  1. I made these when I first started reloading (early Obama era). "Original" is first one I did.

Redid it in 2020 right before scam-demic hit. Someone on here was asking about reloading costs and I was bored on a layover so I updated it. Funny, in January 2020 it was cheaper to buy 9 and 223 than it was to reload it..

You can do with them as you'd like. Put in your own numbers, whatever.

I have enough reloading supplies to shoot at my current level for about 10 years so I'm not interested in updating it again any time soon, but be my guest it you want too. It's a lot of work to look up all the current supply costs and input them the way I have it, but if someone wants to do it, have at it.

I have a mac so they are in numbers. You should be able to convert them to excel though.

There are formulas in there so you can input in your reloading investment to see how long it takes recoup your cost. Cost of reloads vs factory. Both SD and practice factory rounds. How much to make your own SD rounds. All kinds of good stuff.

  2. Truglow TFX pro

I have them on my Gen 3 G20, as well as several other pistols.

I’m an evangelist for red dots, but if it’s not a competition pistol and it still has iron sights these are my go too. So, if it’s a pistol I carry, these are the sights.

I’m 48 and my vision is just starting to deteriorate slightly. I have no problem picking these up with or without my glasses.

They are bomb proof, and reasonably priced. Less than $100 on Amazon.

  3. I used mixed brass and get single digit to low teen SD’s with ES’s of 20-30 all day every day. In everything. From open guns to sun compacts. It’s not the brass.

Powder and primer selection CAN have an effect. But TG at the loading should be fine. I’m guessing it’s your technique, probably powder drop (TG should flow fine out Dillon). With a fast pistol powder like that small variations can make a big difference. But again, Dillon should hold +/- .1, which should not make that big a difference.

Like someone else said, you throw that 998 out and it’s pretty average for 11 shots. You probably spilled a little powder on that one and didn’t realize it.

With cast you may be over or under belling? Inconsistent seating (especially with mixed 9MM brass, which is why I use mr bullet feeder power funnel, really helps with mixed 9MM brass)

Bottom line is large SD/ES is 99% consistency. I know it’s probably not much help, but something in process is inconsistent. Just change one thing at a time. Process of elimination.

The other 1% it can just be a combination the gun, bullet, and powder doesn’t like. For example I’m working on a 40SW load with 165s and HS6. I know for a fact my process is spot on. The charges are weighed to within +/- .05 of a grain. Still getting SDs in the high teens low 20s, ESs in the 40-50 range. Is what it is.

  4. This

When I was looking for an after market Gen 5 rod, this is the only thing I could find that I liked.

I have the heavy Gen 5 in my G17 and two 19X’s. They work great. I was able to tune the guns to specific ammo.

Just get a couple Wolff spring and experiment.

  5. I have Heavy Jager's in my G19X, G19X Parker Mountain Machine Gucci model, and G17 G5.

Had to experiment a little as Wolff spring rates seem to differ a little when used in Gen 5 vs Gen 3, but after a little tinkering all good.

I think when they say for Gen 3 only, Wolff is just letting your average Joe know that you can't just drop a regular guide rod and spring in Gen 4 or 5.

I have no scientific proof, just anecdotal paper and chrono proof,  but I've found spring rates can after effect accuracy and SD / ES quite a bit, depending on firearm and load.

I'm guessing it has to do with lock up time and pressure curve.

Anyway, work good, last long time.

Saw a few very old threads on this but didn't want to post there.  What are your thoughts on the Giraud? Many say its inconsistent.  Have you found a better trimmer?

I just clicked on the video. I didn't realize you were talking about the drill mounted Giruad trimmer. I thought you were talking about the free standing bench model.

That's similar to the Worlds Finest Trimmer and Worlds Finest Trimmer II. I have the WTF II. I think the Giruad model chamfers and deburs too? WTF does not.

In that case there is no comparison to a bench model. Either the Giruard or the Henderson. I used to do hundreds and hundreds (if not over a thousand) pieces at time on the WFT II and my hands were screaming by the end. There just isn't any comparison to the Giruad or Henderson bench mount. I can trim brass all day with the Henderson because your fingers aren't doing the repetitive motion of pushing, and pulling, and turning.

