    Oh cool. Thank you.

I think im gonna look for a 23 slide. I want the conversion barrel for just a touch more muzzle weight. Or at least that’s the thought at the moment.

Last plan abandoned.  My buddy had a 19 slide, complete, with a LWD threaded barrel all unfired.  He sold it all to me for a very fair price.  I'm now waiting for my one gun a month NJ silliness to be done with.  I'll grab the frame monday and put the pistol together with a polished stock Glock trigger for now.

I'm thinking to grab a Hyve trigger and am wondering if anyone has any experience with it here.

I'm also still stuck on which magwell to grab but the SLR looks pretty solid so I mag go that direction unless I hear differently from someone on here.

You might consider running factory mags - I have a few ETS mags, and they've been decent, but the springs aren't as stiff as I would like(added a Wolff extra power spring to one of them, and that helped).

    Thank you.

I just grabbed a couple of factory mags.  We are limited to 10 rounds so I'm not sure about how they will run.  I have another "Franken-gun" that I'm going to try them out in and see how they perform.  I also have some Magpuls and they seem ok but I'm not thrilled.

The G19 is not a choice for competition. A G17/G34 is your fist best choice for USPSA/IDPA/Steel Challenge and 3 gun

I shoot local, club level matches at 10 yards for nothing more than the fact that I get to run my gun.

So, in my case, the 19 works just fine.  Thank you tho.

  5. I have stumbled onto a G19/3 and I'm looking to build it into something kinda racy.

I have minimal experience with Glock firearms.  I have in the past owned one, a 19/4.  It was cool but I don't love plastic guns.  So I sold it.  I have not had a desire to own another  until recently when I saw the plethora of available parts and ease of assembling and building them and how much fun it can be (anyone that knows me knows I can't help building sh--stuff).

So, I have the frame and recently purchased a LPK and locking block kit from Lone Wolf.  It came with the trigger and all the attendant parts.  What I'm looking for is suggestions on parts to buy, parts to avoid buying, etc.  Any tips and tricks from experienced "builders" would be much appreciated as well.

    My thoughts are as follows:
    *Glock 19 Gen 3 frame*
    Stock parts kit minus trigger
Apex trigger (I've got one in another pistol and like it but am very open to suggestions)
Stippling of some type, I may try it myself.
    ETS magazines

    *Stock 19/3 slide*
Stock upper parts kit (for now)
Window cut the front and cut for a mini dot
    Lone Wolf barrel, threaded
A compensator of some type --- I'm totally lost on this one and have zero experience with comps on hand guns but will run this in some local games hence my wanting one.

I'm for sure looking for recommendations on magwell and extended mag release.  The magwell is not as tough, the mag release is.  I dislocated my thumb some years ago and don't have full function.  Pressing a release is tough on the standard size.  Especially the 3's. I'd prefer something a little lower profile than something like the Zev paddle but will deal with whatever my final decision is.   On  my 1911's I run a paddle release.  I don't love it but it's what works for me.

Color...  Well, that's up in the air as well.  We'll see how that rolls.

Again I'm looking for suggestions on which way to proceed and which way to avoid.
And, before it starts, this is not my first rodeo.  I know about the pitfalls of building, the extra cost involved, etc.  Additionally this will not be a HD gun.  Essentially I have every avenue covered already and am in the toy buying phase.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have been wanting to chop a 17 lower to accept 19 mags. (effectively building a 19L or a 17K)  If one did not want to buy/adapt the slide and barrel to work on the compact frames, does anyone have the chop measurements and/or instructions?

I didn't watch it but it'll give you an idea:

Scroll down a couple of posts and a gent gives some solid advice:

  7. I currently run a Chargemaster and I like it well enough.  However if I was to try and get more "precision" I would for sure look at the FX120i.  My buddy has one.  He's been killing it at the range and the informal matches so far this year.  He attributes it to the thrower and I don't disagree.  He's a hella shooter but has gotten even better and more consistent.  Pretty impressive.

    ORLY?!

Because the last IDPA match I was at, I was immediately informed I was cheating because I was using moonclips. Ignoring that it was perfectly legal since I was shooting magnum power factor, IDPA revo is such a weird beast - less barrel, less ammo, twice the power compared to most divisions. They must have been dealing with some really fast revo shooters when they were writing the rules given the Harrison Bergeron-type limitations they imposed on the division.

Anyway, I've just always liked revolvers with no real reason as to why. ICORE L6 is my favorite division because I like the feel of an L-frame more than an N, but I've finally settled on some agreeable N grips for ICORE Limited and USPSA.

    Not quite what I meant.

I mean that you can't be off your game when shooting wheel guns as, IMHO, they are less forgiving of form errors than a semi with a 4 pound single action trigger with a clean break.

You can use a 17/34 top on a G19 you can use the slide adapter from LoneWolf to cover the gap.  Brownells makes a slide that is a G19L and has the accompanying barrel for it.  Which also leads to another thing. For the build you will have to buy a specific barrel for the specific build. Buying a barrel for a Gen5 17 or 34 will work as they use the same locking block as a G19.

