  1. Do we have any idea about long range shots? What distances they went out to last year etc?
  2. It has been a pretty common theme at matches, both big and small, that no matter how out of line the popper looks, the RO will not touch it until it fails to go down and fails a calibration. I'm not going to search the rule book to see if that is written there or not, but I can tell you that I have been told that by multiple RO's at multiple matches that that is the/their policy. If you are a RM and you have a policy that allows ro's to proactively set and reset poppers, then bravo, but how is that equitable for the guy who was last to shoot it before the resetting. Maybe he got an edge or low hit that would send it down if it were reset just before his run. I think that the policy of not changing the settings until it fails is the only fair way to do it. It does suck when the popper falls into the range where the first hit moves it a little (enough that the calibration hit sends it down). I just don't know how to make it fair otherwise. Maybe if they reset it to exactly the same pressure between each and every shooter.....not really feasible either.
  3. With the rules for calibration ring what they are - "you can't fix a popper til it fails" and the fact that everything built by the hands of men is inherently flawed, consider the buffer in your loads to be a buffer against the popper changing during the course of a match. We have all seen that popper go from "perfect" to "you can't knock it down with a 2x4 over the course of a few squads. As unfair as it seems when you are the one that it failed on AND you lose the calibration, I don't know of a fix for that situation. Bottom line is this - if you are relying on the difference between 125 and 130-132pf for your place in the finish, then you should spend that time and worry practicing drawing or reloading. Those two things will earn you way more difference than the difference in 125 and 130.
  4. I have heard that argument against Practiscore before...."we will have to buy devices". We didn't buy any. Surely there are enough people with iphones in your club to have one per squad? We just figure out who will run the squads, then we find someone with an iphone and pair them up together. If you are buying, don't buy nooks.
  5. N320 is awesome in 45. I'm at 4.0 iirc with a 230.
  6. Each of those items could provide page after page of debate. I have tried the Hornady 225 gr projectiles and the Sierra 220's both were fine. I'm most interested in casting my own for subsonic at this point. H1680 and H110 are the two powders that I have used. I have read that unique works with the subsonic stuff as well. With the ballistics of the BO, a 1-4 would probably work fine. The burris 1-4 is plenty of scope for the money.
  7. Dawson will make you sights in any width you want. They did for me. It's like $20 extra, but worth it if that fixes your issue.
  8. What does the other end look like? Is the brass extending out of the opposite end of the checker?
  9. What make barrel is it with the chamber that is tighter than the JP? Supposedly, the chamber checker is cut with a chamber cutter/reamer so it should be the exact same. I believe they use wylde as well. You may just have a really tight chamber in one of the barrels. Call JP. They have always been very helpful when I had questions.
  10. Does a loaded round drop into and out of the JP chamber checker?
  11. Maybe 4-5K. That is probably pushing it though. I realize that I am in a small group here, but I really get off on a gun being, feeling, and sounding smooth. There is a guy who shoots with us who built his own gun by hand, with no power tools other than a dremel. (so he says - doesn't really matter for this example) He hand filed and lapped the slide to frame. The gun is rather ho-hum looking, but I love running him just so I can hear when he racks the slide. It just sounds so silky. My gun shoots great, I just hate the way it feels/sounds. Maybe a trip to a smith is in order. Should they refit the slide altogether, or just lap the rails?
  12. I understand that the position of the rails is different, but it is still metal on metal. Racking a well oiled 1911/2011 just sounds smooth. My cz doesn't feel/sound that way. Is it a lesser steel? My CZ is from the custom shop and is a real tack driver, but it is like nails on a chalk board when I rack it.
  13. I have a wifi hotspot that we use to sync practiscore devices. Anybody with the hotspot feature activated on their phone can provide the wifi to sync. The hotspot doesn't even have to have service to get to the Internet to sync the devices. You do to upload though. Upload to practiscore is about three buttons. No big deal at all.
  14. Variable vs standard springs = no difference to me. Lighter vs heavier springs - lots of difference. I tend to go with as light a spring as I can get by with before I start noticing a hard slap at the back of the cycle. It is very subjective, but if you put enough rounds through the gun, you will fell all kinds of new things. of course, there are shock buffs to deal with too. I don't mess with them, but lots do.
  15. One of our "must have's" when we became official with our matches was the ability to post scores before we left the range. With handheld wifi hotspots and practiscore, we can do just that. We typically have one guy collect the scoring devices and do the sync and upload to practiscore while tear down is happening. That way our shooters can talk smack all the way home.
  16. Make sure the tool head bolt is tight. I had the same issue and found that it had gotten loose.
