    So true.

I believe that things were much better a year or two before the tiger teams.  That's when the game got FUBAR'ed.

I like some of the changes, but back then things seemed way more stable. Now when I shoot a match the SO could be operating under a completely different understanding of the rules.

I hope that you did not!

Are you surprised?  I'm certainly not.

I did not, and not surprised at all.

I know the thread pissed them off but it really helps to see what people across the country are seeing at matches. HQ doesn't like that because they know things aren't don't consistently.

It is no longer required. If anybody says it is then they are out of date with the current state of the sport.

I have an email from my AC which explicitly states that it is ok to pin it.

And there is at least one thread on the IDPA FB group where this is discussed.

I started a thread in a FB group recently because I feel the rule is not worded vary well. Consensus seems to be all the AC's say it's legal. My AC told me the same and then said HQ was pissed about my post and wanted me to remove it.

It does not seem like everyone is 100% on the same page. I have now pinned all my GS's.

You hear a lot about full size 2011 in 9mm “feeling slow.

I've noticed this myself with my 2011's. It makes sense, commander size guns have a shorter stroke, I think .100" not a lot, plus the slide is lighter so it's moving faster. Mine was a 4", I sprung it with 19 hammer and like a 10-11 recoil and at the time shot lighter bullets. Previous to this most of my 2011 shooting was 40 major in 5" guns.

Going to a 5" 9mm gun with 147 gr bullets it felt sluggish to the point I didn't like it. Now for sure the gun is cycling and still waiting on me no matter how fast I pull the trigger. You could maybe make the case that if the gun is waiting on my longer I might perceive that as the gun being flatter even if it's not really. I doubt our brain really knows what's going on in that .05-.06 seconds the gun cycles.

I'm sure if you just shoot the thing a bunch it'll become your new normal and you wont notice it anymore. I chose to try to speed the gun up to change how it felt. So I added a aluminum shock buff to shorten the stroke a little and dropped down to a 17 hammer and 8 recoil spring. Much less noticeable now.

But neither is making me shoot the gun faster or better. It's completely subjective of what feeling I like.

  5. I base it off the condition of the mag when I pick it up. It's not crazy on dry days to not clean any mags all day or even over several matches. But drop one in the mud it probably needs cleaning. One range I shoot at is pretty sandy and that's hell on mags.

Typically I pick the mag up off the ground and manually remove a couple rounds and pay attention to if it feels or sounds gritty, does the round pop up with some force? Is there visible mud or sand in or on the mag? If it's a little questionable I'll empty the match paying attention to how it feels and even work the follower up and down or tap it on a table or similar to try to knock out anything loose. if at that point I think it needs cleaning I clean it. At least with 2011's it's really easy to pop them apart.

Not sure if that was much help but it's what I do. You'll get a feel for what works.

As I said above:  “The sear is a short pre-stoned EGW and the hammer is from Harrison design.  I haven’t touched either one.  They are a good match - there is no creep.”

I checked the contact, too.  Very even.

Just because you buy two things and they don't have any creep doesn't mean the sear is contacting the hammer correctly. That's why I asked. Good luck getting it running.

If you want weight at the front, use a long, wide frame for your build.  Use a bull barrel.

I prefer a balanced gun.  I want it to balance on my weak hand index finger.

Do you base the balance off the gun loaded or unloaded? Maybe partially loaded to split the difference.

  8. I shoot Blues, which historically have always been a little heavy. So I math my PF based on advertised weight which will probably be low and don't worry at all about the bullet weight after that.

If the gun doesn't group I'll try .356 bullets instead of the standard .355. Never needed to do more than that.

    I will try.

1 I lift the gun, looking through the sights at the single plate at 20 yards. Or at the large plate at 50. Or the, well, hopefully you get it...

2 I see the sights and the dot.

    3 I press the trigger.

    Yeesh. It ain't rocket science.

I do love the way you somehow know what I can't do though. That's refreshing.

What some call impossible, others, through trial and testing call intuitive.

To me that sounds like on difficult shots the iron sights are doing a chunk of the work and the laser is just there to confirm. At that point you could just use irons with a target focus (like many of us already do) and get the same result just you loose that laser telling you you're doing it right. One could also make the case that the laser could be a distraction and cause you to focus on it and not a spot on the target you want to hit.

A dot would 100% be better in the above situation.

Right imagine letting that slide for one guy and yeeting the president for the same thing. All the consistency really makes me think everything is good.

I'm in a3 and i am not upset, not even surprised.  I just worry about finding reasonably priced primers.

I'm not in A3, not surprise or really upset. This was obviously coming as soon as he made that motion about Ted and they removed him from the finance committee. I'm a little surprised Frank is still there, but the year isn't over yet.

The guy was caught, then admitted to wrongdoing...what did you expect ?

It's kind of funny he's getting cut for violating 10.2 and leaking info from BOD meetings. But right before that vote, they voted to waive 10.2 going forward and live stream meetings.

I saw a screen shot of a funny email from A6D saying he voted to remove A3. It's funny because the email came out before the meeting minutes. So he broke 10.2 about a vote to remove a AD for breaking 10.2

It'd be fun to watch if this wasn't all so damaging to the org. Seems a lot of A3 is pissed, which considering how things have turned out for the last couple guys they elected I can understand why they might want to bail.

  13. I setup a 2011 holster last night with the thinnest spacers I had and it measures pretty much exactly 3" maybe a 1/6th heavy depending how you put the tape against my body.

I don't really plan to shoot that gun though. I'll try to make my Rival holster legal next. I think it's going to be tough because

of the shape of the kydex.

