  1. ... If the gun that he shot at the match is the same one that the committe examined and found no problem with, then the matter is closed...

Should be no problem for the stats guys: just pull out the equipment sheets, checked (gun make + model, may be Serial Nr., at least competitors travelling from abroad passing border police or customs should not have "twins" with them) on every single stage including chrono and initial equipment check and thats it. Even I would notice the difference between a cz85 and sp01. At least I learned for further matches: serious equipment checks, not just sign it, especially for the super suads!

    kraut

I belive some of the competitors already stated that not equipment sheets where do be seen.

  2. Death cold of the universe?  Or did you mean cold death?

Really I meant heat death of the Universe .. which really is all about cooling. But you know I was under the sun for way to long this weekend so back off you and your voice of reason :P

  3. No offence, but did you come up with a fuel and did the goons come after you? There are solutions, but their deployment is costlier then oil. Lets say you can make cars that run on hydrogen and that you have a foolproof technology to distribute it. You need to convince countless gas station owners to buy in and put up their cash to retool, when there are only 5 cars on the road. Its a chicken and egg problem. Given the current price of oil, its just not worth it.

Sooner or later we'll get there. Its still cheap to burn gas, or otherwise you would have bought a different car.

  4. hmm .. So dont buy it. Or buy a car that uses less gas. Sorry guys, keep the governemnt out of it. The feds are NEVER the answer.

I like big cars as much as the next guy, but if you buy a vehicle that drinks a gallon every 8 miles, then the smallest price change hits you hard. If you drive car that gets 40mpg then the change means almost nothing. For example it would take $5/gallon before I really notice. I note that most of you are calling for the government to do something (remember when they did something about booze, guns, etc?) but not many are consider changing their lifestyle.

  5. "Being Bobby Brown" ... First time I heard about this train wreck I though my buddy was raving about the absurd. It took me 2 weeks to realize that he as refering to a real show and not a fiction of his sick mind. I think my brain refused to accept proof of that the death cold of the Universe is near.

  6. Sorry, nope, no way. If you want to compare this to the SCOTUS, then I remind you that we debate their decission for months, pass laws that work around them, and argue endlessly about the type of judges we send the bench. My concern goes deeper then this particular case and at the core of it is that I think that the production divion is being badly mishandled by the IPSC and that it is heading for a crash.

I think that blind acceptance of this kind of issues only makes it worse. Miss JG can be forgiving, and also she may not have an option because she also has to represent her sponsors. I dont have that problem. In the end, if we do not examine what the IPSC and USPSA leaderships are doing, then sooner or later we wont be shooting the same game.

  7. Also, if anyone who saw the gun in real life could help, are the grips sunk under the level the of the frame. Cause I want those grips if the do. In fact I really want grips with that profile. I own every set that CZ sells in the US, and non look like that.

Let me put it this way, I couldnt care less that the arbitration decide something. Even if that makes is IPSC "law", I disagree with pleanty of laws and lobby against them. People are allowed to disagree with think for themselves and request changes. Otherwise we dont get progress. I'm sure Adam Tyc is a great shooter, but I am really concerned that Mr Pinto lists his gun as a CZ85 (or at least the model he has inspected) when the pictures clearly show a CZ-SP01.

And do those who think these are sour grapes about Glocks and Sevigny, at least from my position, I shoot CZ's, dont like Glocks, never met Dave S and last I know Angus was coming in second place.

  8. I shot a 77.6 while C. It counted. I think the 15 above rule is being ignored, while the 15 below is being used. I think thats part of the upward bias of the classification system. BTW, I think its fine that way. You classification represents your best game, but you may not bring it out every match. I sure as heck dont.

  9. The match I shot last weekend here in NJ was beyond hot. We had one person get close to heat stroke and he had to be moved the club house and cooled down. Most people where is some state of unwell. I drank gallons of water but that only helps to keep me hydrated it doesn't do enough to keep me cool because with high humidity sweat doesnt work. You still sweat like mad but evaporation doesnt happen so cooling doesnt happen.

