8. Have you used WAC or HS6? I'm curious how longshot compared to them. What kind of rig/comp setup are you running.
  9. For .40 I use a combination of Taran guts(with modified follower), Taran 4mm base pad and the old style tube and can start at 21+1 or 20 reloadable. I can actually reload with 21 on a few of my mags but it requires a deliberate shove, not hard, but more so than normal. I bought a couple of the new style to try and just out of curiosity I pulled the guts from one of my current mags and can only get 20+1 at start and 20 reloadable. Anyone else share the same problem?
  10. True, and that's my fault for not being more clear about my needs/wants.
  11. My issue with plugs is that hearing in my right ear is damaged. I prefer electronics because they help me hear range commands and hold converstions without having to take off my muffs. I failed to mention that but it still doesn't change the intent of the original post on finding quality ears that suit My needs. I'm glad your hearing is still perfect but for those of us that don't have perfect hearing, amplified ear muffs are very handy, provided they still block out noise at a safe level.
  12. I'm hoping so. It's got clean lines and a hybrid barrel but I may have some slide lightening done whilethe racker is cut. I did order a deltapoint pro and a new blank mount for it so that should solve that problem. Since its an older plastic grip SVI, research tells me the frames are identical to sti so a pt evo grip may be in the cards as well. I haven't handled an aggressive SVI signature grip so im not sure which direction to go. Have any suggestions?
  13. I use Ibejiheads 140s, but I load them for my .40 open gun. Currently I am at 176 pf with 7.8 gr WAC at an oal of 1.165". I'm betting you could lower that to 7.2-7.4 if WAC was your choice. You may want to try a faster powder like cfe pistol for a bullet this light in .40
  14. Thanks for the quantitive data Clang! Makes it much easier to weed out subjectiveness.
  15. Anyone have any experience with Msa sordins indoors? Iim not exactly impressed with their 18 nrr but there seems to be alot of good reviews on them. What's the deal?
  16. Yikes! I considered doing a carry optic with a vortex venom but I may reconsider now haha. Have you tried the delta point pro? I've heard nothing but good things and just ordered one to try out for myself.
  17. I'm good with that. At 60 bucks it'd be worth having even if they end up as backups down the road. I double plug with my Peltors but I can't hear anything because it's amplification is weak. I end up having to take them off just to have a conversation.
  18. Thanks for the recommendation. How well does it amplify sound , as in normal conversation levels?
  19. I like it! That looks better than any open glock I've seen so far.
  20. The pic didn't show up?
  21. I think my lgs has a few bottles of 3n37 and n340, so if all else fails ill give that a run. What comp setup are you runniing Tag?
  22. Thanks NM Tag, I was trying to stay away from VV powders because of availability and pricing. I ran n320 exclusively for my limited loads for a while but it got scarce and almost impossible to find. When I did find it, people were wanting 40-45 per lb. I ended up switching to Ramshot Competition and like it just as much if not better. Have you found any good loads witth vv? I see n340 seems to be popular for open.
  23. Nminzghor, care to share a load with it? I've seen some longshot at my local gun shop so I may give that a try. I started with the ibeji bullets because they were cheap and I wanted to play around with different powders to see what would work the comp configuration I have the best, then I was going to switch to Ranier or nosler. An added bonus with the ibejis was that the accuracy is sub 2" standing at 25.
  24. Yeah, I've tried hs6, but I couldn't get the dot to track as well as WAC. I'm still playing with it but so far WAC is edging hs6 out.
  25. Time to revive an old thread? Well I traded for a .40 open gun that I had the intention of rebarreling to .38 supercomp (it's an svi with interchangeable breach face) but decided to shoot it first since I had a bunch of mags for my limited guns. I was seriously impressed and I don't think I will change anything at this point other than optics (going to deltapoint pro). So far I've settled on ibejiheads coated bullets in 140 gr fp over 7.7 gr WAC and it's a flat shooter at 174 pf. I was wondering if anyone else has tried those particular bullets with any other powder.
