Anyone have a preference between Beretta's house brand of extended choke tubes verus the Briley variety? I noticed that the Berettas have no teeth for a wrench, which may be a good or bad thing. Just kind of curious, since I have other choke tubes on other systems that tend to shoot loose if you don't wrench them puppies in there.

    Thanks!

in my experience, brileys tend to be a little tighter on the pattern board vs factory..trap I use briley, skeet and sporting clays I use factory.

Ok I am a total wet behind the ears noob when it comes to quality shotguns. I have been shooting some trap with my pistol gripped remmy 100 set up for limited 3 gun.

I dig shooting clays and want to get a dedicated shotgun...looking mostly @ Browning citori or cynergy. I know a O/U will have more recoil than an autoloader...how much differance will it make to get ported vs non ported barrels? I noticed that most of the berreta O/U that are affordable are not ported is it reasonable to assume a ported browning will shoot softer of the two? Also any model suggestions would be great I will be doing trap and clays . Barrel length ??

something else to remember is factory port vs aftermarket port. in international competition, aftermarket ports are prohibited while factory is acceptable.

I personally use an over and under with factory port because that's what my last sponsor gave me...I like the ports because it looks cool...I do NOT notice a difference when shooting.

  3. I shot kolar for a while, until perrazi became an official sponsor. I like them...pretty much the same as perrazi and kriegoff. they all feel like you are swinging a telephone pole.

just remember, the gun doesn't make the shooter. I won way more with a browning ultra xs skeet then I ever did with any of the $10,000+ rigs I mentioned above.

Kids LOVE reactive targets ....

Set up some bowling pins or falling plates, hand them a semi-automatic .22

and they are HOOKED !!!!!    (Come to think of it, so am I, and I'm 72)    :)

Exactly! Anything that keeps them interested!

and the great part about plates every once in a while? You don't have to be pinpoint accurate! It's a great confidence booster for anyone..especially a kid!

  5. Ok, I emailed USPSA and Troy McManus replied

"The grip reduction is not prohibited in CO, nor is the beavertail, but the gun will no longer be legal for Production, should you wish to use it for both divisions.

    Troy"

    so im a go!!

Hey guys, I have a couple of questions for you.  My son, who is 8, has started to take interest in competition shooting. He has shot 22lr a few times both handguns and pistols.  He is skinny and not as tough as other kids his age, yet he is a skilled baseball player as well as a soccer player so he has the athletism on his side.  What calibe would you use to start a kid like him and what pistol? Thanks for your help guys!!

I actually have a pretty good amount of experience in this. I coached junior Olympic shotgun hopefuls for a long time...and recoil and boom is a lot more intimidating there.

my advice is to stick with the 22. this will keep him interested. then  every once in a while let him shoot off a grown up gun. NEVER FORCE IT! I have seen a lot of kids quit because of people forcing it(myself for a while included)

otherwise just have him dry fire, practice dot drills, and get him some grip squeezers and make him a forearm roller to get his grip strength together.

also, get him involved in something like a local 4H shooting club. this way he makes some friends in the community and actually wants to compete.

My STI DVC Open is running like a railroad watch. All three MBX 155's are feeding like a champ. The gun is coming out of my Race Master like greased lightning. I'm looking good in my black Salomon's.

Saturday I step into the box, load and make ready, and my C-More is dead! Oh, the humanity.

or you hear the beep and realize with an audible click that you drunkenly put your stock striker and worn 3lb spring together 2 days prior...I gave up on the first stage...I was just practicing tap rack lol

I guess it's different for everyone.

For me I was 15% faster first time shooting a dot.

    With the same pistol.

my first time with the dot I had trouble finding it. then with pretty minimal practice I was picking it up faster than my irons on the g19...never had a lot of trouble with trasition

For those that have shot both? A few times I have lost my dot during transition or awkward stances around corners etc.

Started out in Carry Optics and never shot USPSA any other way. Just curious as to others thoughts.

I know I need a lot more practice to develop muscle memory for point of aim.

Shot at ORSA yesterday and had a blast! Only 3 guys in CO out of 64 shooters.

at first they do....then with practice, they don't

  10. I have always wanted to do "train like you shoot" or "Hollywood"..just go out there and get all hands on..deliver a little krav maga justice to those mocking carboard bastard targets!!!

I came close to shooting in a duster one time because my range was having a cowboy action day on the same day as a uspsa match and I thought it would be funny if I shot in one....a buddy let me borrow it, and an a_-hole RO(my dad) shot me down before I ever left the tailgate of my truck lol

Although I am not sure what is involved in a grip reduction, it is very clear in the provisional rules that adding a beaver tail is prohibited - see rules at the following link:

    https://uspsa.org/document_library/2017/APPENDIX D7_DNROI_2117.pdf

I scanned through it and didn't see anything prohibiting beavertails. not seeing it wasn't there...I just didn't see it.

I don't see how having a beavertail wouldn't work, since all gen 4 glocks come with a beavertail backstrap that can technically be molded to the gun via the allowed stipple and wouldn't be an issue...

I have always wondered why I haven’t seen many African Americans in the shooting sports? I'll come out right away with the fact that I am 33yr old Black mixed male, i'm an LE in Texas. I've enjoyed shooting as long as i can remember and also reload my own ammunition but I have never competed, and i just wanted to know if there were any on this forum that could give insight if there are actually any AA competitors. I actually live in a decent area were racism isn't as prevalent . But do you think that the common "Stereotypes" for African-Americans would tend to keep them away from the shooting sports along with other ethnic groups. Thanks in advance hoe i didn't offend anyone.

I honestly couldn't give you an answer on that one. I have shot competition shotgun internationally since I was 10 years old, and have done about the same with pistol and rifle. I have seen probably less than 25 regular black shooters, and probably less than 100 blacks just there to try out shooting sports.

I have a fellow officer at work that I want to start shooting USPSA with me, and he is a bit apprehensive about being a black man in public with a gun....even though his full time job is being in public with a gun.

However, I shoot with plenty of other people of color regularly! I have been to match practice and matches here in Texas and have been the only non-Hispanic. Hell, even the people that came with me, including my wife were Hispanic!

  13. I am interested in spending some time away from production, and jump into carry optics for a while.

    QUESTION!

I have a glock 17 that I had built frame up, that is very easy to label as carry optic spec...except the grip! the rules do not fully stipulate the extent of the allowed grip work enough for me to make a decision.

the grip is full on robar grip reduction(no hump), and an added beavertail(also robar)

yall think this would get me kicked into open division?
