  1. Any ranges/clubs that shoot USPSA regularly? Thanks much!
  2. Looking for USPSA matches in the Dallas area. Surfing expedition suggests they shoot IDPA there. Any wisdom out there? Much appreciated!
  3. While some foks have had good luck with Dawson sights, I broke 3 Dawsons in six months. First the front pin came out, then elevation screw broke (twice). Bought an SV competition and have had no issues. I like the removal of the corners on the competition sight. Dawson makes GREAT products and I'm sure they make great sights. Maybe my gun didn't like the sight!
  4. The HP is a great pistol, I've had three of them. Safariland makes a holster you can use for competition but if you want a top strap to secure the pistol for duty, you'll probably have to settle for a model suitable for a 1911. Depending on how much you intend to shoot the HP in competition, and the frame material (cast or forged), you need to watch the cross shaft above the trigger. The HP is one of my favorite pistols and clearly a global classic, but in .40 caliber the durability won't be equal to a 1911 or 2011. Steve
  5. For me, it's all about the distraction. When I'm on the range I have a heightened awareness of safety, noise, awesome shooting, friends going for it and succeeding, seeing disappointment sometimes, humor (lots), competitive spirit, learning, and friendship. Besides the rush of shooting competitively - something most people will never do. Get with the right squad and you'll meet people you'll never forget.
  6. So will the DAA case gauges take 40 OAL's out past 1.20"? . Can't say from experience.
  7. I just received my Double Alpha Golden Case Gauge. EGW makes excellent products but their case gauge will not accept long loads. I highly recommend the Double Alpha gauge. The design enables you to load and unload two rounds at a time. Not cheap but case gauges don't wear out! Steve
  8. Thanks everyone! Guess I'm going to the 'smith for a ream job and maybe a milling! Appreciate the help!
  9. I have a 7 round EGW case gauge and have used it while loading 40 S&W to 1.12 - 1.135. It's an excellent case gauge and I highly recommend it to anyone loading to factory spec lengths. My issue is when I extend the loaded length to 1.145+, the rounds do on drop fully into the case gauge. It's not the case diameter. If I shorten the OAL the round drops in the gauge perfectly. In the longer loads the bullet appears to be stopping in the gauge due to the reduced diameter of the end of the gauge. It will drop fine into the barrel but not the gauge. I've searched the web looking for a description that indicates the EGW case gauge is calibrated for an factory spec OAL but cannot find any info on the gauge being calibrated to an OAL. What are you folks using to check the case diameter when loading 1.16 - 1.20? Anyone using the Double Alpha 20 round case gauge for long loads? Thanks for your help.
  10. Thanks Bill! Appreciate the time you gave us. Steve
  11. Here's what I'm thinking of trying. texascoolvest.com Any experiences shared are greatly appreciated. Seems some folks have been using these for a while.
  12. Summer's coming and it was triple digits in Phoenix last weekend. Any hot weather shooters out thers with experience using cooling vests? Phase change vests, not evaporative vests. They're not cheap ($150 - $250) I'm looking to get testimonials and average length of cooling charge in Phoenix in 100 degree heat. Thanks in advance guys!
  13. Patrick,

I was reading an old post where you were going to try to wear out a BHP MKIII. Any update you could give me please?

  14. Great posts Sean - Thank you! Don't forget the truck keeps things out of sight! Steve
  15. Hi, I currently have a 7 round chamber checker from EGW. I highly recommend this product. Has anyone used the 50 round version? What has your experience been? My main question is how do you manage to get all those rounds out without things spilling all over the bench? Any and all comments appreciated. Thanks! Steve
  16. I shoot a HP with Heine sights, nothing out of the ordinary. I've noticed that my accuracy is considerable better when shooting 3' high targets compared to 4-5' high targets. Any comments or suggestions appreciated! Steve
