  1. Two questions.

Are vertical grips allowed on a shotgun?

If the shotgun or rifle is slung, does it break the 180 if you bring it off your back to shoulder and fire it? I assume we are still observing the 180 rule even with an slung empty rifle or shotgun?

Vertical grip is allowed on a shotgun in Tactical Division however if you use it as a supporting device, you will be moved to Open. I suggest not having it on there and there will be no temptation.

I am signed up to shoot in tactical limited, and want to know if this "easyloader" is allowed on a remington 1100. It's manufactured by Dave's Metal Works an helps the carrier gate open for loading, since the 1100 is locked until the button is pressed.

    Any advice?

EZ Loader on an 1100 is good to go in the tactical divisions.

  2. Larry,

Since you are being so forthcoming with things, what type of targets are you using for long range? In particular targets over 250ish.

    Matt

Somewhere between the size of a mousetrap to the size of a barn door! :roflol: Do you honestly think I was actually going to tell you what the target size was. If yourgun holds sub MOA the gun will do fine, now the question remains can you hold sub MOA.....that will be the deciding factor!

    Matt

And what is the penalty for not hitting them?

STIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF, even stiffer for not engaging, so no gaming there Mr. Mayor, I saw your video, GAMMER!

  3. Well shooters.....I just completed a walk of the range and well I came up with a few new twists of sort. Be prepared for rifle targets as close as 7 yards (paper) to (I found a hole to shoot through) 425 yards. All stages will maximize choices and yes you can shoot up to 2 guns on a stage or all three guns if you want. I would ensure you can hit a 6" plate freehand at 50 yards with a rifle and a 12" circle at 40 yards with a handgun. Oh yea, shotgun slugs to 75 yards and if a bird flys or a rabbit runs, you might see it on a stage. Just saying be prepared for everything.

  4. Larry,

    I shoot tactical optics.

I have a forward folding grip that I use on tables and prone position.

It is not touching the table or the ground when I shoot. My hand is under it.

I fold it to the up position when not in use.

Can I use it in your match?

    Thanks

Sorry my friend but that would be considered a supporting device.

5.3.4.3 Supporting devices (bipods, etc.) are prohibited.

Now allow me to explain. That provides an extension on the forend to allow you to put your hand under it on the ground while shooting off hand prone. For this reason it would be considered a supporting device and not permitted in any division except open.

You could leave it on the stowed position and not have an issue, it would be similar to the Magpul angled grip. However once deployed and used with your hand under it, then you would be moved to the open division.

    Hope that clears the air.

  6. So must you use all 3 guns for every stage? Some stages would allow using only 2, for instance stage #1 handgun and rifle, no shotgun.

    David E.

    YES

Okay, at the risk of being dense, I just want to be clear on this one. You must use all 3 guns (I take that to mean engage at least one target with each of pistol, rifle, and shotgun) on every single stage?

(I couldn't decide whether Larry was saying, "YES use all 3 guns" or "YES some stages would allow fewer than 3 guns"...)

You do not have to shoot all three guns......we like options. However if a gun is required to be slung or holstered (kinda know which one that is), you must have them on you at the start. After that if you want to safely ground them in an approved grounding container, knock your socks off.

See not difficult at all. Of course not all the stages require a rifle or shotgun to be slung. Puts another decision into the stage break down, thus the 10 minute walk through verses the tradition pistol, 5 minutes.

    Hope this helps,

    Larry

Last year we ran some stages with only 2 but could have run 3 gun if we chose. It was a tactics issue.

To clarify there is NO match hotel in Inwood! Do not show up at that Hampton for the shooter's meeting, you will miss it!

If I decide I am going to just shoot two weapons during a stage do I have to bring the third weapon just because or can I leave it in the cart? The reason I ask is some of the stage descriptions say to start with all three.

    Matt

Yep if the stage description says to have one slung and if you choose only to shoot 2, then leave it slung but you must start with it slung! All stages give you options but trust me Murphy found it's way onto many stages last year. I did leave some options of slung or staged. If that is the case, you have the option to use it or not. I staged a coupld of guns last year just as a precaution in the event of a jamb or breakage. Luckily I did not need them however you never know.

Let me verify with Linda however, I am sure it will be the same as last year. You can register on the range Wednesday, then Wednesday night prior to the mandatory shooter's meeting or special circumstances Thursday morning prior to shoting (last one will be extremely limited and like you wife just gave birth to your first child, not sure even if that would qualify)

Linda, will send information out to shooters but check your confirmation of registration.

  11. We will have MGM Recon Targets, IPSC out to 450 yards, Colt Speed steel out to 250 and Sammies out to 80 yards. I forgot about the iron sight guys last year. This eliminates the whinners from having any air time.

    we'll always wine.

I shot a 308 bush rifle last year with an aimpoint at the 160yd sammies and the the 250 yard blocked colt speed steel. I thought they were good targets, but that is mostly based on the fact of being prone, off sandbags that we got to punch a few times when we staged the rifle.

I looked up the MGM recon target. The falling/resettable long range target is really good for the sport. However: there is nothing to index on for holdover. And at 450yds, there is a lot of holdover. Maybe it's just me, but I much prefer the MGM flasher. It's wide enough that you can see the flasher on both sides of the blade, and you've got the flasher to index some of your hold over.

again, maybe it's just me, but I love wine...........

I could buy flash targets for the match to make it easier for you whinners, however the cost of just 1 - MGM flash target is one less gun on the prize table. That is why I am taking up the offer of the recon targets to use. However being ever mindful of the shooters, I will check around to see if I can get some flash targets for your shooting enjoyment.

    Larry

  12. OK...so here is the scope, the match is full however we have established a waiting list.

I would recommend getting on the waiting list as we have had people back out several weeks before the match.

I would love to give everyone a round count however there is no way to tell you what to bring. On every stage with the exception of one, you can shoot multiple targets with multiple guns. For example....stage 1 may require 12 rounds of handgun, 8 birdshot and 18 rifle, however you can shoot the paper targets with handgun, rifle or slugs. As you can see there is no way I can tell you what exactly the round count can be becuse you can shoot it however you want.

Be prepared to have fun but be prepared for shots out to 400 yards this year! For you iron site shooters we will have neon arrows pointing to where the target location will be.

    Larry
