  1. I've got near 500k rounds on my spring now, and it's still going strong.

I'm assuming you've lubed the bolt well with a high quality grease?

I got a dab of oil on it. Will try out some nice grease.

Oil won't cut it, as you've found out. Gotta be grease.

Do you grease the roller too? or just the bolt the roller goes on?

  2. Could also be the return spring is fatigued and not applying enough pressure.I have replaced several.

Thats what I would replace first. Every 1050 owner should keep a few of these on hand.

How often on avg do you guys change the spring? This one is only maybe 10k rounds old.

There is one other thing it could be, it's possible to install the return spring upside down and it's under way less tension if you do that.

But assuming that's right, it's probably that the spring is getting weak and needs to be replaced like others said, if there's not anything binding up the free movement of the index pawl (tip).

Will definitely check that. Pretty sure it is in correctly though.

Is there a washer between the spring and the press casting? Looks like it to me.

I've also personally screwed up the assembly on the bolt and put the spring in a bind which causes exactly what you're seeing.

If there's a washer, remove it.

    Nope, no washer.

  3. Still not sure if they are replacing it yet. Based on their emails they think it was my fault and wouldn't be covered.

Email 1: I have only seen that happen once before. In that case we determined there was an out of balance condition in the trimmer which set up a vibration which eventually fractured the die. That was maybe 15 years ago & I don't recall whether the customer replaced the cutter head or just the insert but it did not happen again after he got the vibration corrected. If there was a flaw in the die material (unlikely, but not impossible) one would expect it to fail within a few hours, a few days at most.
Email2: Send us the die. I will have it analyzed. If there is any flaw in the material it is under warranty. If it if a vibration crack it is not. know about the 1500 although I have not seen one. One of our customers got one last spring. He was one of the people testing the 1500. If memory serves me he runs about 100,000 rounds a month of 300 AAC.
  4. Not sure what is going on here. The index arm sometimes gets stuck causing some mishaps. Just not sure what it can be. I take out the arm and clean it up and put it back in. Sometimes it makes it a few hundred to 1000 or sometimes it just goes back to doing it.

Sometimes it loosens itself up and indexes correctly, but sometimes it just stays stuck.

Anyone know what causes this or has a fix?

  5. Not specialty at all. Fastenal has them by the bag of 100 for like $5.00.

Now, what's interesting, is that I just bought a new conversion kit for my 1050... The new kit has a recessed, longer shoulder bolt that no longer puts stress on the intersection of the threads/shoulder.

Mine snapped not too long ago and made the plunger useless as it had the threads stuck inside. Dillon sent me a new set and it is like you described. Sooooo much better now eliminating a issue.

  6. I was using the CH4D Dillon Trim Die to convert 223 to 300AAC and has always worked fine until today. All of a sudden I hear a thud and see my Dillon 1500 trimmer on the bench next to my press. The die snapped in half!

Has this happened to anyone before? I am kinda thinking the weight of the 1500 trimmer over the 1200 trimmer caused this? I already emailed CH4D for a warranty replacement.