    Bleah.

  10. I'm sorry .. what? English is not my first language either so can you rephrase that.

OK, is Nederlands beter, oder in die Deutsche sprache, parlez vous francais, spanish might also be an option.

    GA = General Assembly

Clearly, however my lack of understanding concerns which particular GA decission you are refering and what "Does anyone what your RD will decide?" means. Also keep in mind the the USPSA rule book is not directly affected by GA votes.

  11. I suspect people will go for the capacity, but at those who cant afford the super wiz bang "production" race guns will be able to bring their 13 round .40's or .45's and not feel completely left out.

I think Jim had a speculative question. More of an intelectual "what if".  No one told anyone what to do.

why speculate. lets just look at what everyone shoots in limited. in limited you have the same option jim is suggesting. how many limited minors do you see? at the nationals, about 10 out of 240 chose minor. it sure looks like if people have the option, they prefer major scoring over increased capacity. personally, i think major scoring is a bit overrated...after all, an A hit is 5 points no matter what.

And you may be right. I do think there are a couple of differences however. With flush magazine rules the production capacity is generally not large enough to finish most stages, at least the longer USPSA kind ones. You are generally going to need a reload. Let me put it this way .. 17rd 9mm Glock scored minor or 15rd .40 Glock scored major? Thats a tougher choice in my opinion. You may need to do an extra reload on some really long stages using the .40 but the scoring advantage might be meaningfull overall.

The second reason, that most limited/standard guns cost $2000 and are LARGE. The average shooter showing up for the first time shooting production is much more likely to shoot a 15rd 9mm or a 13 round .40. IF you allow full size mags in production and want to make it friendly to newcomers then I think allowing the guys shooting major to be scored major would be a nice move. Most new shooters who shoot .40 or .45 in production do shoot factory ammo which very different from the usual 147gr slow moving 9mm 132 PF load that I shoot.

Personally I say keep the 10rd limit. This is an exercise in how we could do it differently if we want to.

  12. Assuming that your vehicle gets 15mpg and that a match is 300 miles away (about as far as I would consider going for a really good match) and using a $.70 price increase as a baseline that adds $28 to the round trip.

I dont know about you, but if there is a match worth getting up at the crack of dawn and getting my butt sore for 300 miles, eat bad food on the interstate, haul around gear worth $2000 or more, shoot ammo worth a pile, pay match fees, snacks, drinks, etc, then the additional $28 is not stopping me.

I think gas would have to hit $5 or more before I dramatically change how I drive, though I do drive a fairly efficient car so that math may be different for other people. I am also blessed that I live in an area where I can shoot pretty much every weekend day and between USPSA and various flavors of Steel I would have to decide which match to skip, all within 1h of my house.

  13. Wasn't the question about:

Why Not Producton Major?, In IPSC this would reduce the 9mm bias

.............You can disagree with me and maybe you are right, I dont shoot IPSC, so what do I know. However if I am right, allowing minor/major in IPSC production means you now have to choose between high capacity or Major powerfactor....................

If you are just shooting USPSA the thred must be about USPSA Division rules and not IPSC. Why bother about high caps anyway? USPSA has different rules as IPSC has. That OK. "Local"rules are allowed.

    ...

Ok, I wont take the bait and start a USPSA vs IPSC fight. Just remeber that about half of the IPSC memebership shoots under those "local" rules you refer to.

    Lets however answer your questions:

a ) As a USPSA member Jim is a IPSC member. He can speculate to his heart content about the IPSC rules. Hell he can do it if he was a member of the Icecream Polishing Society of Canada. Its a free world and asking questions and having disussions its how the world move forward. Maybe his idea sucks, maybe it doesnt. If you think it sucks attack his idea not his motives.

b ) The question is VERY valid in USPSA. It is not secret that a number of people would like to see USPSA production go to hi-cap rules. It is doubtfull that it will because it would screw to many people and the majority think the 10 round limit is good idea in this case. BUT if that does change, having the discussion about minor/major ahead of time opens up avenues of thought and possibilities not had before.

