Does the CK grip only come with a white insert? Or can you get black?
I have only ever seen white.
-
I weighed my CK gun before and after the steel grip- i think it added 10 ounces.hmmm... Well I do have a combination of STI/SV magazines.... Curious to know about the trigger bow on the CK grips... I'm not sure I like the texture as much, it doesn't look as aggressive, I like something that will chew my hands up, it also dosen't mention how much the CK grips weigh etc ;/ anyone know?
Also it seemed that the CK grip is more for STI triggers. Like any grip however, you can fit an SVI bow, which is what I did.

My new favorite 40 major load is a 200 gr .400 Ibejiheads with 3.55gr Clays at 1.20" OAL.. about 168 PF in my 5" 2011 with a KKM barrel.
-
I went with this trigger. It required a lot of fitting. The shoe was not the problem. The bow is taller and thicker so I will not use it as it is past my level of comfort. Looking to go the SVI route also but wondering if the bow has the same dimensions as the STI one.
The SVI bow is dimensionally longer, front to back, and that hump towards the back is taller. I had to sand the top/ bottom of the hump and do some creative bending front-to-back to get it to work in my 2011.

Lol yea really man.. Sheeshdude, seriously stop trying to bump your post count. if you want classified access just be patient... it will come.

I have the .40L and it is too tight to really accept the .401 coated bullets. I ordered a case of .400 and they all drop in fine, a few need a little push to check, but not too bad.

This is by memory, so take it for what it's worth. I thought they had to be 115-125grs at pf between 115 n 125 pf. Don't have my rule book with me. Suggest you look and make sure what it says for the calibration ammo
9MM is "recommended" The ammunition, as fired through each designated handgun, should achieve a power factor between 115.0 and 125.0.
I can't swear to it, but most calibration ammo is going to be 115-124 GRNs.
You can make 115-125PF with many weights of bullets.... it all depends what the guy making calibration ammo has on hand i would guess..

did you select a non-default color? It is possible they don't have every bullet in every color available to ship that day.
I have experienced very fast shipping times before they offered many colors, sometimes now when I order a color which is not their default, the ship time is a little longer, but not that long. -
my guess: 2.7 or 2.8 gr.. load up a few at 2.7, 2.8, 2.9 and I think you'll find what you are looking for.
I used to load 147gr plated with 3.1 grains for about 132PF. -
feed dies only.. i would just buy a whole setup, I don't think you would save much trying to buy most of the other parts..
sell the mr bullet feeder mini on here - i think that is your best bet

I've had good luck with MG JHPs in 38 super at 1.235" OAL in STI mags (Grams follower/Dawson base pads) as well as with MBX mags.
Another thought - I gather that you are hand stripping the rounds and not feeding them through a gun?
When you get your gun try hand cycling your dummy rounds at 1.235" through the gun. The slide will strip the rounds off crisply and the second round down should snap up crisply if all is working right.
It is hard to replicate all the nuances and dynamics of what is happening by stripping the rounds out by hand.
you gather correctly.. I do not yet have the open gun.. just trying to prepare as much as possible before I have it so I can run it right from the get go - fast!
A friend has just suggested the same thing - see how they go in the gun, during live fire.
It is possible that I'm just worrying too much and asking questions about something that might not occur during live fire.
-
It's possible with the jhp 1.235 might be a smidge too long when the round is feeding up the tube. Might be. Try first some at 1.225, might help.
There is also the chance the double stack to single stack transition inside the tube is not to spec. Does the tuning guide from Dawson cover that?
Good luck, hopefully it's just an oal adjustment.
Thanks, I'll try some dummy rounds at a shorter OAL.
The Dawson tuning guide does not cover tuning the double-to-single stack transition. It covers: magazine dimension - front-to-back, polishing inside, deburring feed lips, feed lip dimensions front-to-rear.
-
What is your OAL?
MG JHP 124gr,
If I remember correctly, OAL is 1.235", but I'll double check when I can.
-
Have you tried it without tuning the mags?
yes, it did it before I tuned the mags. Maybe I need to be more precise on the feed lip dimensions.
-
Maybe you could try some MBX mags
I will eventually if I can't solve this issue, but that is not my concern at the moment.
Lots of guys have run STI mags in 38 successfully, and I would like to try to figure it out.

