Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Go to your search engine an put in .40 S&W IPSC loads list ! There are a few loads for 200gr an N320 . All I shoot are 200s an I have tried alot of different powders. I like Solo ,231 an WSF with 200gr easy to make major an they shoot smooth! N340 works well but cost twice as much as the others.
  2. I have tried all of these bullets above still have quite a few in my shop .All shoot very good for me some are a little dirty on the fingers an some smoke a little more.No smoke with the bayou these bullets are great but if your going to have to wait for 10 weeks to get them you need to get at least 5000 to make the wait worth it! One thing about it is Donnie does not charge your card until he ships them!Precision 185 are great also.BBI BC an Billy shoot great but gets you fingers very black loading them! MG great an always available ! Like Zero better but hard to get! After shooting black powder for 10 years in CAS I do not notice any smoke or smell ?
  3. Solo 1000 is not a good powder for 200gr jacketed bullets ! It is hard enough making major with 180 jacketed! I have Made it with 5.0 of 231.
  4. I have loaded 200gr lead with 231! The Lyman 47th edition list 200gr lead 4.0 to 5.5 . I can make major with 4.0 out of a 5 inch STI gun . Hope this helps!
  5. I agree with Neomet . I have been shooting Solo 1000 for a long time in shotgun an all kinds of pistols.I have some that is years old an I can get 925 fps on 4.7 1.145 coal but I have some fresh stuff an It takes me 5 gr to get to 925 an showing pressure signs in an STI edge!I have tried 1.170 coal an the fps go's down!I like VV powders but do not like the price much! WSF has worked better for me with jacketed bullets! As said above solo works great with moly bullets!
  6. Start off with 4 gr VV340 for a 200 gr lead bullet! That should put you close to 800 fps out of a 5 inch barrel. Watch for pressure signs when going up with your load!
  7. 4.7 of solo is a great load with 180 gr . I have used this load with alot of different bullets MG ZERO IMI Precision Bear Creek all have worked well . COAL from 1.125 to 1.175 no problems ..
  8. I have used about 4 lbs of power pistol with 180s it burns hot ! I do not like it with lead bullets I get alot of lead in the barrel ! With MT or Zero works well but when you push it over 6 gr the recoil starts to really kick in ! Last time I shot some I loaded 5.8gr good shooting but not near as good as solo or 320 for me ! I have 4 pounder I would like to get rid of ...