I have not used the Giruad bench mount, but I've been told that after awhile you start to get the same finger fatigue with the Giraud because you are still hand holding each piece of brass. That's why I went with the Henderson. With the amount of brass I need to trim, I just wasn't interested in handling the brass any more than absolutely necessary.

The bench model Giruad is still going to be better than the drill mounted version due to the stability and powerful motor.

Much of reloading is trading money for your time back. This is one of those cases for sure.

I used a friends Giruad and it was really nice and easy to use.  I have heard good things about the Henderson and want to get one.  The problem is they are usually sold out when I have the money.

They are ALWAYS sold out. You have to get on his email list. When a new batch is available you'll get an email.

You gotta act quick, but at the same time they don't sell out in 5 minutes either. By the end of the day they are usually gone.

If you don't get one, you will stay on the list and each time a new batch is available you'll get an email. I missed the 1st batch I was notified of, but I wasn't in a crazy hurry either. Second time another batch came out I got one.

Todd's a nice guy. Glad to give him my business.

  8. Started with WFT II. Still use it here and there.

I have the Dillon for bulk processing on 650.

For precision rifle stuff, Henderson Precision. It’s awesome. But so is the Giruad. Personal preference. I liked the flow in the Henderson better.

  9. Just build some and test em.

Maybe V-crown designed to expand at lower velocity, but I doubt it?

Where In the world can you find SWMP now days ? I can find aa7 in a few places but shooter world is out of stock every where

Yea. I don’t know. Just get on the notification list everywhere for when it comes in stock is the best you can do.

I ordered 2 more 8 pounders in late February early march when I saw all this nonsense coming.

I just got a notification from from Midsouth they got a bunch of SW powders in the other day. Got another 5 pounder of Clean Shot. Was $123 I think? Paid $93 for the clean shot I bought in spring of 2020. Crazy. Got a 5 pounder of Clean Shot from midway a few months back for $113. Now it’s over $130 at Midway.

Anyway, no easy answer. Just stay on top of it and be ready to buy in bulk and buy quick when it comes in.

  11. RMR or Everglades JHP

I'm limited by mag length so 1.155 to 1.160

I used to run silhouette 7.6 grs gave me 1468 FPS

I've switched to SWMP and think it's better for all the reasons discussed above. 9.9grs gives me the same 1465ish, but with more gas. Comp runs better, gun shoots flatter.

I guess I should feel good about being one in a million who can shoot NON roll sized 9MAJOR Ammo with zero problems. I have loaded sorted range pick up brass over and over and over for almost ten years. LEE udie $30. How much is a roll sizer?

You’re two in a million. Lee U. I don’t even really sort cases, besides culling the stuff that stands out when I put a load into the pan to spritz with One Shot. Probably been shooting my open gun 7-8 years with no issues.

Had more issues with ejection tuning, then I ever did with bad brass.

Guess we’re just lucky. But at what point does it cease being luck, and just become a statistical anomaly? 5000, 10,000, 20,000, 100,000?

Maybe if my livelihood depended on it I’d feel differently? Who knows?

No right or wrong or answer with this one. Whatever floats your boat.

How many uses are you all getting out of your 9 major brass? I "get" the shoot it until the primers fall out but I'd like to prevent cracking, which i've had some of lately.

No idea. I don’t have specific 9MM major brass. Just comes out of my 5 gallon buckets of 9. I’m guessing with the amount of brass on the ground, unless you mark your brass, most are probably lost and new ones picked up before you’d split em. The process kind of lends itself to a natural state of turnover.

  13. Curious. Have had one in my cart for months. I have a self tuned FCU from my M17 that I used in a Wilson Carry and Compact grip with M18 Upper. Kinda want one of the Sig Custom ones though just cause…

I have the Armory Craft trigger and accessories in my unit and it’s awesome. Left the manual safety on. Like to have a non manual safety too.

Terminal performance was not a consideration when designing the new PD JHP.

