Is your gun a full length?
I had to use 10.0gr of AA7 @ 1.160 with 124 MG CMJ out of my V6 Middy Akai to get 170PF. It wasnt as flat as my HS-6 loads at 170pf and it was more violent upon the slide returning.
From the pictures they look like mid length.

Nice!!! You'll definitely have to post some pictures when it's done. Any idea when you'll get it?
No, not yet. Still figuring out what I want to do. It will be a middy for sure but still have not decided on a final style.

Do you already have something in process with Don? I only ask because he posted on Facebook that he's not currently taking on any new work.
But I'm all for more pictures, he does great stuff!!
I am in the queue.

Anymore pictures from Venom owners? Looking for inspiration for new open rig.

Folks do do it. I am sure others with more knowledge will chime in.

Thank you for the input.
Yes, I like the look of the Atlas and Akai rigs with the full length DC's.

I want to have a new open rig built and like the look of the full length dust cover with maybe a Butler cut.
I know this really comes down to personal preference...ok...and does add a bit of weight out front...but I think the long look of the full dust cover is more “modern” looking.
My current open rig has a gov length dust cover.
So please post your thoughts....points added if you shoot one with a FL dust cover.

Had a blue buff in my rig for over 4000 rounds now. Looks like new still. Knock on wood, never a issue with the gun not running 100%.
I am in CA and frames/open guns are extremely hard to come from so I want to protect the frame any way I can to prolong the life of it. YMMV.

Check what is posted above. If all checks out, install a lighter recoil spring. The pistol is heavier now and might be soaking a bit more recoil.
-
I use a 10# spring and a shock-buff.
My load is 10.1 gr. of AA#7 and 124 gr MG JHP’s. This gives me about 173pf and is very flat for me.

If you call STI they will give you the history.

Great info! Thank you.

I received the holster today and the grip will go part way in. However, it cannot be locked. Nor that I have the holster in my hand and can see how it works, I think there is an easy fix. Unfortunately, Steve left for the weekend, so I'll call him on Monday to talk over the mods before I do anything.
Here is what I think is happening. When I insert one of my STI grips, the arm containing the retaining ball is fully compressed and the lock engages easily. The top of the holster is a hair breadth away from touching the grip behind the trigger guard. When I insert the e2 grip, the top of the holster hits the grip behind the trigger guard and it cannot be inserted fully. The arm does have additional room to move, so I'm pretty sure taking material off the top of the Delrin block will do the trick. Matt told me he had to do that to some DAA Magnetic blocks to get the grip to latch.
After I talk to Steve, I'll try that and post back if that is the cure.
Thank you for the update. Please let me/us know what the “fix” is once you know.
Have a good weekend.

Update. I was shooting with a guy using the original Universal Shooting Academy holster. This is the holster that Everglades recreated. My e2 grip locked fine in the USA holster. I wrote to Everglades and they said they had tested the Cheely grip and they fit. I ordered one. Steve said it probably would fit, but if not to let him know and he would look into modifications to make it fit. I'll know in less than a week.
Please post an update when you receive it.

It will not. You can insert it and the ball detent engages, but you cannot lock it in the trigger guard is a hair too long. I don't know if the holster or the trigger guard could me modified to make it work. I only got to try it at a safe table with another shooters holster. Matt was unaware of the Everglades holster, so he was not able to help. Too bad. I really wanted one. My e2 will function in a DAA STI block, but not ideally. The SVI Steel block is better, but a little tight side-to-side. That's an easy fix.
Thank you. Good to have some hands on input.

Anyone know if the E2 will work with Everglades holster?

I always wonder about the comments of with 9 you do not have to pick up brass.
Only to hear “I shoot 9mm range brass”?
So is someone else else picking up the brass off you?

Looking at a used open rig built by Honu Custom
I tried searching the name, but came up with nothing. So I am hoping someone here will have some info about them.
thanks

I was planning on picking up a 2-3 frames (2011 style) and like the Cheely open gun model so going to get one of those for sure. But for the others, I am open.
So what is your favorite frame, and why?

JHP’s and clean often. I.e....don’t let fouling build up.

Thanks folks. Not looking to chase flatness at this point. Again, very new to open. It was the first time I had video of the rig from the side and thought I would post it up. Seems pretty flat to me when I am holding onto it correctly.
The gun runs 100% so I am not going to change anything at this point. I just need to practice. At 50 I know my go fast days are behind me, so I just shoot for fun.

So I hear a lot about how flat a given gun shoots when it comes to open rigs. I am a total new open gun shooter and this video is from the forth time shooting this rig. I know my grip make a big difference. In fact you can see my last shot had a bit of a dip and I owe that to my grip as I was about to exit the shooting position.
That being said...it looks pretty flat to me...what do you folks think? I know the dot never leaves my view...if I am doing my part and seems to go straight up and comes back to where I started.
Anyways...again...all new to open. About the rig....it is a 20 year Briley El Presidente in 38SC that I "modernized" with new sight, grip, racker, etc. Load is 10gr of AA7, 124gr MG, Starline brass, and Fed small primers.

Magazine spring life
in Open Pistols

Bevan Grams once told me when I was wanting to buy new mag springs, that I should replace the mag springs every 4000-5000 LOADINGS of the magazine. Yeah....that is quiet a long time.
Take this info for what you paid paid for it.
