  1. On another note I do think a GLOCK makes a better first timer gun but the cost point of that argument is just not true. Somebody said you can get a pair of Glocks for one 1911 and that may have been true a year ago but as the market sits Glocks Used are well over $600 out the door in most areas. As a matter of fact I traded my G34 here on Enos for a my Springfield loaded straight up. Yes there are deals to be had on Glocks but 2 for under a thousand is not gonna happen today if it does someone hook me up ill take a couple pairs!

  2. I had an RIA it was reliable and ate everything. Came into issues trying to change out sights as they use a weird cut. They may have changed it from 4 years ago. The finish was not impressive but like I said the thing ran tip top.

I now have an sti 2011 and have shot the spartan and Trojan and well STI is an awesome choice! Good finish, reliable, easily upgradeable. I also have a Springfield loaded that runs great and does everything my STI does. Only thing the chamber is a hair tight with factory ammo no problems with reloads it gets a little finicky with lead/moly rounds unless they are loaded short. I had the barrel reamed throated whatever you call it and that's no longer an issue.

If I were buying another 1911 carry, home defense, or comp and I had a budget of $700-1000 it would be a Spartan Or a Trojan STI. That being said I would pass on the RIA for the finish and upgrade issues, and definitely Kimber.

  3. So I just did a quick search on Ebay and saw Dillon stuff for sale: from $130-260 for steel .223 reloading die sets, super swages were selling for $150+, and conversion kits anywhere from $65 to $75. I just got my kit from Dillon on an order I made back in January and I would be lying if the resale value wasn't tempting me to wait another 3 months. Anyone know what the lead times are if I ordered today?

  4. Hey did you load those mags too capacity when you cycled them through on your test run? I know when I am loading my mags to full and putting a lot of weight behind trying to seat those last few rounds I tend to dent the brass on those last few rounds.

  5. To update I got my Tripp mags and these things are amazing. About 300 rounds through and no FTF's or malfunctions to report. You get what you pay for in regards to these mags. 0 tinkering with feed lips or springs etc out of the box they ran great. The system followers are beefcakes and I foresee no flipping or sticking from them in the future.

  6. After a crap ton of google research and talking with some other single stackers (I'm in the same boat as you just picked up a springfield in .40) this forum echo's my findings in that the Tripp mags are the business. Just spoke to the good folks at Tripp Research the Cory mag/System mag are the same thing. Basically a 10mm mag cut down and mated with their high speed follower. The system mags will except 9 rounds to the top and downloaded to 8 for single stack are super reliable. Now I asked about these mags running 10 rounds for limited ten uspsa should the need or want ever arise and they said "YES SIR" and told to me to include what are called FLEX FOLLOWERS to make my system mags run 10. They included these followers at no charge when I called in my order.

System mags are $40.95 a piece and were $245.70 out the door for 6.

I know a bit spendy when compared to Wilson's offerings but from what I have read if you run a .40 1911 this is the best option and well I have in the past bought twice and cried twice NOT THIS TIME. I will update once I get everything in and get some range time. Hope I helped.

  7. Just like the title says I got a new 1911 to compete in USPSA single stack, and IDPA (and maybe lim10 USPSA but am unsure of the rules can I run 10 round wilsons to play that game?).

I need to know what mags I should get the search results say tripp but I'm not sure what the differences between wilson, and tripp are. Also the gun has a small magwell on it and I don't know what base pads I need if I go with wilsons.

Single stack pouches I have versa pouches for my limited rig and I'm thinking of upgrading that rig to some Racers and getting more Versa's for my single stack setup. Can I use those pouches for IDPA?

Holster I'm thinking of grabbing a comptac, ready tac or bladetech any other suggestions? I know I cant run a racer style holster anybody have any other suggestions?

Can I run a magnet pouch for my barney 6th mag so I have five on the belt and 1 to make ready do I need more mags than that?

That's all the questions I can think of for now.

  8. I got some STI mag tubes a couple of years ago that were very hard to load the last 3-4 rounds and could not get full capacity out of them. Sent them to Chris at STI and he stated they were out of spec at the top where the taper is. He adjusted them smaller front to back which made the side to side bigger. I have seen the front to back spec on this forum before but can not locate it now. As stated above, squeeze them in a vise to match one of your old tubes.

They will be on the way to Randy at STI on Monday. Problem solved.
  9. Yah I've seen there are a lot of clubs close within 19-30 miles I'm more interested in knowing who shoots where who avoids this and that and for what reasons. I have family there and will likely do some shooting as my wife and I play with the idea so I'm trying to make those future trips all encompassing to see what the entire move might be like. Thanks!

  10. Well the republic of Kalifornia has some new laws in the works and may be the final push to finally move my family out of here. My private job, and interstate transfer within the guard don't seem to be a problem, my family is on board so now that the priorities are sewn up I'm wondering if anyone can chime in on the clubs that are close to Chandler AZ.

I don't want to turn this into a political debate the fact is CA gun laws suck and the state will continue to create more suck just seeing how the climate is I know Hot but what can I expect at those local venues in regards to prices membership fees so on and so forth. In regards to matches I'm looking at more matches in regards to USPSA, Multigun, and steel challenge for me and my girls on Saturdays and Sundays* most importantly.

If a move comes it will likely be at the end of 2013 definitely sometime after Sept.

  11. UGGGH! The Midway website DOES NOT track backorders in regards to incoming supply so today to my surprise my order did not ship and when I called they told me that there was no way to know exactly where I was on the list in regards to the shipments coming and going but I would definitely NOT be in this months batch and the lady did not know 100% if my order would be included in the next batch shipping on Feb 13. I cancelled and found some in stock at Natchez "bit the bullet" pun intended and paid a little more. As of this edit they are still in stock http://www.natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&prodID=HO2267BAG&src=tpSlrHm

  12. I think that's for new orders I didn't get an email saying they would be delayed...

Yup just checked my order details on the midway website says the 4th.

  13. Also, Midway's is good about back-orders. The Hornady 55gr FMJBT is a good bullet.

Exactly how good is Midway's backorder on those bullets I want to go ahead and order it but am unsure.