    Very cool info.  Thank you.

I'm currently looking for a Gen3 G19 frame to have it sent to my FFL.  We'll see how it goes.  I'm not 100% on it.  But looking pretty seriously.

  11. I shoot them (only at club level) because I prefer the recoil impulse over semis.  And I feel that they fit my hand very well.  Working on them is a joy and very complex and simplistic all at once.  I like loading for them as there is no worry about cycling the slide.  I also enjoy when I'm at a match, having guys come up and ask "Why a revolver?".  In all they make me smile a bit more than a semi ever does.

I also really enjoy the challenge.  One poster mentioned that there is no "cheating" a wheel gun.  Shooting one keeps me on my toes.  I enjoy the self-challenge.

Good luck getting it all figured out.

  12. Thanks all for the suggestions.

I won't be buying factory.  I'll be putting this together as a project to have fun with and also use for matches... occaisonally.  But mostly for fun.  Carry...  not here in my state.

@louu Nice to see another Jersey boy.  Thanks for chiming in.

  13. Howdy all.

I don't have overlarge hands and the G19 grip suits me just fine.  I recently shot my buddy's pistol to confirm.  And because I did, now I want a Glock.  I'm strongly considering "building" my own pistol.  I'd use a 19 frame and a 34 slide.  My thinking is that for casual, club level competition, it would be a really fun pistol to shoot.  A little extra speed for any knockdown (I'd want to run 147's) and a longer sight radius for a little better accuracy.

Am I missing anything?  Would the 17 be a better fit for a club shooter?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    So we want participation trophies?

OK I'm working/shooting the SNS 400 on June 7-8-9 there are now 3 revolvers signed up.

If the match director(Jake Martens) does not have a problem with it here is what I will do if we get 2 more for a total of 5 or more I will pay for medallions or coins for everyone that shoots the match in revolver and has a score. If we get 3 in a class(GM/M/A/B/C/D/Senior/Junior) I will pay for a trophy/plaque in that class.

AND if we get 10 or more revolvers with a score(you have to shoot and not just sign up) I will donate a free competition trigger job ($300 value) to be given away random draw to one of the revolver shooters. So odds are 1 in 9, or more if more sign up, since I won't be in the draw.

If you don't want or need the trigger job it will be transferable so you can sell it.

Match is almost full with 35 or so slots left so don't waste too much time. This depends on Jakes approval.

    That's awesome.

The problem is that when we get to that point you aren’t actually shooting USPSA, you are just using their targets to play your own game.

I personally think that that's one of the best things said so far.

Listen, I get getting serious about competing.  I really do.  However...  This really is just a fun game for me.  I DO NOT make a living at shooting (or guns in general).  I shoot and compete to have a good time.  And that's exactly how I will continue to carry on.

I shoot a 625JM with 185's moving pretty slowly and other than smoothing out the action, that's it.  I bobbed the hammer, changed some springs and ran the stuff that rubbed on an Arkansas stone a bit.  FWIW, I bobbed the hammer because I grip my revo pretty high.  I completely suck.  BUT, I have a ton of fun.  At the end of a stage, whether I clean it or not, I'm smiling.  I feel better.  I simply enjoy the shooting aspect of it.  I also enjoy the learning.  And meeting up with some friends.  It's just an enjoyable experience.

My one buddy wants to shoot a BUG match soon.  Just me and him against each other but we'll use the match for the clock.  I mean why not?  We're both there just to have a good time. I mean isn't that the point?  To have a good time?

I think you would want to keep extended cylinder releases in moons and open divisions, but maybe keep the speedloader division more stock. Note that I am just wishlisting here, and am specifically not advocating for further dividing up the revolver division. While I would personally like it, I don’t honestly believe it would increase participation.

That's how I feel as well.

And this is for a match that I'm dreaming up anyway.  A local club "outlaw" style match.

Too technical on the divisions.  just go, speedloader, moons, open.  I would add in major minor, but wouldn't be a deal breaker

    Thanks.  I'm just spitballing here.

What about extended cylinder release? That’s a fairly common external mod.

I don't know.  My initial reaction is to put that in an open class.

    1. Get your local club to do a specialty Revo/SS only match once or even twice a year. Or add it during a 5th Saturday or Sunday.  But make it something different and absolutely do not allow anything other than Revo and SS. Buddies egging on their other buddies is a powerful thing, I've seen it at locals.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.  I will be talking to the one guy at a local club that I know and who runs the matches.  I really like the 5th sunday thing.

    Great suggestion.  Thanks.

ETA: I would probably try and work it out as an "outlaw" revolver shoot.  Something fun that could wind up being relatively fast paced and would encourage participation.  Static steel with a couple of knockdown plates thrown in is what I'm thinking.

    Maybe:

    Centerfire only.  No major/minor

    Production speedloader

    Production moonclip

No outside mods to the pistol aside from grips/sights.  No comps.

    Open

         Anything goes

Thoughts from those with more experience would be wonderful.
