  1. My M1S90 21 inch is pretty darn close to being as new. When I shot my friends M1S90, I remembered the WALLOP that it could put on me with the souped up ammo that we were shooting.

The 1301 doesn't have the same kind of operating system does it? How does it shoot compared to the M1 that I have? Would I notice a difference if I were to shoot both of them side by side with the same ammo including slugs?

There are days I want to keep the M1 and the next day I want to swap it for a 1301 21 inch. I do like the extra little features the 1301 has like the ability to lengthen the butt pad, the oversized safety, the drilled and tapped receiver and the extra capacity it has from the box.

The Benelli is....well it's a BENELLI...what else can you say?

    Thanks all

  2. Hey all,

I've been wondering something. Can you all tell me how these 2 shotguns stack up against each other in terms of a Home Defense and 3-gun shotgun in STOCK configuration. Assume both have a 21 inch barrel.

If you had to pick one to protect your family with...which one would it be and why? Same question except this time its for a 3 gun match you are going to shoot.

I was able to look at these 1301 shotguns today at Gander Mountain. I really liked them. They had both the 21 inch VR barrel version and the 18.5 inch home defense model. I thought it felt really comfortable on the shoulder and I really like the ability to extend the butt pad to get the best possible fit.

I have an M1 with a 21 inch barrel and ever since handling those 1301's, I have been tossing around the idea of maybe trading mine for one. I'd like to get some advice from you guys, and opinions too if you don't care. I have never shot a 3 gun match, but would like to some time soon this year. I've never lived in a place where it was close enough to go and shoot in a match. Initially, my shotgun would be a Home Defense shotgun and fun at the range gun too.

    What do you all think?

Thanks for your time and any help you can give me.

  3. Hey all,

I've always wanted to participate in some of the gun games. IDPA and 3-Gun to name a couple. I really like the thought of being able to use all the kinds of firearms in a single match. Up until a year or so ago I had never lived in a place that had this stuff close enough to take advantage of. Now that I am in Houston, Texas, I know there are lots of places that host these kinds of matches frequently. I have concerns about my physical ability and whether they'd let me participate.

I have a back deformity where it is fused solid from top to bottom. It severely limits my mobility. I can walk, but I CANNOT RUN. I haven't been able to do that in over 20 years. If you look at me walking I appear kinda "hunched" over in my upper back. I can look ahead, but cannot look up. For instance, I cannot simply stand and look at the moon. I also have limited mobility in my neck from side to side. I can drive and look to my side, but not fast. I also can NOT go prone at any time, not gonna happen.

Now, I am not wanting to win anything, I just want to try and participate. I am wondering if they would let me because of my conditions. I know they have to be worried about safety, I am totally safe. Nothing in my condition would make me inherently unsafe. The thing is that I see stages where shooters have to crouch way down and shoot through a barrel or a tube at a target 100 yards down range or shoot prone at long range targets. I can never do those things. If I got to a stage like that, would they simply let me shoot them standing up like I normally would or would they tell me that since I can't shoot the stages exactly like they are supposed to be shot I cannot shoot the stage or participate?

Can you tell me how this would work for me, if at all and give some opinions on what it would be like for me?

    Thanks for your time.

  4. Can someone explain the Browning A5 thing? If the barrel and mag tube are not connected by a clamp, how could the threads shear off on the extension nut simply from the barrel reciprocating back and forth during firing? I mean I can see it if they are connected, but if they aren't...how? There were likely MILLIONS of those A5's sold over the years and who knows how many of them were used for bird hunting of some type where you can shoot shells all day long. If that happened wouldn't there be some kind of history to point to of the same thing?

Just curious. Please explain it if you don't mind.

  5. LOTS of really nice gear showing up here. Glad you all are letting the rest of us in on your toys.

I've been thinking about maybe trading my M1 21 inch for one of those Beretta 1301 21 inch. I really like the way they look and come from the factory. Besides, sometimes I just like something different.

    Keep 'em coming guys/gals.

    Thanks all.

  6. Hey all,

One thing I have noticed here is that there aren't very many pics. I wonder why cause EVERYONE knows that gun NUTS LOVE PICS....

So, I thought I'd start this thread in the hopes that you guys/gals would post pics of your shotguns so we all can enjoy all the awesome looking gear you all use all the time.

There's several I'd like to see like the Beretta 1301, the VersaMax, various Benelli setups, the Mossy's, Stoegers, CZ's and LORD knows what else. Just suffice it to say that I'd like to see ALL of them.

So, how about taking a minute and posting pics of your beloved shotgun(s)?

    Thanks

  7. Hey all,

Seeing that new Browning Auto 5 in the other thread set up for 3-gun piqued my curiosity. I have always liked the A5 and wanted one for a long time.

I've seen a few of them that were set up with mag tubes and such for 3 gun and Home Defense use, but not many. I'd like to see more pics of them.

So, if you have any pics of these Auto 5's set up for these gun games and HD use, how about posting them? If you have any experience with them, I'd also like to read about that as well.

    Thanks

  8. That is just one SWEET looking shotgun!! Glad you posted it.

I'm NOT a 3-Gunner. I've never done it, but would like to at some point this year. That's why I mentioned a shorter barrel. I look at it as a Home Defense shotgun instead of through the eyes of you guys, a 3-Gun competitor. I totally understand where you all are coming from though.

