  1. Hi gang.

I recently put a couple of AR's together. One based on a 18" JP CTR-02 upper and a 16" Douglas barrel in a Seekins upper/lower set.

I have used Bartlien, Krieger, JP, etc., barrels before but never a Douglas barrel. But it was the only barrel I could find currently other then plain mil-spec types.

Does anyone have any experience with Douglas AR barrels? Good, bad, average, etc.?

The barrel is a mid length gas, light Reccon contour. I am using a JP adjustable gas block, coupled with a JP LMOS BCG and LMOS buffer and tuned spring.

Next...I currently have a Leupold VX-6 Multigun scope on the 18", but want to move that to the 16". I have been looking at the new Bushnell 1-8.5X and the Leupold Mark 6 1-6X to put on the 18". I know the Bushy is just released, but a, hoping someone has some first hand knowledge on either scope.

The Bushy just seems big and heavy 26oz I think the specs say vs the Luepold at 18oz.

    Thank in advance, Stan

  2. Please excuse my ignorance on this subject. I am starting to collect gear for 3 gun matches, but am having a heck of a time with finding a shotgun. I have done some basic searching on this subject, but am still coming up dry. Why is the 1100 poo pooed for three gun? Reliability problems? Gas operated?

I ask because one of the local shops has a 20" model with extended mag, over sized bolt handle, etc. And I can not find a Benelli, Mossberg 930, etc., to save my life.

So I am wondering if the 1100 would be "ok" as a stepping stone rig until I can pick up a M2 or something else.

    Thanks for the input, Stan

  3. Well I have decided I "need" a progressive loader. My son has decided he wants to start shooting steel matches with me and maybe USPSA as well so now my ammo usage is doubling. I have been looking at the 650 or Hornady ammo plant. Mostly the 650.

My problem is I live in a condo with only a one car garage so my space is limited. I tried searching for this topic but did not find anything. So my question is does anyone use a small(er) rolling type...think tool box type...bench/table or have any suggestions on space limited setups for the 650 size presses?

    Take care,Stan

  4. I had one of the "2nd gen" models. Had a .308 and .243 barrel. I only shot the .308 a few times....308 is kinda boring to me. But had a ball shooting 115 DTAC's from the .243 barrel at 1000 yards.

I was pleasantly surprised by the trigger. When I ordered it I was worried it would not be a very good trigger and I like clean, crisp, light triggers on my long range rids.

Once you spend a bit of time behind one, the ergonomics kinda grow on you. I find the SRS to be very well balanced and very comfortable to shoot prone. I say pick one up and give it go.

    Take care,Stan

PS...and they are very compact even with the 26" barrels. The attached pic shows mine with the .243 barrel next to a 16" AR.

  5. For my AR's I use JP mounts. I have a HDMR in a 34mm model on a 18" JP-15 and a 30mm waiting to go on my 18" CTR-02 whenever I decide on what scope for it. This will be my multi gun setup and I am having a heck of a time figuring out what to go with.

  6. Do you want flutes cuz they look cool? I would recommend a JP barrel and one of there "thermal dissapators" (heat sink). That way you have a light weight barrel, but far better cooling then a fluted barrel. Oh...and they shoot VERY well too!

  7. Good choice! Tikka's are hard to beat for the price. I have owned 4. Two Lite models. One in 223 and one in .243 that I chopped down to 16 1/2" and was my main coyote rifle for awhile. A Tactical model in .308 and with the now unable to get anymore 24" barrel.

The .223 is now my main varmint rifle and I have swapped out the factory bottom "metal" so it now accepts AI mags.

And I used a T3 action for a 1000 yard build. Chambered in 6.5X47 in a KRG Whiskey 3 chassis. Fantastic shooter...see pic.

There is a lot more options and aftermarket support for the Tikka's now days. Not sure what kind of stock your looking for but Helmick Arms makes some very nice ones. As well as B&C for a hunting stock.

Have fun with the new rifle.

    Take care,Stan
