  1. Yeah I found the soldering iron held close (but not touching) creates a very nice and smooth mushroom. My FO seems brighter when I use the soldering iron method as opposed to the lighter.

Thanks for clarifying that. I would have put the flame or end of the soldering iron on the FO...LOL. I'm learning every day!

  2. Let me start out by saying I'm pretty new to the Tanfoglio world. I purchased my first EAA; a new Witness Limited 10mm two months ago. A buddy recommended this forum and while I read many posts and learned much it soon became apparent that many believe the service dept at EAA to be terrible. I must admit that I was a bit concerned.

Shortly after taking her out I realized my chrome factory mag had issues. It would either stick going in and I'd have to jam it in or it would not drop completely out. I hated to return it since EAA does not have chrome replacements. Nealio convinced me to get a mag that works. This led to my first call to EAA. I was assisted by Richard. He was most polite and when I asked him if they would transfer my mag bottom to the new "black mag" body he said sure, why not. He encouraged me to include a note asking for it. That new mag was received today with my original mag base! They had it out of the shop in three days. I was pretty happy! In the meantime I replaced the post front sight with the red FO. It was on their really tight and I still used the screw, trust me.

Then last week I went to the range and my FO front sight blew off, no where to be found. I called EAA In hopes that they would cover this under warranty. Richard answered the call and after explaining what happened he suggested I return the gun with a detailed note and it should be no problem. Only problem was I wasn't about to pay the $$ to overnite the entire gun for just a front sight replacement. I suggested that I send them just the slide. He said ok but they might require the entire gun as that is their policy for repairs.

They received my slide last Thursday. I called today to check on whether they would replace it under warranty without the entire gun and to my pleasant surprise not only did they but it was shipped back out on Friday, the next day! Service A++ in my book!

I've been a Real Estate Broker for 30 years & I know what good and bad service is all about. I can't shout loudly enough for how I've been treated by EAA. In my book Richard has provided World Class Service and he has made the difference!

I'm not related to anyone at EAA. I'm just a shooter like the rest of you but I thought I should share my experience.

  3. Unfortunately grinding a new set screw dimple (??) and using the soldering iron are outside the scope of my limitations. I did go to Harbor Freight to check out their Dremel 80 pc rotary tool set on sale for $6.99. Thought maybe I'd attempt some polishing. Two questions:

    1. Would it be advisable to pay more and get a Variable Speed dremel?

    2. Does polishing only smooth the surface? I'd hate to remove metal and too much at that!

BTW: so is Henning the only after market FO option?

    Thanks

  4. I was outdoors to chrono several recipes ( will post results in a few days). I'm on the next to last load & NO red FO but the base was intact. I checked the base & it was finger tight so I continued. On the last mag I notice the base is gone too.

After crawling on my hands & knees I located the FO but not the base. Nealio told me to Locktite it but I was concerned I would damage the FO rod trying to remove it, it was super tight.

Are the FO rods supposed to slide in/out? I have not examined it to see if an end just busted off.

Gonna call EA & see if it's a warrantied item (witness LTD). If not warranted is HENNING my only option?

  5. After a few hundred rounds the pre travel screw loosened & I was able to adjust. Being a Glock guy using 3.5# disconnectirs, I had no idea trigger could be this sweet! Have not felt the need to polish anything yet. Haven't installed the 13# hammer spring or Henning firing pin yet. She is very accurate.

The slide will not lock open with the Sprinco + Wolf 20# but will with the factory spring. That's ok since the slide is protected. Might need to get the wolf 16 or 18# spring until I run hotter loads. Currently around 1150-1200.

  6. So far it feeds everything as long as it is 1.250' or less, I will be trying some cast bullets if I can get some.

My new Limited has been having occasional feeding issues with FMJ's with an OAL near 1.260. Loaded up a new recipe that varies 1.246 - 1.252 (due to components). No feeding issues so far & I have not polished the feed ramp. I was running the factory spring + Sprinco recoil rod. These 10mm rounds should range 1175 - 1240. Sun was so bright my chrono would not register.

  7. NEALIO is right again. A mag that works pretty well could get you killed. Mags have to work 100% or it's a broken part in your gun.

I don't know about you but i've spent 100's of dollars trying to get Old red follower mags in 10mm & .40 to shoot the whole mag w/o any issues. That's now a non-issue with the new K Series mags. I have them in 10mm,9mm,38S & .40. Thirteen different brands of ammo have gone thru these mags.

With the new mags you don't have to worry about OAL, feed lips or calipers. You just put the ammo in the mag and the gun shoots. Try Hennings mag

I agree with both of you. My 2nd mag is from Hennings. I just compared the top of each mag and they are way different. I removed the grips and it appears the factory mag meets a little resistance a couple inches after insertion. If after testing it I find that their are feeding issues then of course I'll send it back to EAA and have them install my base pad on the newer K10 mag.

BTW: what were the issues of the problem mags with the red followers? Feeding issues, locking in, etc?

  8. Are you sure that the top round in the mag is not sliding forward, preventing the mag from droppin? Check the feed lip specs.

This was the issue on my SP01. The sharp edge at the bottom of the breechface was stripping the top round forward when it chambered the current round. The way I was able to correct it was to slightly break the bottom of the breechface.

  9. If the mag that sticks has a red follower then it is the old style mag that is now out of production.

I just got off the phone with Richard at EAA. I explained that my empty chrome factory mag (with red follower) was sticking. He explained that having a "red follower" is not a 100% indication that they were made by the other company. He further explained that there was a period of time that the red were still used when they switched back to MecGar. All current production do have black followers. He said I could send my factory chrome mag and they would replace it BUT not with a chrome mag :-(. He did say I could include a note telling them to use the chrome base pad on the black replacement mag! I'm going to keep messing with it for a while longer as I would prefer to keep the chrome mag.

  10. When ejecting the factory mag is stops 1 1/2" meeting resistance then I have to pull it out. But the mag from Henning with the aluminum base (marked K10) drops right out. Same thing when inserting. I had not heard of this with the factory supplied mag. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

After ejecting the factory mag several times now it is dropping all the way out a few times???

Hey Kwesi, Try some ink, paint marker or white out on the mag & try fitting with the grips off.

This should reveal where the snag is.

    Floydian

I was wondering if the grips could be causing this. Has this been a known issue with the factory mags?
