  1. Handled one in person at WI Sectional. Figment was great and on par with the beauty of the gun. Waffle top is the best. I wish my gun had that treatment. Carne would be on my short list if I was looking for a new build.

  2. Tried 4.6 - 4.9 of Sport Pistol under 180 Blue Bullets and ACME at 1.185 OAL today. I had the best accuracy with ACME.

4.8 provided great accuracy at 17 yards and well into PF comfort zone.

Group and 10 shot data in the pictures for 4.8 grains. There was one outlier shot at 913 FPS. I suspect that has more to do with my loading habits than the powder. YMMV

  3. Orlando. Universal Shooting is a little over an hour south of Orlando.

I’m not a fan of the city but I have young kids and there are endless things to do that are kid friendly. Flights are reasonable from the Midwest. Delta/MCO handle checked guns like it’s no big deal. VRBO homes are very cheap if you’re willing to be 30 minutes from Disney. Mid-March is warmish - high 70s to low 80s.

  4. I went to Dillons today to get some bullets. I saw the xl750 there and asked some questions. I asked why the 550 type priming system and the salesman said it was for new reloaders, often they get overwhelmed about changing from small/large primer systems. I also noticed that the high low switch on the case feeder had a rheostat instead of the switch. No biggie for me... There also was a bearing cam and spring that replaced the indexing block. That’s all I saw. I really can’t see why anyone would “bail” on the xl650.

I think the most telling thing is that Dillon won’t be selling the 650 anymore. They must believe that the changes are that much better.
  5. Any reviews on the .40 single stack (96717)? Listed for about $880 and a $75 rebate. Not a bad deal for a .40 SS with front serrations and checkered grip, BUT it is a Remington ....

Any reviews on reliability? Better to pay 2x for the Dan Wesson .40?

  6. Just under 2lbs is usually the balance point with ease of shooting and reliability.  Below that and sear springs can drift enough in tension to cause hammer follow. It’s not the $90 hammer or the $30 sear that causes the issue it’s the $6-30 spring that causes changes that creates the problem.

I like mild creep at just under 2lb, because it pulls straighter than a 1.5lb “glass” breaking trigger for me.

^^^^this. Hammer follow sucks but the 1# pull was fun when it worked! 2 to 2.5 now, very happy and very reliable.
  7. Ha, I have chrono issues.  So my first response is the chrono.  VV320 has been very consistent for me over the last 15 years.  Yes I had National and Area Chrono results and use that ammo as a control.

The only time VV320 ran slow for me was a Tulsa Nationals for L10.  It made major but barely.  Two days later at Limited no problem.  L10 was very cold.  L was normal.  At 39 degrees I would expect a lower PF not higher.  Check your chrono if you do not have any control ammo to compare.

If you have watched the Chrono guys using two chrono, generally you will see two different velocities for the same shot.  Chronos are just weird.

You are correct. I’m getting lower PF in the cold.

We’ve had terrible weather in MN so once again, the temp was cold when I chrono’d this morning (35). Similar velocities as last week and slower than 94 degree A4.

I have a load that I’m comfortable with at 35 - 40 degrees and should be GTG for warmer temps of FL later this month.

I still haven’t ruled the chrono out. I’d like to run two at once.
  8. Agreed ES looks very high ... and not at all consistent with my prior experiences with N320 and 9mm.

I’m using mixed brass and a dillon powder measure. I checked individual and average drops several times and they were consistent. So, I was feeling pretty good about the powder charge but acknowledge that the dillon drop does have a margin of error.

  9. I’m getting odd results from the same lot of ammo from two large matches and my personal chrono. Is this reflective of the sample size; lighting conditions; bad chrono; temperature; or combination? I QC’d this ammo very closely so I have a high degree of confidence in the OAL and consistent charge weight but I could be the factor, of course.

My results are also very different than my experience with N320 in 9mm - always very consistent. I’m nervous to head to Nationals and not make PF. Given my charge weight, I’m equally nervous to increase further. My load is a 180 grain coated lead ACME FP at 1.185” and 4.9 grains N320.

Section match: ES of 34, avg PF 167, ~74 degrees, 3 shots, actual bullet weight 178.6 grains.

Area match: ES of 3, avg PF 176, ~94 degrees, 3 shots, actual bullet weight 180 grains.

My chrono: ES of 108, avg PF 172, ~39 degrees, 20 shots, assumed weight of 180

My chrono: ES of 93, avg PF 168, ~64 degrees, 20 shots, assumed weight of 180

My tests at lower charge weights were more consistent but still much poorer than when I loaded 9mm.

    Thoughts?

  10. It sounds dumb but are you seating your bullets crooked? I flipped the seating stem so I could use the alternate profile and boom no more failures. Hundo XL with coated bullets at .401.

I have an embarrassing thread explaining my problem and then the simple solution.

  11. I think in terms of accuracy and consistency, Blue Bullets are the worst of any coated I've ever shot. That's not to say they are bad. They work great and are accurate enough for our game. Just when compared to other coated manufacturer's they show larger groups when I don't know what I'm shooting. (I load different bullets into my S2 mags and then don't look which one is going in the gun. That way I can't somehow play favorites when I'm testing)

If they are the worst, what’s the best coated bullet in your testing? Never used blues.
  12. I experienced a similar issue. I also thought I was seating the bullet straight but had the same failure rates as you.

Mr Bullet Feeder powder die was the recommended solution but I resolved cheaper. I flipped the seating stem to the alternate profile and poof, no more failures. It’s worth a shot.

  13.
Ive had similar experiences in the past where I regretted not getting the best I could afford right off the bat.

What Atlas gun did you get?  I’ve been looking at the Titan and Nemesis.  Nemesis looks cool, but the price is up there near SVI.  Are build times really under four months for them?

I ordered a “custom” because I wanted different colors, cuts, and a butler cut but I wouldn’t hesitate to order a Titan. Delivery was under 4 months.
  14. Also, if you guys have any questions you would like to hear addressed on the podcast, you can post them here.

Squaded with you and Joel at 2016 Nationals.

I’d like to hear about your transition from Prod to Limited as I will be starting that journey myself this season (CZ to 2011).
