  1. Sorry if this has been posted and discussed, but I just discovered rowdyb's youtube video on shooting the new IDPA classifier. Since we have snow and ice and I won't be shooting it for some time, it was great to get a look at what a Master run looks like. Thanks, Rowdy. By the way, what gun were you shooting?

Ah.  It's been a while since I messed with one of the SA triggers.  Does it look like that screw is preventing the trigger bar from going forward enough to take out the screw?

It would be a guess, whether yes or no.  But, I can't adjust it and move it forward without taking it out, which really does seem counter productive.  However, the OEM SA trigger does not have the pre travel screw and its position still has the front of the trigger bar covering about half of the staked screw.

  3. I have two 75 SAs.  My 75b SA has the factory single action trigger which only has an over travel screw.  I have a 75 Shadow SA with the CZC flat faced single action trigger.  It has an over travel and a pre travel screw.  However, the pre travel screw is located at the top of the trigger and hidden within the trigger opening in the frame.  The over travel screw on the CZC trigger is unaccessible without removing the trigger.  It still appears that the trigger and trigger bar must come out.

  4. Thanks

Depending on which SA trigger you have, you may have to back out the pre travel screw to allow the trigger/trigger bar to move further forward.

    Thanks, I will try that.

  5. When I switched to an extended mag release on my SP-01 DA/SA I backed out the staked screw that retains the mag release spring and trigger bar spring. I removed the springs and switched out the mag releases. Since I performed this operation with the hammer down, the trigger and trigger bar were far enough forward that I could back out the screw without removing the trigger or trigger bar.  With my 75 SA the trigger, being single action only, is located farther to the rear and the front of the trigger bar obstructs my access to the screw.  Unless I am missing something, to remove the screw to make the same mag release switch on my SA, I must remove the trigger and trigger bar, correct?
  6. Since the SP-01 has a full length steel dustcover, it is only legal in ESP when it is kept in SSP legal condition.  That means the safety must be OEM equipment on the SP-01 or another CZ that is also SSP legal, like an SP-01 or 75 Shadow.  The Shadow safety has the longest shelf that is legal in SSP.  I understand  your pain.  The CZC extended safety works great for those of us who could use longer thumbs, however it is not legal in SSP. It is legal in ESP, if it is installed on a CZ 75b or 75 Shadow (they have the short dustcover and can be modified with aftermarket parts).

http://czcustom.com/cz-75-safety-shadow-lhs-d-style.html  legal for an SP-01 to use in ESP.

    Thanks

The safety on the Shadow is a welded up version done by Jim Milks at Innovative Custom Guns. He did this a few years ago.

I so surmised. One would hope that CZ takes a cue, sooner rather than later, from some of the safety mods that have been done by their customers and make the stock safety a little wider and long enough that we all could activate it from single action.

CZ don't sell spare frames, so it should be more expensive.

A lot of guys here in Cali swap out their blocked slides for shadow slides and usually sell them for $250/$350. The few frames I've seen have been in the neighborhood of $500.

    Thank you for the input.

Does it effect the feel of your grip much?

Will be going back and forth between a USPSA production gun (75 frame no magwell) and an IDPA gun (cz 85 either set up for esp or ssp). If I thought the magwell would change the way my hands feel on the gun a lot I would probably pass on it and just shoot ssp.

I have an SP-01 without a magwell and a 75 Shadow with the magwell. I really don't notice much difference. My hands are medium sized and I get a full grip on the magwell gun without overlapping the magwell.  You will need compact grip panels or cut down your full size grip panels to accommodate the magwell.

  10. I have one on a 75 Shadow. It works great. I did grind down the pin on the mainspring plug to where it is more of a nub than a pin. It still holds the magwell tightly in place, but it is much easier to get on and off.

  11. If one was to divide a CZ 75 into the slide and the frame and sell them separately,  how would the prices compare? 50% slide 50% frame? 60/40 with slide at 60? Frame at 60? 55/45 what do you think?

We modified a magwell for Morgan Allen on a CCP pistol to fit the box for SW Indoor this year. you have to do a bit of trimming but it can be done.

    Stuart,

I sent you a PM. Thanks.

I shoot with a CZ 75 Compact in IDPA CCP. I have not found the factory mag release to be an issue. Mods made so far:

    1. Magwell. Essential upgrade. Make sure the width fits in the IDPA box.

    2. SA flat trigger. A good mod. Mine still has too much take up.

    3. Taller front fiber sight (the gun shot very low). I'm still not super happy with this set up, as I find myself using the very bright dot for aiming at intermediate distances when I really want to pick up the top edge. The result it low hits. It seems to be much more of a problem on this gun compared to any of the others I own. I think it may be a function of the combination front sight height and shortish barrel.

Did you bevel the existing magwell or did you add an after market magwell. If it is aftermarket, what did you use.  I haven't seen any that observe the 1.375 inch width.

    kneelingatlas, Dave and Stuart,

Thanks for the heads up on machining the shadow release.

  14. I have a CZ 75 Compact with the perfectly round mag release button.  I am thinking of shooting it in IDPA CCP.  The only extended mag release that I can find has the elongated button.  I am guessing that I am out of luck, but does anyone know of availability of an extended mag release with the round button?

  15. Oddly enough, I was just dry firing my SP-01 with the EZ D sights from CGW and my 75 SA Shadow with the Shadow sights.  I have wrestled with the same question.  I was confirming one more time that my target acquisition is quicker with the EZ D that has the bigger light bars.  I think I am going to order a .95 wide front sight for the SA Shadow.  My eyes are Medicare qualified.  However, in slow fire for absolute accuracy I think the wider front sight has the advantage.

  16. For those of you who have trouble activating the safety on drawing your CZ 75 SA here is a solution.  My buddy, a retired welder and metallurgist, modified my safety to approximate the size of the CZ Custom extended safety.  The CZC safety is an excellent safety but it will not work on the SA without changing the sear, sear cage and right side safety because it is only offered with the D style components.  The SA employs the tumbler style safety.

I have used this modded safety for a couple weeks and it works great.  I have activated it on the draw 100% of the time and it gives me an excellent thumb rest.  My buddy says he can modify others. PM me if you are interested.

  17. I have a 75 Shadow SA with a flat trigger and a CZ comp hammer. It compares very favorably to the trigger on a Springfield Armory Range Officer (1911) I own. I feel that for me, the extended safety could use a little more extending. Look at the picture kneelingatlas posted. If the shelf of the safety extended toward the beaver tail for the full length of the safety, it would be better for me. I can disengage the safety on a draw fairly consistently, however once in a while, my thumb slips off. If you have long thumbs, it probably won't be an issue. All in all, an excellent pistol.