Your first sentence is a very valid point. As to your second sentence, I had the opportunity to compare my plastic gripped 9mm 2011 (38 oz) with my 50+ oz 40 minor steel-gripped 2011 the last couple weeks. I don't think the heavy gun really needs that much weight, but I don't think it hurts much either, whereas the plastic gun definitely bounces more and is slower on steel and longer shots just because of the extra dot movement.

It would be interesting to add 4-6 oz to the plastic gun and see if that made it perfect.... but the heavy gun feels perfect enough to me that I'm just going to sell the plastic one. Of course I have shot a LOT of rounds through the heavy gun, so it feels far more familiar and comfortable to me coming back to it after 6 months than a new gun with 1-2k through it. Individual tastes may vary.

I'm sure just like the old days in limited we'll see folks buying inexpensive guns to get started in the sport for a year or two, but just like the old days in limited, the vast majority of serious shooters will be using high-end high-dollar equipment.

Yeah, I don't think I'd say heavy really hurts much more than the wallet and maybe my back walking around with it all day. You get used to it and can swing it around no problem IMO.

I did similar testing a couple months back with two vary similarly setup guns. Shooting doubles at 15, 50 rounds each. But my light gun weights in the low 40's which is pretty close to that extra 4-6 oz you mentioned. When I was done I had slightly better results with the lighter gun but it was so close I'm not sure it really mattered or if I did it again the results couldn't flip.

My takeaway was it's so similar save my money and my back ache and skip going past about 43-45 oz for a LO gun. But knowing me I'll revisit this in another year thinking maybe that's the edge I need. But, it's not. lol.

Funny that Tier 1 Matches must take everything except PCC while higher levels can be more choosy.

I assume that is because there are likely still some ranges out there that wont let you shoot rifles on their pistol bays. Instead of turning those ranges away you just carve out a little exemption for them.

i made M with a bone-stock edge, but my wife and I both made a noticeable improvement in match results when we got better limited guns with heavier grips, lighter triggers, lighter slide and more accuracy.

But even without measurable performance improvement, people will still buy expensive guns because most people find them more pleasurable to own, handle, shoot and work on.

That makes sense, I'm sure shooting a 40 adding 10 oz to the gun made it feel better and easier to shoot. I'm not really convinced that a 50+ oz 9mm is going to be better then a lighter plastic gripped 2011. But, you can easily take a prodigy and add a weighted flashlight and get it close to 50 oz. A Brass magwell on top of that could get you to 60 I'd bet. If that's your cup of tea. My 2011's for LO are low to mid 40's. But, I'm weird I shot plastic grips in Limited too. I made GM on a 4" home built 2011 with a plastic grip built for IDPA CCP.

But, in the end you're right people will spend the money.

A guy had what most would consider a race rig set up that you would not wear if concealment was a consideration , 1” spacer between holster and belt attachment to bring the gun out where it feels best, at a level three match in November. He was told it was not legal by match officials and then got that overturned on appeal.

I think the organization realized that the rule as written was unenforceable. Could just be coincidence and the need for clarity might have already been recognized, but I have been wondering how and when they would address that issue.

The concealment concept has gotten pretty weird in general since IDPA is now also a rifle sport.

I think it was being enforced inconsistently too. I've talked to people in other areas that their AC allowed Boss hangers with spacers while our AC does not. So it depended where you shot how this rule applied. It sounds like at nationals guys coming from areas it was allowed were surprised at equipment check.

This rule will be more enforceable.

The biggest danger for LO is turning into another $5K+ custom gun division.

Yeah, Nils could win it with a stock Canik, but he won Limited with one too.

It is not as popular as CO, around here but getting close.

The plus is now with the prodigy at 1.2-1.4k and the Girsan at 1k, and I hear Tisas might make one. The Apollo 11 is just under 1k. Then there are a few more better options in the 2k range. This really isn't much more than shooting a Shadow 2 in CO.

It gets someone in the game with a gun they can build up the way they want. People will line up to spend 1k in upgrades to a 1,200 dollar gun faster then they will to buy a 2,200 dollar gun for some reason.

But I agree, i hope it doesn't get the reputation of being like open and needing $$$ to play.

  19. I hate it....it makes it to hard to decide what to shoot. IF LO didn't exist, next year I'd shoot my Canik in CO. But, now I can shoot that same canik in CO or add a magwell and shoot LO. Or I can bust out one of my 2011's which I shoot just a tiny bit better anyway and shoot LO.

    The struggle is real.

I'm a very superstitious individual from my baseball playing days. I need the same Gatorade flavors, same brand of ear plugs, can't shoot a round that's touched the ground.

Doing this the same way every time can also be a mental preparation thing and not superstition. There are lots of things I do in vary specific ways, but they're backed up by logic and learning from experience. Not a concern over luck.

  21. I measured my holster this morning for my Canik Rival. It's currently on my USPSA rig I just switch it to a different hanger for IDPA until I get a 2nd holster. Pointing that out as I haven't yet measured my IDPA rig.

Anyway the holster body itself measures 2-1/8" it's noting fancy, just a basic RHT holster. In fact at one point I headed it up and "adjusted" it a bit to make the gun sit closer to the body. Tweaking where the hanger attached. Any, I've got about 7/8" to play with for my hanger.

Measuring from my body, my CO legal USPSA rig measures 4". Boss hanger with spacers. But the double belt is adding some to that number.

I'm shooting a major in 3 weeks I guess I need to get this sorted out soon. Anyone measured their rigs yet?
