Mec-Gar 17, Springer basepad, trimmed Grams followers. Tested. Fits the gauge.

The same combination with CZC followers is over by about 2mm.

What do you mean by "CZC followers"? Do you mean CZC 18 round magazine tube? I know the CZC 18 round mag tube with the Springer 140mm base pad for the Mec-Gar 17 will not fit the gauge.

I just got some mecgar 19 rounders (17 +2 basepads). I was able to fit the +2 on the bottom of my cz 18 rounder (usually can squeeze 19) so technically this would give me 22 rounds for CO.

Does anyone see why this would not work for a "cheap" (relatively) alternative to getting basepads and much much more $$$ invested for trying CO.

Right now im trying to keep it cheap, hence going with a vortex viper (didnt want a venom with 3 moa dot, going with 6) and a dovetail mount (still looking to pick between them)

Have you tried the CZC Follower and Spring Kit #10522 for extra rounds?

Which +2 base pad are you using? I used a Taran Tactical TTI CZ +2 Base Pad (since CZC was out of the short pad) on a CZ 18 rounder with the  CZC 10522 spring and follower kit for 23+1 rounds. I did have to file the back portion of the magazine lips a bit to fit the 141.25 gauge.

However, I don't think you are not at much of a competitive disadvantage (if any) with your current mags.

  3. I tried the CZCustom spring and follower kit #10522 on a 17rd Mec-Gar Magazine with Springer 140mm base pad (holds 21 rounds with Mec-Gar follower)). The top of the MecGar tube is designed differently as Stuart mentioned. The CZCustom follower does not come all the way up to the top of the mag. I filed the sides of the follower until it reached the top. It doesn't feel very stable. The follower is shorter front to back so there is a gap. However, the magazine will now hold 23 rounds. Dummy rounds will cycle through the gun fine (slide does not lock back). I hope to test them during live fire today or tomorrow. I'm concerned that it may not cycle reliably.

So the trigger that comes in the gun from the factory for the 320 X5 is the actual GGI piece? That would legalize the flat one. I still see no way the curved one is legal. I though the rule was it has to be available on a gun from the production gun list... Unless that changed...

    This is interesting.

If the GG "Enhanced" curved trigger is a stock P320 trigger and GGs modified the internal portion to change the leverage, it would be fine (I think). However, the exterior portion of the GG curved trigger is slightly different than the original on my P320RX. The sides of the GG trigger are wider than the original. It could probably be shaped (rotary tool) to match exactly though.

Same here, that's why I don't want to disclose everything that I've done.

It would be nice if someone would come out with lighter sear springs. Doesn't appear GrayGuns wants to sell theirs yet. I'm sure they are worried about messing with sear setups on guns they don't touch and may have excessive wear or other fitting issues.

  6. Yes Graphite Black Cerakote.

VegasMoFo - I went with Primary Machine because I read good reviews which included their fast service.

I also just added the grips. They are LOK Roughnecks with Palm Swell and Full Magazine Relief. Got them from Practical Shooting Sports. I think the Blue/Black look much nicer than the Black I thought I wanted. The surface is aggressive enough to leave marks on my hands for a short time but no blood drawn after 20-30 minutes of dry fire.

  7. I sent my CZ Shadow slide to be milled for my Burris Fast Fire III to Primary Machine. Just wanted to post a review from my experience.

Before sending, I emailed a ton of questions to them and all were answered very quickly with great information. I shipped the slide to them Monday before last, they got it on Wednesday and they sent me a return tracking email on Saturday. I received it back today. It took them all of a week to Mill and Cerakote the slide and get it back to me. In these days of 3,4,5 plus weeks to get anything like this done, I'm amazed. Very happy with their work quality and fast service. Here's a couple of images:

  8. I purchased a P320RX from Cabela's a few months ago. I've shot it in practice and a few matches. I really like how the gun shoots - mostly. Love how easy it is to break down and clean.

The 3 MOA dot is okay but I would much prefer a 6 or 8 MOA. It's fine standing and shooting one shot at a time like steel but when you are shooting follow up shots and multiple close targets fast, you see a diagonal line (as with other dots) instead of a dot. This line on the Romero 1 is thin, dull and hard to see. I have an 8 MOA on an Open gun I like much better.

Unfortunately, Sig cut the slide mount to only fit their optic - big bummer. Then, they limit you to one optic (which is 3 MOA). If I had to do it over again, I would have just bought a P320 and had the slide cut and put the optic I prefer on it. That adds about $550 to the cost of a standard P320. I may still do that and sell the RX next year. But, in the mean time, I sent my CZ Shadow slide to be milled for the dot I prefer. There is also the issue of the P320's 7/8lb trigger pull. Another $300 to send it off and get it down, which I would like. I read a post by Bruce on Facebook that they have their trigger kit parts ready and hope to announce it's availability early next year - Shot Show if I remember correctly.

  9. I guess we cannot look through these fence walls when running a stage and see targets behind them (unless we have X-ray vision). So, run the stages with these walls with eyes closed?

It may not specifically be in the book, but it seems pretty clear to me that walls are hardcover. You can no more see through them than you can shoot through them. (Even if technically you CAN see through it, because it's snow-fencing.) If it were not snow fencing or some other see-through material, you would not be able to see the target to shoot at it unless you looked throught the port.

Personally, I think 10.2.2 would apply.

10.2.2 A competitor who fails to comply with a procedure specified in the written stage briefing will incur one procedural penalty for each occur-rence. However, if a competitor has gained a significant advantage dur-ing non-compliance, the competitor may be assessed one procedural penalty for each shot fired, instead of a single penalty (e.g. firing multiple shots contrary to the required position or stance).

A port was provided, yet they did not look through the port, as intened. Instead they "looked through" a wall. (Must have x-ray vision.)

  10. I'm enjoying your 2011 build history. So far I vote for the EAA. :-)

I find the light recoil springs interesting. My STI is different as it has a bull barrel and the slide is not lightened but anything less than a 14lb spring and I will have feeding issues. Never mind it seems to take forever for the slide to close. Friends with a lightened slide go down sometimes to a 10lb spring.

I got to handle an Open gun with the Phoenix Trinity grip this weekend. Nice balance was the 1st thing that came to mind.

  11. Many times the mag release will keep the magazine from dropping if it is pressed too hard. You can test it by holding the gun with mag on table, pressing the mag release real hard then lifting the gun. The mag should fall right out. If not, you can remove the release and file the rounded corner that faces the mag on the release button side. I've had to do this on all my mag releases on STI 2011s.

Many don't notice it in dry fire or practice, only when under the stress of a match. They press the button too hard and the mag won't drop. However, in your case, I could fully believe those bear mitts of yours could be bending the plastic grip too.

The SVI trigger bow is not an easy fit to a STI 2011. I've researched it.

  12. On the 2011, you might also consider a shielded thumb safety. My thumb used to hit the slide occasionally and slow it down. I've been using a Swenson but Phoenix Trinity has developed a better one. There's also the thumb shield from Brazos.