PS: this B) Smilley is a pain in my butt cause it makes it hard to make lists

  14. I filled my gas can for my lawn mower today and that cost me 12.45.  Maybe I need to start mowing my lawn every other weekend.

Or get some goats. Frankly I hate mowing the lawn, so now I have another excuse to give my wife .. Sorry hun .. its 'spensive Lucy!

  15. Lot of difference in the US... No Standard div. here.

Why should the rest of World do what the US wants them to do. Why ain't the US take a look over the fence and see how others do it and maybe think about doiing it different.

What I do read between the lines is how to get even with a gun with less rounds.

Pff, in 1993 no US shooter did not care they had High Cap gun while the others had none. Now it is different, the others have High Caps and the US 10 rounds max and suddenly rules have to be changed? Make no sense to me babe. B)

Moderators: I dont know if this is too close to the line. Feel free to nuke my post if you think it outside the bounds. It is not my intention to start a fight.

Huh .. thats a strange tone. No US shooters that I know tell international shooters what to do. Some of us may disagree but generally shrug. Please dont make this a fight where an honest question was asked.

I LOVE the way way US production is done, the 10rd limit allows a lot more guns to play, and hence reduces the price of admition for new shooters who can be competitive with whatever gun they may have. Currently the IPSC production division seems to be heading towards huge guns (no box to contain them) with the goal of max capacity. As such the birth of production race guns is upon us with guns from Tanfoglio, CZ, and SIG as the first few. Sooner or later the average semiautomatic someone may own as a new shooter will be about as usefull as a stick as far as the production division is concerned. Welcome to the new equipment race.

You can disagree with me and maybe you are right, I dont shoot IPSC, so what do I know. However if I am right, allowing minor/major in IPSC production means you now have to choose between high capacity or Major powerfactor. I suspect people will go for the capacity, but at those who cant afford the super wiz bang "production" race guns will be able to bring their 13 round .40's or .45's and not feel completely left out. This is of course completely unimportant in USPSA production as the problem is solved by the 10rd limit. I suspect part of the problem is that in most of the world firearm ownership has a different aspect then in the US and hence the different prespectives on the issue and on how important it is for the average Joe to walk in on at a match and not feel like they dont belong.

I think Jim had a speculative question. More of an intelectual "what if". No one told anyone what to do.

  16. I have been working in this myself. I generally put down one knee. Also when I run across ports just a tad lower then my head, I bend from my back and not from my knees. I've been trying to break myself of these habits and I found that for me, a wider stance helps with bending my knees easier. For the really low ports I also found that a viet crouch type possition is easier to get in and out of then most other things. By crouching all the way down I dont have to keep to much muscle tention in my legs while shooting and I am fairly stable. Its not as fast to get out of as a half crouch but it is a lot faster then kneeling.

I think you need to experiment and see what works for you.

  17. Actually I dont think that the auto industry is selling their product at a record low price. I think the opposite is true. Markups on vehicles is CRAZY and getting higher every year as far as I can tell. I'm quite amused when a vehicle gets $4000 more expensive from one year to the next, when nothing was changed on it.

As for Oil .. I dont know what to think. Maybe the Peak Oil guys are right. But on the other hand, what I dont understand is if the oil companies and I presume the worlds governements are aware of the coming social colapse that would result from oil shortages, why would either of them behave like they do? Seriously? They both seem to encourage growth of usage vs. even a hint of catastrophe. I gotta believe that they are not ALL phsycotic folks wishing to see the end of civilization, and frankly I think they could make MORE money by creating an early scarcity and making everyone compete for their product while its still easy to get. In other words the opposite of what they are doing.

    I dont know.