I have my Benelli M1 that I am going to start setting up for HD use and buying the parts needed. It has a 21 inch barrel and I really like the way it looks. When I see these new 3 gun shotguns like this one, the Stoeger, Remington Versa-Nax, Beretta 1301 and the CZ-712 Utility, it makes me look over at mine and think if I would rather have one of those than my Benelli. Sometimes I think YES, I would and with others, NO, I wouldn't. Hard to resist offering to trade on some of these shotguns though, very hard.

If this one had a 21 inch VR barrel, it would be one helluva internal struggle I'd be having.

  9. Hey all,

Looking to pick up a mag tube for my Benelli M1 and was told about one from CARLSON'S. It's all metal construction and comes with the spring, barrel clamp and new follower. I believe they are usually sold for about $55, give or take. That's not bad especially when you get the clamp and follower with it. They say it is an 8 Shot extension, so I guess it's a +4, but I've seen other companies that claim it's an 8 shot extension when it's really a +3. Some of them think that the Benelli shotguns come standard at 4+1 when they really come 3+1. So, it could be a +3 tube.

I'd like to hear from anyone that has any experience with them. If you know about them or have knowledge of these extensions, it would be great if you could tell me about their quality and value.

Thanks for any help you can lend.

  10. Hey all,

I am in the process of making a list of parts that I am going to get to make my M1 into a Home Defense or "tactical" shotgun, even though I hate that word. I don't shoot 3 gun, but would like to try it in the near future.

Anyway, one of the things I want to do is mount a light on the side of it. I know that when you put an extension on it you also use the barrel/mag tube clamp. Can anyone tell me if there is a clamp out there that will let you mount a light to it without having to put a second fixture on your mag tube? You know, have the clamp on there and just be able to add a rail to it to mount your light. Anything similar to that?

Can you all give me some guidance here?

Thanks for your help and time.

  11. That is one SWEET shotgun!! I have always liked and wanted an Auto 5.

I've seen several over the years where people have turned them into Home Defense guns and added an extension to them and they look good too.

If this new A5 was available with a 20 or 21 inch barrel, I'd be in a serious dilemma. I'd have to think long and hard on whether or not to trade or sell my basically new M1 with 21 inch barrel. I'd want it for HD use and to try 3-gun at some point in the future.

    Thanks for posting it.

  12. Hey all,

I have a Benelli M1 with a 21 inch VR barrel that I haven't shot or done anything to for probably 20 years. I've thought about it and I think I'm gonna turn it into a HD shotgun for the time being and then try and shoot a couple of these 3-Gun matches that you all talk about so much. I've never done it.

So, naturally I need some parts. Can you all tell me what BOLT HANDLE you all like to use? I don't keep up with this stuff very much and I don't know what all is out there. I've seen a couple that I don't like. I'd like something that also looks good too. I don't like the stock handle at all.

    Any info will be appreciated.

  13. Hey all,

I have an M1 that is in MINT shape and I was able to trade a member here my 24 inch barrel for his 21 inch. The barrel fits perfect and looks great. The only thing is that my forend didn't fit when the M2 barrel was in place. The barrel ring is in a different location on the new M2 barrels than it is on the M1 barrels. Therefore to get my forend to fit I had to take out the DREMEL and get busy. I had to remove quite a bit of material, but not that it would make it unstable or flimsy or anything like that. Right now it fits and fits good, and you can never tell that anything was done if you only look at the outside. I'd like to make it right on the inside though and get an M2 forend for it. I don't know whether it would fit my M1 receiver though. I called Benelli and got different answers. So I thought I'd ask you guys and see what you all have found. Will a new M2 forend fit my M1?

Also, what different bolt handles are available for use? I'd like to pick something up and liven up the looks of mine a bit. I do like that release that the guys that own the CZ 712 Utility had made and showed in their thread posted here. It looks a bit longer and is BRITE Stainless I thiink. It looks great though.

I also need a 3 shot mag extension. I don't want it past my barrel. Is Nordic the only way to go with this part or are there others that should be looked at?

Thanks for the help and your time.

    Happy New Year.

  14. Hey all,

I would like to ask you guys and gals your thoughts on what would be the best choice for a shotgun that is a capable performer in 3-gun as well as HOME DEFENSE? A lot of us can't go out and buy a dedicated 3-gun shotgun and would like to start with a home defense shotgun. I am currently looking for a HD shotgun and have always wanted to shoot 3-gun and try it and I have read a few posts here about some of the lower cost shotguns.

I don't see why a good HD shotgun couldn't serve as your 3-gun shotgun for quite a while if you choose that route. In fact, for someone like me I think it would be better to have a shotgun for HD that you also use in these gun shooting matches on occasion. What better way to get familiar and used to operating your HD shotgun in a tense situation than in a match?

Of course I know there have to be some out there that use pump shotguns, and I wouldn't mind doing that too. If I can though, I would rather go with a semi. If I later find that it is not in the budget, then I can go with a pump.

So, if you all wouldn't mind, can you tell what low cost shotguns out there would be a good fit for what I am describing? If you have pics of your shotguns that would also be great.

Any info and advice you care to post would be appreciated.

Thanks for the time and help.
