  1. I suggest buying a used Czechmate to try Open, if you decide it's not for you, you can likely sell it for close to what you paid for it.

Are you reloading? If not, you don't really get the benefit of the comp.  Shooting factory ammo, I suggest you just bolt a dot to your TSO and give it a try.

Invariably you'll love it because Open is awesome, then you'll buy $2,000 worth of reloading gear, $5,000 worth of guns, then spend $10,000 developing your own comp 😁

Has anyone ever experienced rimlock with a Tanfolgio in .38 Super?

I haven't yet, nor have I started loading my own yet but I'm kind of torn on sticking with what's working or buying SC brass.

    It shouldn't be a problem shooting 38SC in a 38Super Gold Team; I've shot a 9mm barrel in a .40 slide without issue

  3. It sounds like you already know you're nuts, so at least we have that established 👍

I get that you want to wet tumble your brass, but why aren't you wet tumbling it before you size it?  Do you dry tumble before you lube/size them? or are they still dirty from firing at that point?

  4. Do yourself a favor and find a reloader who lives near you and load a few hundred rounds on their machine (if you're in San Diego you can use mine).

I learned to load on a friend's 550, so I bought a 650.  The 550->650 step is more significant than the 650->1050 step.

In the reloading math above, the cost of the machine should not considered an expense, but an asset with minimal depreciation.  Dillon machines hold their value well (even appreciate over some periods of time).

But there’s also a few GM/M class shooters that will never offer a helping had out of the fear of competition. Which IMO is dumb.

Do you really think they fear you'll beat them if they give you some pointers?  Even if they tell you that, it's probably not true.

I can think of a handful of alternative reasons:

-they want to focus on their own performance

-they offer instruction as a side business and don't want to give a private class to the whole squad for free

-perhaps, they feel you're approaching them with an attitude of entitlement

  6. Please don't go to all the trouble/expense of picking up 38sc brass just to load something you could shoot out of a 9mm case.  38 has more case capacity, so use it!

N105, Shooters World Major Pistol, AA9, use 11+gr of powder and get that comp working 😈

Kneelingatlas-what would you recommend for a 115 gr FMJ Precision Delta and WAC for my CZ Czechmate? Assuming I do nothing but run two different bullets and OAL?

What do I recommend for an OAL?  You're going to need to determine that with your own barrel, if you want to load longer the tool is called a "throater", send me a PM if you need help getting it done.

  8. Full sized guns without holes shouldn't have problems with pressure using WAC under 124s, you should be fine at whatever length passes the chamber check and cycles reliably.

That being said, I've found round nosed bullets like the Montana Gold CMJ to cycle more reliably than JHPs in my CZ Open guns.  I also prefer lighter bullets and slower powders (I load 10.5gr Shooters World Major Pistol under a 115).

  9. That's looking great!  The heart shaped ports (or butts if you prefer) came from Eric Davis, the I squared off the first and added the last.

The Open division needs more Czechnology!

As far as ammo, I’m pretty lazy and don’t reload. I know it’ll save me a ton of money but I just don’t really have the time with work, school and family.   I talked to PT and they said precision deltas .40 works great which is what I’ve been using. But does anyone know if it’ll eat any type of 9mm?

When I fist started in this sport, I really wanted and Open gun, but didn't want to reload; fast forward eight years and I wonder why I didn't start earlier.

It's not as much about saving money as it is unleashing the potential of this awesome machine you have.

Putting factory ammo in a $6,000 race gun is like putting pump gas in a dragster: sure you can tweak it to function and get down the track, but you'll never know what it can do until you feed it the best fuel.

Also to help me decide on the 2011, anyone like to recommend a compensator for 9mm major? I dont know much about them, so all advice welcome.

The Binary Engineering CFD Comp   is the best lightweight comp for 2011 Eric Davis also makes a good comp, but only in stainless.

I'd like to keep it short, if possible, and even spring for titanium, to keep the weight off the nose.

Even though it's long, the comp above only weighs 1.8oz and most of that weight is in the rear, so it feels very light in the swing, although mid-length guns with full dust covers are all the rage right now, my favorite 2011 was a "super shorty" with a 4.4" barrel, a plastic grip, and a Ti Comp:

am I correct that they only really work with 9mm major?

I assume you've read comments like "you need to load major to work the comp", while most people associate 9 minor with "production" loads (eg 3ish grains of a fast powder under a 135/147gr bullet) and fast powders don't take advantage of compensators like slow powders do, anything with a power factor under 165 or a bullet weight under 112gr is technically minor, so yes, it is possible to load awesomely flat minor loads, but it doesn't offer much advantage as you don't get any more capacity.  Comps need large charges of slow powder, for more on that topic, check out this thread:
