  1. I recently posted a question about whether the Australian Shadow extended barrel would fit in the CGW 10x bushing. The consensus is that it will not. I need a new barrel for my 75 Shadow SA.  My current barrel is no longer serviceable. Please don't ask why. I know the advantages of the 10x bushing. I installed one on an SP-01.

I doubt there is any increased accuracy with the Auz barrel, since the fit has to be loose enough to slide the extended barrel through the internal bushing.  I have read a post that states there is some increase in velocity due to the .225" increase in length and that it shoots flatter.  I shoot this gun in IDPA matches. I am debating whether to buy the factory barrel and a 10x bushing and get greater accuracy (although the gun's accuracy is pretty good, right now) or buy the Auz barrel and possibly have faster follow up shots due to requiring less powder and a flatter shooting gun.

For you who have the Auz barrel, what do you think? Does it really shoot flatter? How much faster is it?  And I am fully prepared to ignore the posts of those who don't have the Auz barrel but feel the need to tell me that .225" won't make any difference one way or the other. :)

  2. Has anyone tried using the Australian Shadow extended (4.925") barrel with the CGW 10x bushing? Will it fit? I need a new barrel (another story) and I am considering the Australian barrel for a little more velocity. I shoot ESP (CZ 75 Shadow SA) in IDPA.

  3. Nice work. I too like to ride the safety. I have added to my 75 Shadow SA safety to get the same effect and was wondering what to do if I bought a P-09. Thanks for the example. It may not be legal for Production or SSP but it is legal for ESP (as long as it fits in the box).

Late to the party but I'm trying to wrap my head around this. Last fall I picked up a used CZC Shadow target to use in USPSA under the assumption is wasn't IDPA legal due to the milling for the rear sight. So ow the Shadow Target is legal in IDPA? Which divisions would a target be legal assuming it is in stock form as shipped from CZC? (I don't have a magwell or anything else on it)

This would be great news and the closest USPSA ranges are an hour away from me where several IDPA ranges are within a half hour. (or used to be)

It looks to me like you are legal for ESP.  Rule 8.2.1.2 disqualifies you from SSP because of the slide machining, however rule 8.2.2.2  allows slide machining for sights as legal in ESP.  Since there is no longer a prohibition for the full length dust cover, it looks to me like you are legal for ESP. If you choose, you can add a magwell and be legal for ESP.

I don't know about the Springer magwell. The CZC magwell is huge even after it's been worked on and I can give it a thumbs up wrt functionality. But the base of the magwell is the widest part of the gun and as I mentioned, I had to file it down to fit the box.

I'm using the standard left side safety. A wider safety would definitely be a good upgrade, but would probably make the gun too thick for the IDPA box. The wider safeties that I have on my TS and Czechmate are really big and would certainly not fit the box.

I use 18 round Mec-Gar mags with either stock plastic or thinner aluminum CZC baseplates. I only load them to 8/9 rounds of course.

So, you eventually got it to fit the CCP box, correct?  Can you post a picture?

I have a Type 1 Disco on my SAO CZ75 SA. It helped reduced the pre travel a tiny amount. I prefer using that over the pre travel screw.

Did leaving the disco in create any other issues, good or bad?

Did you just convert your shadow to SA only?

It is a CZ factory gun.  It came from CZ Custom with their sticker on the box (91711), although I bought it second hand. It has the Shadow slide, sear and hammer.  The factory trigger is the same as the 75B SA with a slight curve at the bottom and narrower than the CZC flat faced trigger.  The previous owner installed the flat faced trigger.  If I buy a second flat faced trigger (the reason for my original question), I will install it on my Cajunized SP-01 and remove the disconnector  making it SAO. I already shoot the SP-01 as single action from the first shot, now.  I just use the 85C trigger. I am trying to decide whether I like the flat faced trigger enough to switch the SP-01 over to SAO.

So to reiterate, does anyone know how the CGW and the CZC flat faced triggers compare?  Yes, I know I can call David and ask.  I was hoping for a 3rd party opinion.  Ontos, what say you?

  8. I have a CZC SA flat faced trigger on my CZ 75 SA Shadow. I like it. For you that have both, or at least seen both, how does the new CGW flat faced trigger compare. Is it the same width?  I am asking because I order periodically from CGW and might add one to my next order.  Thanks.

  9. My CZC aluminum magwell weighs 1.5 oz on my cheap little postage scale. I don't have a scale large enough to weigh the gun and magwell together but with a 40 oz gun and a 1.5 oz magwell plus the little bit that the aluminum base pad's weigh, it should come in below 43.

what makes the Edge's barrel a "Bull Barrel" but  the SP-01 is not??

The SP-01 barrel is the same diameter throughout and there is an internal bushing in the slide.

  11. Thanks to a post by Kells81, I read the IDPA ESP equipment rules for 2017.  There is no longer a dust cover restriction that I can see.  Because of that the SP-01 should be legal for ESP without adhering to the previous rule of, "if it is legal for SSP it is legal for ESP, as long as there are no modifications illegal in SSP" (paraphrased). By being legal without adhering to SSP rules means that the SP-01 will be legal with a magwell, an aftermarket safety and trigger and anything else that is permitted in ESP. Am I on track here? Have I missed something? Let me know quickly because I am getting ready to go have a beer to celebrate.

  12. I can now answer my own question. I swapped out my mag release tonight.  The trigger and trigger bar must come out to make the swap on a single action only trigger. However, the sear cage does not need to come out to remove the trigger and trigger bar.  Drive out the trigger pin and insert a slave pin.  Lift out the trigger and trigger bar (the rear of the trigger bar slides neatly from beneath the sear cage) with spring intact.  Swap out the mag release.  Reinstall the trigger and trigger bar using a CGW floating trigger pin.

I shot this the day the first of the "new" rulebooks came out. Since then it's already changed with the addition of fault lines at the barrels for the classifier and the -0 scoring zone addition to the head. And rumor is the rules will be changed again here soon.....

But thank you for the compliment. I was shooting a regular CZ SP01 Shadow as built by Automatic Accuracy, RLN Custom holster and pouches and CR Speed EDC belt.

Fewer strings, no head shots out of the holster, fewer shots at distance and only one kind of reload. I think my summation still stands, this is a shorter, less complex COF but a decent test of IDPA skills. I also think the skills are a little technically easier, so that people should be able with practice to shoot a higher classification than the could previously if they were close.

Again, thank you for the compliments and interest in my shooting. I hope you get out of the snow and ice and can start your outdoor shooting again soon!

    You're welcome.
