Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I own one and have shot it over the last few years, and I won't say it's crap. That said, I can't exactly recommend it either. I only use the 10 round metal mags, but they've worked just fine for me. I've never used the 30 rounders. The only malfunctions I've had were definitely due to el-cheapo ammo. The rifle is reasonably accurate, but it hides in the corner of my gun safe where my CZ 452s can't see it and steal its lunch money. Trigger is absolutely lousy stock, but Volquartsen makes a better hammer for it that makes the trigger more managable. In short, it offers no advantage over a Ruger 10/22. If I could do it all again, I would pass on the 597, and instead get the 10/22 where the aftermarket would let me turn it into anything I wanted to the extent my wallet would allow provided I was unhappy with the stock gun. If you want a precision rifle where accuracy is key, get a CZ 452/455 or some other bolt action. If you want a 22 plinker/blaster/trainer, get a Ruger 10/22. Or, if you want both, throw a fishhook baited with your wallet into the seas of the Ruger 10/22 aftermarket!
  2. Never mind, my reading comprehension sucks.

    SIRT pistol

Assuming that target is using the LED as both a photodetector as well as in a more traditional fashion for the display, I would assume the red/red laser version of the SIRT would work with that target. I wouldn't be so sure with the green/red laser version of the SIRT, at least without swapping the function of the two lasers. I've got my SIRT in the office with a bunch of targets taped to my wall. Whenever I need a break, I just practice trigger control and transitioning between targets. I love the thing, and it works fantastically even when focusing on the front sight. Of course, I would recommend you have a relatively lax employer before trying the same thing. I will also neither confirm nor deny that one can be reasonably accurate holding the pistol sideways with a little practice.
  4. Out of curiosity, how many photodetectors are you using and what are you using for the target material to diffuse the laser? After picking up the SIRT pistol a few days ago, I've been looking to build a few targets. I was thinking of a series of photodetectors ringing a piece of frosted acrylic pressed against the edge, and then tie it into some sort of a counter circuit with a 7 segment LED to track number of hits. We have a few contacts here at work that spin PCBs for us, so I may get a few done if I can get a circuit that I'm happy with. Of course, the real fun part will be trying to integrate some sort of motor into the target to have it fall after being hit.