It was designed to be a competitive/recreational JHP, and will most likely exhibit no favorable terminal characteristics when fired into ballistic gel.

Copper prices continue to head north, and availability is abysmal. Lead is as high as we've seen it in a long time, and availability is tough for some companies. I can tell you that some companies that do not have the ability to pour their own billets or extrude their own wire are having to search for material.  Shipping costs continue to tick upward too.  I say all that to say, I don't think you'll see prices coming back down anytime soon (although I don't have a crystal ball).

Anywho... Since pricing is being discussed.... How does a sale on PD 124JHPs for next 24-48 hours sound? It won't be advertised anywhere else, just here. Thanks to those that use PD products.  ;)

Btw, apparently the PD V1 JHP's have decent expansion characteristics — this was posted by @Ssanders224 in a different thread years ago:

"Fired into calibrated 10% ballistic gelatin, through FBI spec “heavy cloth” barrier. 13” of penetration."

Thank you. I was unaware of that. I think I still have a 1000 of so of the V1s. I'll have to do a little experimenting.

I wonder how the V2s fair. I like that profile better.

Understanding that your post may have likely been rhetorical, incase it wasn't:

It was pretty much the same situation — all the well-regarded JHP manufacturers were pretty close in terms of cost in 2019.

For 124gr JHPs, I think PD was 8.8 cpr back then and MG was the same 9.6 cpr that it is today. I don't remember what RMR or Everglades were cpr-wise, on account of immediately eliminating them from consideration after calculating them to be more expensive than PD and MG (not by much, but I figured why bother paying even a fraction more when PD and MG's were available for less and already top-flight).

Nowadays, PD is 10.6 cpr and MG remains at 9.6 cpr. They've flip flopped on who is the cheapest out of the two, but are still within 1 cpr of each other.

I think the majority of reloaders consider both brands to be of excellent quality and on par with each other, so outside of brand preference (seems as though there is a decent amount of badblood among the community with regard to MG as a business) I'd imagine that for many people it just comes down to cost and availability. For JHPs, MG availability was significantly better than PD during 2020. No idea about 2021 as I never looked. PD availability seems significantly better than MG for 2022 so far.

Yes. It was. You made my point. Thank you.

PD/RMR/Everglades were all the same in the before times. RMR and Everglades had great holiday sales. You could JHPs for less than $.08/each on sale in bulk.

No more sales. Everyone is less than cent difference now. Did just pick up 2000 PD 115 JHP V2 for $.095 each yesterday, otherwise PD is most expensive now. But again we're talking about a penny.

I have no skin in the game. I buy from whoever has the cheapest per bullet price for the bullet I need. They all work great. I do like that RMRs JHP reliably expand at the appropriate velocity.

  17. I know we aren't supposed to discuss political stuff on here and I don't want it to turn into that, not that it has, just trying to prevent that.

    Economics knows no political affiliation.

And I really wasn't trying to scold or pick on anyone.

As with most things in life I'm just trying to get people to think outside their normal scope and responses.

Just put the shoe on the other proverbial foot and think about things analytically before emotionally. (Which I am just as guilty of BTW. I am human)

Just because an item is on the shelf or "In Stock" does not mean someone cannot charge market price.  It costs them the "new" price to replace that item on the shelf.  To keep their stock up to par (when they can).  That is how a capitalist system works.  Its the reality that we live in.  Everyone has bills to pay.  Every business owner has to figure out how to keep the lights on.  Increasing prices also hurts volume of product sold for that business.  Business owners have to figure out how to overcome lost revenue today and in the future.  It also not up to a business for them to figure out how to help you out when they are struggling as well.

    This. ^

This is what I'm talking about.

There are a million reasons why someone could or would raise the price on something "in stock" and for us to pretend to know why or begrudge them from a purely analytical reason makes no sense to me. It's 100% an emotional response. I have learned any time I have an emotional response to something I try and check myself. Doesn't mean I'm wrong, but I really better double check my work.

I guess we could ask them why they raised the price, but short of that, we have no idea.
