  1. other factors..gun is single action only and has a full length dustcover.

I missed the part in the description where they did away with double action capability. It can't play at all.

Come to USPSA.... Your gun can play with us.

  2. CZ-75 Tactical Sports.

Don't know yet, but it feels good in dry fire.

You will like the gun. With the basepads from Angus the magazines holds 20+1. For the price, I think it is one of the best reeady-to-race out-of-the-box guns out there.

  3. Cy, I e-mailed J.A. and his response is that under current rules you have to use mags that are the same as came in the gun,,i.e SP01 mags with SP01,,the rules in front sight are not finalized as of yet and there may be revisions. I ordered SP01 mags today and installed my fpb so my cz's are good to go. It also looks like the alum cz grips are ok as of this time.

So, no 3rd party magazines in production? That doesn't seem right to me. At least the BoD still has to approved his rulings, right? Also, not all SP-01's were shipped with 18/19 round magazines. Some shipped with the 10 round magazines which are the same size as the 16 round CZ and MecGar magazines. I'll say it again - if the gun and magazine fit in the box the gun should be good to go.

I'm starting to see why 'outlaw' matches are so appealing. No BS rules and no $$$ to USPSA.

  4. Run the snub! As long as you have a safe holster and can reload in a reasonable period of time with speedloaders and/or speed-strips shoot and have fun. Will you win, probably not. So what? Enjoy the day with like minded folks. If the bug bites, upgrade to a 'competition gun' if that is what you want to do.

  5. On the flip side, there are local shooters here who will ALWAYS ask 'Isn't that a double?' when they have a mike on the assumption that it never hurts to ask. So, as an RO you look again, call the mike and move on. No harm, no foul. In fact, it is almost a inside joke with those shooters.

I guess, cheating is one thing, but being a good natured PITA is another.

  6. I have scanned this topic and done a search and cannot find where it states aftermarket mags are not acceptable,,if anyone has seen this info let me know, i too am concerned that i will need to purchase factory sp01 mags to use my sp01,,this would stink as many other brand shooters use other mags.and help would be appreciated.

    18) What provisions of this interpretation apply to magazines? May I modify my magazines?

ANSWER: In general, NO. All existing rules and rulings remain in effect for magazines. While there are no specified limits on magazine length, an existing ruling requires that the gun must fit in the box with a magazine inserted, and that all magazines (whether OEM or aftermarket) must be “dimensionally the same as the original magazine for that model of gun”. Adding aftermarket base pads, adding or removing material from base pads or adding grip-tape would all be considered external modifications and are not allowed. Springs and followers, for purposes of this ruling, would be considered “internal parts” and may be modified or replaced without restrictions.

I think there is a question about what “dimensionally the same as the original magazine for that model of gun” means. Also, many shooters replace the sharp metal basepads with the CZ rubber basepads. I don't think anyone knows if a mecgar with a CZ rubber base pad will get you moved into Open or not. Also, the new Mecgar mags have a plastic basepad that is shaped like the CZ rubber basepad.

My opinion is load the mags with 10 tounds and if it fits in the box it should be good to go.

  7. Not to re-ignite this fire but, are the PD rules locked down for now with no additional changes or modifications to address the concerns voiced here and on the USPSA site?

If one is currently shooting a PD gun from brand X that is in question, can we proceed to make a decision to either restore/acquire the necessary parts (whether it be a FP block or correct magazines) to comply with these rulings, or start training with a gun from brand Y that is in compliance, so we can go forward with the game?

I for one have a CZ SP01 and I can polish the FP Block and lifter to smooth the action. However, I need to decide how badly I want to buy the additional, pricey factory magazines to stay in this game.

Has it been established that the MecGar magazines are not production legal? I know most CZ shooters use the MecGar magazines as do a lot of Baretta shooters.

  8. Started out about 18 months ago shooting Production with about 20,000 other beginners! Have shot, practiced and learned a lot over that time, but Production seems overly crowded. I'm still not sure what other classes a stock CZ SP-01 would qualify to shoot in, or what the advantages and drawbacks of the other classes might be.

At age 59, I'm shooting strictly to improve skills, not for money or prizes. Any insights or suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

The CZ makes a great production gun. That said, you could shoot it in Limit 10 (minor). Load the magazines to capacity and shoot Limited (minor). Heck, you could shoot the gun in Open with the 26 round magazines Angus sells. The only divisions you can't shoot the gun in are Single Stack and Revolver. I'd probably just stick with Production or shoot Limited (minor) and load my mags to capacity.

  9. I'm going to my first Nationals this year in Las Vegas and have started a basic excercise plan (having a goal helps). I looked up historical September temperatures and it looks like I should expect an average daytime high in the mid 90's for the match. Yuck!

I shot the Va/Md sectional last year and the heat (103) really kicked my butt over a 1/2 day 10 stage match. I did the pre-hydrate thing and drank lots of water, but it didn't help too much. What can I do, with 5 months to train, to better handle the heat. It just doesn't get that hot too often NE Pa.

  10. But Eric, the other Divisions follow the rules in their specific Division, it the PD crowd that was having an issue. It was the PD crowd that said the words "specifically allowed" and "prohibited" were not very clear commands, so the BoD had to rewrite some things to make it understandable. The rules have not changed, they just got CLEAR and DEFINED. The things you are not allowed now you never were, it just had to get spelled out for some people.

OK. Fine, I believe they have changed while others think they are now 'clear and defined'. 'Nuff said. Now leave them alone till the next rule book. I do't think this is a good move, but what do I know....

  11. Why would we stop there? Why not 380 or 25 or even rimfire. Aside from gunsmiths gaining orders and competitors having cheaper brass we would not accomplish anything. Given the current political climate, we might all be using airsoft soon enough. Instead of beating the drum for this change send the money you would otherwise be using for a new limited gun and send it to the NRA.

My point was that the rules are/were fine. Please stop changing them. Stop saying 'I don't care what they do to production, I shoot.....' I really don't like the new rules and I disagree that there is no current intention to vote to finalize the rules after members have had a chance to comment. I'd just ask, with this change, leave the divisions and rules alone for a few years! And, if you feel the need to fine-tune a division, screw with someone else's gear next time.

    Eric

  12. Probably because I can't find anybody who would be named in the lawsuit that is willing to put up everything they have or everything they ever will have so that someone can have a half pound better trigger pull.

If I recall correctly, USPSA is incorporated, so while USPSA might have liability, the individual board members wouldn't.

This is how I see this issue. How can it be a safety issue only in one division?

Again, the question is if this is a safety issue (in which case all divisions should be changed immediately), or is it something else?

    Eric

I think Gary's explained it pretty well: They were dealing with a single division, and enough area directors were uncomfortable with voting for a rule that permitted removing a working safety on a gun, that we got the language we did.....

    There's no conspiracy there.

As to the other divisions --- the rulebook is silent on the legality of pinning grip safeties or removing firing pin blocks. If an RO believes that pinning a grip safety or removing a FPB is unsafe on a gun in other divisions, he is free to exercise his discretionary authority under Rule 5.1.6......

There is no necessary rule change --- unless you can point out rulebook language that specifically allows for the removal/deactivation of a safety in any division.....

    Nick.

Maybe it is just me, but it seems like the BoD are always willing to change the rules of Production to suite their idea of the 'vision and intention' of the division while at the same time leaving other divisions alone because it would upset too many members (who, apparently, matter more than production shooters). I'll say it again, with the last rule book we were promised three years of rule stability! Leave the production alone (at least till the next rule book)!

Long live the series 80 safety in 1911's. :-)

    Eric

  13. "Is this about the safety or about the trigger job?"

If someone were a wacko conspiracy theorist, they might believe that USPSA held a bit of favoritism toward the striker fired guns and the companies that build them. But that is ridiculous and supportable. That would almost be like starting a new youth shooting sport and banning hammer fired guns....

    Eric

  14. So, why exactly did we need this new rule from our overlords on the BoD? Magazine capacity is limited to 10 rounds. 'Nuff said. All the rest is BS. All this new rule does is make all of us who shoot MecGar magazines subject to the question of if our equipment is legal. There is no competive advantage to using MecGars. People use them because they are 1/2 the price of factory magazines.

    Eric

  15. I think if you look back a few dozen post or so, I acknowledged that those were valid quesions. However, this issue is about Production Division, not any other divisions.

History shows that it is better to fight one battle at a time if possible.

    Gary,

I have to respectfully disagree. If this is a safety issue it must be immediately addressed across all divisions. How can we acknowledge that disabling a safety device is inherently unsafe while at the same time condoning the practice in other divisions? It this isn't really a safety issue but is instead a quest to keep production stock, it should be acknowledged as such and not hide behind calling it a gun safety issue.

    Eric