I am gearing up for shooting open, I plan on purchasing a used custom 38 super build.
I bought some STI magazine tubes - 140mm and 170mm. I put new TTI base pads and Grams springs and followers in them.
I tuned the magazines according to instructions in the Dawson mag tuning kit - I have done this in .40 with success.
However, after loading up some dummy rounds in 38 super and super comp, when pulling the rounds out of the magazine one at a time, a good number of them don't snap fully up right up against the feed lips. The case head does, but some of them sort of angle down, in a nose-dive fashion. This doesn't happen so much in the 170s, but in the 140's it happens quite a bit.
I'm not sure this will be desired for feeding purposes. I thought 38 was supposed to be more reliable with regards to the magazines and feeding, but this doesn't seem right.
I know I may be a little pre-mature in asking this question as I do not yet own the open pistol, but I'm just doing my homework and preparing so I can take it out and race with it as soon as possible when I do get it. Any advice on this is appreciated. Thanks

The more time goes on, the more I lean toward this opinion on 9 minor:
Use anything that cycles your gun and is accurate. Minor power factor is for wussies (kidding, sort of), and different powders, etc.. don't really feel or perform all that different.
-
You guys with the CK 9 major guns - if it has the standard upright optic mount, do you reload range brass for it, and do you sort by head stamp for consistent ejection or does it eject everything fine?
-
I think use of the U-die can hurt or help you.
I love it for .40, when loading MG 180 JHPs, 180gr Ibejiheads and 200gr Ibejiheads.
However, after switching my press back to 9mm and loading some Bayou 147's (when last batch was Zero JHPs), it seemed the U-die was possibly contributing to crooked bullets - maybe too tight when seating the bullet, perhaps in combination with a not-so-perfect seating plug alignment with the bullet ogive? I don't know.. I switched over to a regular Lee sizer and my issues mostly went away. -
I have a SC I shoot super or comp. I don't seperate them. Point of impact is exactly the same, feel the same, eject the same ( a little 2foot pile) the only diff is I can get 30 plus 1 of comp. 1 to 2 less of super. YMMV.
What is your extractor setup for this?
Have you loaded both interchangeably? Or have you separated the super from SC brass and swapped out the shell plates for each?
I am in process of picking up a used 38 super with an Aftec extractor, and currently looking into what the restrictions really are on loading both and shooting both. I guess I can try the shooting thing in practice, but an above poster mentioned he did not have good luck with a super extractor dealing with SC.

yea, it is pretty grippy, but not enough to shred your hands.. i like it..

I run the EGW U die only for resizing, it is fine with lube. You are adding a layer of complexity that is not necessary and I would not want to F with the way the powder measure works. Leave station 3 open for a bullet feeder later.
as far as the 165s- I'm sure they would be fine for minor, but more particular to preference for major.
-
It probably makes more business sense if SV made triggers that fit the regular grips as SV may sell that many more triggers but that's just me. I guess it makes the SV triggers a bit exclusive.
It's easy enough to fit the SV in the poly grips if you take your time. I've not tried the metal frames though.
I agree with you on this - it would probably be pretty simple for SV to make triggers that fit STI style grips, and pretty much everyone out there would go out and buy one, or five..
I modified my SV trigger because I already had my metal grip DLC'd, so I didn't want to file on it after that...
Starting from scratch is another thing, and I'm sure most good builders can fit the trigger to the frame how they see fit before sending the gun off for finishing, but my steel grip was an added part to a 2-year old gun.

While that may be true, i will load my Clays in whatever cartridge i want, thank you
i never said i hate on it, i just think there are other 40 powders that equal it, but nothing does in 45
I waste Clays on 40 minor and major, don't hate on it till you try it.Who the hell is going to waste clays on 40, save it for your 45 or trade it for 2 lbs of something else, it's been hard to come by for quite some time
Starting load for Clays?
in 10mm/40 Caliber

I used to load Solo 1000 and N320 for short length glock loads. You can probably also consider Ramshot Competition and WST.
