  1. Agreed that it was a tricky spot there. Mag change was necessary at that point, with walls blocking the left side, targets through a port in the wall.

When I ran through that stage my mag change was done 3 or 4 steps before I even got to there (ie, completed the mag change as I was moving out of the previous shooting position and not while moving into the next). Planning ahead obviously would save you. Newer shooters I understand getting caught there, since there is so much going on and so many things to think about. More experience shooters would pick it up fairly quickly.

  2. I'm a new RO .. Just did the RO course about 2 months ago, and then did a 1 day local qualifier match indoor last month.

This past weekend I was RO Saturday and Sunday at a bigger match (about 120 shooters) set up as work 1/2 the day, shoot 1/2 the day. Saturday I worked in the morning.

The other RO (more experienced) ran the first squad through and I worked the clipboard and one shooter broke 90 on a reload while moving into the next shooting position. It was clear and that was that. After that squad, the CRO talked about it with us (the 2 ROs) and said we really needed to watch that one spot and he would give the squads a heads up while doing the walk through so they were aware.

So, next squad I'm running the shooters and the other RO is running the clipboard and score cards. The 3rd shooter up (experienced) did the same thing, very clearly broke 90. I stopped him and gave the reasons, and the CRO had also clearly seen it.

Fast forward to Sunday ... New shooter, had just done his first match Saturday. Similar spot as Saturday, with the potential for breaking 90. Being a newer shooter, he fumbled a bit with one mag change and nearly broke 90. I changed my angle of view a bit to make sure he was ok for the next spot he would have to do a mag change (remember in Canada we only are allowed 10 round mags maximum, so reloading happens often).

He broke 90 on that spot, similar to the guy on Saturday. I stopped him. "unload and show clear". "did I really?" "unload and show clear" and he does. By that time the CRO had walked over. "are you sure?" "yes, I'm 100% sure. I had the angle and saw it clear as day". "ok, no problem"

After scoring and taping, the shooter comes up and apologizes to me, and shakes my hand. I apologize and say I had to call it as I saw it. But I did feel bad .. Younger guy, just getting started.

As an RO, you really don't dq anyone, they dq themselves. The RO just does the paperwork.

As an RO do you get bothered with having to dq someone? I need to just shrug it off and carry on obviously, but still thinking about it now ....

  3. Just thought I would share this and see if anyone else who has read the books has noticed this.

Yes ... Rand talks about it right at the beginning of the adventure.

I read those books starting in grade 10 (OMG, 23 years ago :surprise: ) and have seen the similarities.

It's not easy though, picturing a candle flame and then pouring everything into it. Give it a try before you start a practice session. Very difficult.

  4. If you have a Canadian PAL then yes you should be able to buy something. Not sure why you would want to buy up here since costs are typically higher than down south of the border.

  5. NRA LINK

Glad to see the NRA picked up the story. And I'm glad the government finally got this done.

This has been in place since 1995 ... one of my favourite quotes from this last debate ... one of the anti-gun types said "this needs more debate" ... to which the minister replied "isn't 15 years of debating enough?"

  6. Think about it logically and step by step ...

You rack the gun using the rear serrations with the ejection port upwards. You let go of the slide and catch the round. You re-rack the slide and hold open in order to show clear to the RO.

Ummmm ... Someone explain the issue? Where/how is going to blow up? Other than where the round goes/lands and the speed at which it is done, mechanically speaking (mechanics and action of the gun), how is that different than racking the slide and having it drop out?

IMO hand over the ejection port is way more of a safety issue than flipping the round. I do it and practice with dummy rounds while dry firing. I don't practice it specifically, but just as I go along through my drills.

  7. The reason I ask is because there was one person on another forum who is adamant that he had a "pile of" primer failures because of getting lube into the primers. Anyone seen anything like that?

I think there is a thread where members here put that to the test. And, de-bunked it.

    That's what I figured. Thanks!

  8. The reason I ask is because there was one person on another forum who is adamant that he had a "pile of" primer failures because of getting lube into the primers. Anyone seen anything like that?

First I think if you are having primer issues you are using the wrong lube. Lubes designed for loading typically won't hurt a primer whereas stuff like WD 40 will kill them.

Second I can't imagine lube, when used properly, even getting deep inside a case and causing problems.

With the One Shot I only lightly coat the inside of the bag then dump in brass. It is only touching the outside of the case and it's not nearly enough lube that it is running on the brass. Just a fine coating.

Thats what I do Sarge .. And I mentioned that same idea .. He was adamant that the lube had messed up his primers. I will have to dig up that conversation thread and post .. He was almost argumentative about it

  9. I prefer to use the Engineering Style that has finer lines, and white backgrounds.

Go to Windows.Styles. Press the black and white expander button. Select "Default Styles", and pick "Engineering Style", or play around with the other styles to see what matches up with the way you prefer to visualize things.

Perfect. Thanks for the tips there. Looks much better
