  1. If the whole 5 shots is one string, and you can't definitively say which shot was intended to be the head shot, you have to score the target as you see it.

But what does scoring the target as you see it mean when it's a limited stage? Normally you score the best shots on a target. On a limited stage, you effectively score the worst shots on a target. So, if you have three hits on a target that should only have two, which two do you choose to score?

If it's multiple strings, and head shots were required on earlier strings, you *should* be taping over dropped shots as they happen.

Sure, but since the whole point of limited scoring is to avoid taping and scoring between strings, you can see how this might not happen.

On a limited stage, you score all shots. Generally if the stage is limited to 5 shots, all 5 shots are required, so all 5 shots must be scored. Not just the best shots on target.

If a head shot is required, and you drop down in the -1 generally it is taped to help the SO's keep track of the shots. That shot is a miss as it was supposed to be a head shot so it's a -5 weather you tape it or not.

  2. 3. In lieu of the use of ammunition carriers, spare magazines

(2), speedloaders (3) and moon clips(3) used in a CoF may be

carried in the contestant’s pockets and used for any IDPA legal

    reload.

That says it there, at least how I read it. "In Lieu of" means instead of. So in the case of revolvers it says

Instead of the use of ammunition carriers, speed loader (3) used in CoF may be carried in the contestants pockets.

And I would say where it says speed loader (3) it is pointing out you are limited to a total of 3 speed loaders.

  3. IDPA rules allow you to carry the 3rd speedloader you are allowed, in a lower vest pocket. On a mandatory TAC/RWR reload the simplest method, IMHO, is to dump everything in the strong hand... deposit into the strong hand lower vest pocket where your 3rd speedloader lives.. and come out with that speedloader. Others may have differing opinions... but that procedure requires minimal movement... and movement equals time..

For GOF I believe his 3th speedloader lives in his pocket. Keyword lives.

Others that are reading this just remember the Addendum, There is no doing it just for this stage, and holster it for the next.

    3. Competitors may mix carry methods (one in a pocket

and one on the belt) but they must use the same method

of carry for the entire match. Changing their carry

method to fit the CoF will result in a FTDR.

Never mind I found it, page 39. I'll have to play with this, the last sanctioned match I went to required revolver shooters to do a RWR to engage target's properly in two stages. I got a PE for round dumping for trying to get around one of them. lol.

Round dumping as defined by the current rules is never a PE it is always an FTDR. You got lucky. Not as lucky as you would have been if I was the SO. If I was the SO you would have gotten an atta' boy for verifying the previous shot by following it up with another well placed shot. The later tactical makeup shot is perfectly legal under the current book. My future fu tells me that round dumping will be legal in the next book. Dont quote me, just a tactical guess.

    Game on....

I agree I was lucky to not get a FTDR. Although doesn't the book say something about not requiring a RWR during a course of fire too?

I learned my lesson, and will be doing RWR in the future. I do hope they change that rule, as it's funny how on some stages everyone reloads in the same place that just happens to be the best place to reload. Just makes it suck a little more if you get a FTDR for something almost everyone at the match probably did at some point. And from what I've seen, the better the shooter the more likely he will need to "make up" a bad shot at some point.

I think my 3rd speed loader will now live in the pocket too, I never liked it back behind my holster anyway.

  4. What page does it say you are allowed to carry your 3rd speed loader in a lower vest pocket?

I'm not doubting you, I just want to look it up as I may start doing that. That sounds like a good idea for RWR. I just want to know where to look to in the book to defend myself if questioned by a SO.

  5. I was thinking shot to shot also. I did some drills the other day, and was getting alot around the 2.7 mark.

I did recently classifiy as MA, but I've yet to really shoot against any other masters to get a idea of where I stand. I want to figure out what area's I need to improve the most.

2.2 sounds crazy fast, gives me something to shoot for.

  6. What is considered a good time to shoot for when reloading with speed loaders? I mainly shoot IDPA, so 99% of my reloads are standing still and I can't move until I finish. I've tried some searches but most things I've found are talking about reload time is related to moon clips.

  7. I've been working on my reloads a lot, as I figure shooting a revovler that's a big place to save time. I'm shooting IDPA SSR with a 686 and jet loaders.

Over the weekend I shot a match and didn't have a good reload all day. Trying to figure out my problems.

The 1st problem is with the rounds not dropping into the cyl all the way. This would really cost me some time. I thought I just wasn't getting the gun vertical enough during the load. But, on one stage I had the gun vertical and they wouldn't fall. So I hit them with my thumb and continued. This seems to be happening more and more lately. Almost never happens in dryfire.

    - I think I've been slacking on cleaning the gun. So I'm going to give the cyl a real good scrubbing. I also wonder if it could have to do with my reloads. The brass has been used several times. I could screw my sizing die down a little more. It's set per the instructions, screwed down till it touched the shell holder and then backed off x ammount.

The other problem I noticed is the loaders seemed harder to trigger then when practicing. Like I get it in then push down and it would take me a second to get it to release.

My only thoughts on this was could it be the differance in temp on the plastic loader? Cold out side shooting vs warm indoor dryfire?

Or is it from me using the same dummy rounds over and over again that they just release really smoothly?

I played with a timer that day and it was taking me 4.25 sec's to reload. And I can do under 3 in dry fire.

Maybe I'm just practicing wrong, or it was pressure of shooting. Any thought on what I should try?
