    9mm 1911?

Which 9mm 1911... most of them are fine... what are you looking to do, shoot cheap rounds, practice steel matches.. IMHO a 1911 is pistol, and then you spend more cash on what you use the 1911 for... Springfield loaded works quite nicely.. shooting cheap ammo, and shooting steel.
  2. I wear 34" jeans... put them on and slid a waist messure tape through the belt loops... measured at 36", so I ordered a CR 38" which fits a little long but I'm good to go
  3. Since my last post, I did order and receive a Tac-Grip belt... and have shot a few matches. The short story, I could not mount any Blade-Tech gear... the outter belt is way too thick. I ended up order a CR-Speed belt and it fits my gear as expected. Live and learn
  4. FWIW… I’ve been shooting pistols a long time… but shot my first steel match this weekend. I ended up using my SA 1911 9mm with XS sights… both my S&W are in the shop for factory repair. Based on what I learned, and let me say WAY FUN to shoot steel is a good way to compete. I finished with a score of 172.98 (6 stages)… out of 132 competitors… winning score was 96.172, so I finished around 50%.... iron sights. For sure, folks who compete, and are good, humbled me to say the least. They would smoke a stage in under 4 seconds, always. It’s not the gun that matters, it’s the ZEN moment… simply go compete with something that holds 10 rounds. Once you draw from the holster, and the adrenal kicks in… miss a few plates and know that a reload is coming… the gun doesn’t matter. I am fully humbled… and fully enjoyed the match. My only regret is the lost time getting here! Go shoot a match… it changes how you view the gun… 10 rounds is the bench mark before a reload.
  5. From Tac-Grip... "Bob Yes on our TAC-GRIP® Tactical Shooting Belt We already add about 4 inches overlap to your regular pants size. Thank you" SO I ordered one based on my measured waist size (through belt loop)... and will update when I have the belt.
  6. Folks, Greatly appreciate the follow up comments. I found a few uTube videos that helped illustrate the 2 belt concepts, and why they are a must. I have a question posted to Tac-Grip on belt size recommendation, and will update when I have a response.
  7. Yep, this is exaclty the type of material that I was not able to find using the search function.
  8. Actually, I did read through several threads (from searching), but what I could not find, and is part of what I was asking… I really don’t understand the “2” belt concept… For example, is the inner belt mechanically connected to the outer belt? Can I use a 2 belt setup independently? What the searching has shown is who likes what belt… I’m more interested in how a belt system works, why 2 belts work better/worse, and what other considerations are required. In fact, I have not found too many threads anywhere about “belts” as a system of systems… that lead to better performance. Thanks, BobZ
  9. I like this setup for a couple of reasons… but I’m newbie to competition shooting. My holster gear is Blade-Tech Sting Ray, for 3 pistols… Sig P226, S&W DK 1911, and M&P Pro9. I initially tried a few standard leather belts, 1.5” width, and quickly realized they flex way too much. I’m easing into competition shooting this year, and belong to a few clubs, in particular is an indoor range that host “fun shoots” with stations and varied ranges… its perfect for me… I can learn the basics of draw and fire without having to “compete” right away. So the timing of this thread is “spot on” for me... and have a few questions. I started looking at CR Speed, as well as DAA… but TAC-GRIP really caught my attention. I will need to change out my holster / mag gear, so this setup looks worthy of “try and see”… This is my core question, I have 3 option (inner, outer, or both)… Is the (inner/outer pair) “Tactical Shooting Belt” the better way? IN other words, why in the world do I need two belts, some inner belt, and some outer belt… is this really the best approach? The combo is $95 dollars, really small change relative to the amount of ammo I go through a month, but was hoping that someone could explain this multi-belt setup… I’m tempted to just use a inner belt for all of my gear… but as I mentioned, I’m new to competition shooting. Would really appreciate some advice / comments. Thanks in advance, Bob
  10. FWIW, the Wilson mags work great in my Springfield Loaded... I did keep them fully loaded for about a week, and yep the 10th round was a bit tough... but no more. I have shot WWB, American Eagle and Sellier with equal results. Bob
  11. SA Loaded Stainless 9mm Target XS Sights (rear adjustable, big dot front) Wilson #500,9 Elite Tactical Mags (10 rounds) Wilson speed chute. Wilson Star burst grips Wilson Titanium firing pin with matching spring. A few comments - :Wilson mag, follow the directions and fully load them, and let them sits for a few days to seat the spring. :XS Sights, I would probably go with the regular dot... but i do like them a lot. :Glide grease rocks! Would like to hear from members about trigger job, would like to see what options are out there!
  12. Thank you folks... and really enjoying the content I'm reading!
  13. Wow… this is a fantastic discussion! I’m LE dominate, right handed shooter as well. At times, I shoot left, not real bad but enough to bother me. For sure it’s out past 15 yards when I notice the left drift. I do want to mention , I shoot with both eye’s open and have no ghost issues. What I find helpful is actually a series of things: - I will, at times, blink my right to make sure my sight picture is left eye dominate. - I check my stance, making sure my right leg is behind me enough to turn my upper body right. This seems to help my grip as my forward arm alignment is more centered. - I do need my left thumb pressed against the right thumb. Actually it’s a bit over the top of my right thumb. I’ve tried right handed, not dominate right eye but found I needed to close my LD eye… not really happy left handed shooting as it feels awkward, and have some issues when reloading quickly. I do feel better reading, knowing there are other shooters LED and righty Bob
  14. Hello folks, my name is Bob and really like the quality of content here. I have been away from the shooting sport for 20+ years and rejoined last year with a vengeance. Primarily a pistol shooter which is how I found out about this site. I was looking for Wilson mags for my Springfield Loaded 9mm and by chance (google) stumbled upon Brian’s site. So silly me, I send an email to customer support, looking to check on stock and such… and backs comes a fast email, all is good… Sometimes fate works in strange ways, in short, I’m seriously looking into completion shooting, hence the search for mags and had no idea who I was interacting with… Brian. So I do a little checking around to confirm the site is legit and to my surprise, it’s owned by a Top Gun! After reviewing some of the threads, the quality of the content, I had to join… and hope to add my experiences to the membership. I enjoy several sports but shooting is an addiction, and spend quality time each week, working up to my first match… no doubt there is much here I will learn about. So let me say in advance thank you! Bob.
