Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. In Foghorn's review he shot the 21 & 41 side-by-side and said the 21was very slightly softer shooting - the slide is about 3oz. heavier than the 41. His review conclusion was positive but the rub was longer sight radius vs slightly softer shooting.
  2. Anyone with a Comp Tac 34 holster to test fit the 41?! I'm a blink away from picking the one up at my lgs and Sunday is my birthday! Waiting to hear from Mark at Summit if he has LEO mags in stock. Having a holster that fits would be a plus and maybe the push over the edge!!
  3. Yes - really a great match! Tyler's surprise was a first for me as well - WOW, have not seen that before! The water stations and mandatory break were nice touches - I'm used to bringing the fluids! At 90+ a few more pop ups would have been nice.... I'll be back for October - maybe some indoor/outlaw in between.
  4. 15 x 10 double bullseye paper target at 100. I was done with the AR for the day and the last target didn't see much action so rather than make the walk during a cease fire loaded my Glock 34, did some rough calculations and started lobbing 147 9mm at it. I shot one mag (17 +1) and it was hard to tell with the spotting scope but when I brought it in the 9mm was easy to tell from the 5.56 - I had 8 hits, They were all over the friggin target but that was my 1st attempt at a long pistol shot. If I had some open property I'd do more and try farther - maybe mount a red dot on a 9 or 40 for giggles!
  5. Yeah LFT - I took note of that as well. In the initial reconfiguring (before I got the tall block) one member suggested swapping the 45* rails front to back looking for QC problems and indeed they were not uniform. In that configuration the rear sight was far right and maxed out for adjustment. The swap brought the front sight a good bit from L to R. Elevation was still off and also maxed out. Now elevation is right on and adjustable for distance - fully useful. I'm going to flip the 45* rails front to back again which should push the front a good bit left allowing me to get off the far left fear sight adjustment. In the long run I'll probably replace the 45 rails. I bought cheap and the QC is obvious. I'll post the change. Truth is even adjusted far L rear I had a great day at the range with everything working. Being in refinement mode feels a lot better than 'WTF nothing's working' mode!!
  6. Sees Sights - got to thank you for pointing me to the BTE (Battle Tested Engineering) and their (line of) Rail Height Gas Block. Talked to George, the founder, after looking at cheaper alternatives BUT he's selling adjustable gas blocks made in the US for under $50 and growing a small company for all the right reasons. Interesting new products coming soon. I changed out the set screw so I could make changes with pliers on the fly and not cut the Magpul guard. A hex head would work as well. Rear sight is forward on rail for clearance issues so I pushed the front rail and sight forward to gain some 'line of sight' it's tight but if it catches or gets in the way I'll move it back. looks 'hinkey' but shoots nicely! The high gas block and low sight are in place and the 45* BUIS are working great. The rear was a tight fit and Mr. Dremel took care of that. Got a 2 Gun match to try out the setup on the 28th. Thanks to all. PICS
  7. Every major USPSA match in 2012 used, or will use Time-Plus. While hit-factor is still possible in USPSA, San Angelo is no longer allowed and no one uses it. Mimimum calibers for IMGA/Outlaw/USPSA is consistent in the three divisions your guns would be suitable for (Open, Scope-Tac, Limited)...9mm for pistol, .223 for rifle and 20 guage for shotgun. Set up the way you described, Scope-Tac is the division you will want. Most people shoot 9mm, .223 and 12 guage in Scope-Tac. Scope-Tac and Tactical are interchangeable depending on which ruleset is used. The 930 is 12g - major, yes? I'm not bad with the Glock 22 but shoot the 34 in IDPA a lot. The AR is a given. So minor, major, minor or Major, major, minor - yes? I get time plus. NP. As a noob it's really a moot point - time to get my feet wet and not embarrass myself ( too much). Tempted to post pics but I'm pretty sure everyone knows the units! TYVM!
  8. Thanks Denise. I should have asked sooner - not that I'll stop reading the rules and combing results. I'm better with the 34 than the 22 by a bit so that's probably a wash. Love the San Angelo angle too!
  9. Okay - this post ( while intersting) is a bit drifty so I'll do the noob wade in. I vowed to shoot multi gun in 2012 - maybe Rolla, MO in the fall. Here's a basic I'm not getting. If one gun is minor is ones whole score minor or is scoring per gun and averaged? I can bring a glock 34 or 22 (minor, major) A mossberg 930 - 7+ 1 and Williams sights (major) And a 223 / 556 AR with a 1-4 scope and canted BUIS Etc. ( minor) No way I can avoid minor in rifle without laying out big bucks ( for me) or bringing the SKS (haha). Can someone tell me the short story - I've been doing it the slow way (reading rules) for some time now. Do two majors and a minor = all minor? The wearing of the dunce cap or- well, what!? Thanks in advance. BTW I'm shooting a lot of club IDPA, shotgun and some two gun matches so maybe I'm noob+. Or maybe not!
  10. Yep the PMC was available here too-lots of sales over the 4 th long wknd. I opted for Fed Am Eagle 556 for 6.99 / 20. I've been finding FAE 9 in 147 and 40 in 180. Shooting FAE in matches more. All have been consistent and outshoot Brand Name Federal side by side and always cheaper as the bargain line. I try and keep in front of the curve and not get to the desperate need of a round and am still doing okay not reloading and catching relative bargains.
  11. +1 on that. I was pleased that the chokes from my old Mossberg 500 fit the gun and I have had no trouble filling in the gaps. Full sets are available as well. http://www.mossberg.com/products/access.asp?type=chokes&section=access
  12. Yep - that makes perfect sense - - now! Am I the only one that thinks this would make a good 'sticky' post?? Maybe in a concise form. I doubt that (even in the big city) any shop will have a gas block on the shelf at a fair price. I'd work on this today - a few calls may be in order. The sight - not a hard find but I doubt gas blocks are probably not a hot on the shelf item.
  13. As you can see I was in the same camp as you initially. Real world function seems to be proving otherwise. I'll raise the gas block then replace the sight (it's low gas block specific) if necessary THEN all possible deviations will be eliminated (beyond human error and Q C). If the sights do not align at that point I will have to go with the only remaining possible conclusion - THE GUN IS HAUNTED. I'll continue to write up changes. As I said earlier I know more people that like the setup and will probably make a similar change in the future. I can't imagine that I'm the first but if both planes and sights MUST be at the same height then it would be good to be able to post that with confidence.
  14. I'm glad that this is getting sorted out - I know more folks planning to make this change in the future. FYI- The only Dremel action was taking material off the inside of the rear sight to clear the scope. Nothing to do with the sight alignment issue. I now can visualize the two different axis (plural is? - exit, axes) that the sights rotated on. I'm set to get a rail height gas block heading my way tomorrow - done deal. Considering how close I've gotten I hope that the gas block may push the sightline up enough to get to zero. If not then I will purchase a full height front sight. I might have tried the sight first but what I have are a matched pair and that may be a silly thing to hold onto but the gas block is a stand alone AND I have the option of adding adjustment to the gas system for just a few bucks more. Thanks to all for the discussion and brain power. My BFA and MFA have served me well - in certain OTHER areas.
