  1. Noticed this after our last match. Might think about putting it to use. especially helpful knowing if a particular quad as the issue or a particular stage.

I can not fathom ever doing scores the old way ever again. Can you wrap your mind around paper score sheets and Not-So-EzWinScore?

  2. Cowboy guns are, or can be fun, but a SSA revo is ridiculously slow to load unless you change out cylinders. If that was the rule, then MAYBE.

A WWII Division, Pump SG, M1, BAR, Springfield, Johnson, Enfield. 1911 or Revo for the Allies, Mauser, Walther or Luger, Pump SG, Caranco, period Beretta HG, Ariska and Nambu for the Axis.

Could be a fun match. might be better as a standalone

  3. The Safariland belt with ELS an QLS points is fantastic, it allows for near instant reorganization of your gear. You can even remove the holster and throw on extra shot sell holders if that is what a stage demands. Seconds to move rifle to the rear, pistol to the side and shot sells up front or any other configuration.

  4. I'm not a Computer expert here, so dumb question, can I copy the app from one android device to an other and load it via a card? I seem to be having an issue going directly to the Google App Store from the nook in question. If so, is there a specific set of directions to accomplish this?

    Thank you!

  5. Timing is an important function to most networked devices. Yes, I've seen it on the tablets and in server farms. Either set them all manually or have them sync off an internet site that is reputable, they will have a good stratum clock to keep it on time.

The one that Eugene listed is a good app (best route) but you can do it manually also.

OK, so how does one set the clock on a nook manually? I've rebooted, I've changes time zones. My clock is off 12 minutes and it alternates from 12 min fast to 12 min slow.

  6. How we do it at Old Bridge

    Registration is done online.

Registration for club members opens up two weeks prior to the match.

Registration for non-members opens up one week before the match

Registration for all closes Saturday afternoon OR when we are full (Rare int eh Summer months, usually 70 shooters in the cold and dark)

A stage request email is sent out during the week leading up to the match.

The Master Device, in our case, an IPad, is loaded with the registered shooters and the stages are built, this occurs the night before the match

Saturday night we print out the club waiver with all the registered shooters names alphabetically listed.

We also print out the squad lists and the unsquadded shooters list.

    Sunday morning at the range

Shooters arrive, sign in and pay

Unregisterded shooters register, sign in and pay.

Unregistered shooters are added to the IPAd

Any changes to the stages are made

The Nooks are synced to the IPad

    Squad lists are finalized.

Each Stage gets a Nook, they do not travel. We lose a Nook we lose a Stage, not a match!

Squadding is NOT done in the Nooks, they are set to ALL SHOOTERS.

Squads are called, stage briefs are handed out along with the timers and Nooks.

After the Match all Nooks are returned to me and are synced back to the Ipad.

We collect the squad sheets and any required updates or changes are made, E.G., Member Number, Division, Power Factor that we might have missed during sign up.No-Shows are deleted if I didn’t get to that that earlier and preliminary scores are posted.

    Match Construction

Stages are vetted prior to the match and are put on the ground by the shooters. We have aa trailer for each stage with walls, target stands, sticks, steel targets etc. They are pulled out to the respective pit and the Stage Designer and his buddies generally build the stage. One of our MDs walks all stages to make sure they are in compliance with the rules and are safe as well as making sure any movers are properly set up and functional.

We do the match brief, make any announcements, call out the squads and it is Hammer Time!

Usually start the build about 0700, hammer down about 1000, we are usually at the Diner by 1700. On occasion we are done earlier. Six Stages plus a Classifier, usually 160 plus rounds, lots of walls, runs, movers and steel.

  7. Some rules make reasonable sense, others not so much. I understand an approved targets list, you don't want to travel a distance to a match and find out that they use some offbeat target with odd scoring lines or bowling pin steel. You signed up for a USPSA match, however, so long as the targets are approved for the type of match, E.G., Handgun targets only in a handgun match, we should be able to mix any approved target on a stage. Rules say no.

For non USPSA Matches, do I care? So long as the targets are the same for everyone, why care? In fact, mixing targets makes differentiation for HG, LG and SG easier. Colors are bad as some people have issues and the lighting can be a problem, make it simple, Metrics for HG, Mini's or 3GN for Rifle, Classics for Slugs, Clays for SG Steel any kind for HG or Shot. You get choices and easy assignment of system as well as solving most scoring issues easily.

  8. Really? Since when is a second run a legal score for the competition? You can submit as many classifiers as you'd like to pay for, but only the first run in the division you have signed up for the match in counts towards the match.

You can't buy a Mulligan in USPSA

  9. I say go for it!

    Open

    Open Revo

    Open Rimfire Auto

    Open Rimfire Revo

    Limited Revo

    Limited Rimfire Auto

    Limited Rimfire Revo

    Open PCC

    Limited PCC

    Open Rimfire Carbine

    Limited Rimfire Carbine

Miss anything? They are all FUN and if enough people shoot them, why not and if only one person wants to shoot, go ahead, they pay to play, who are they hurting? At our last indoor steel rimfire only, I dragged out my 39A and ran two runs with a lever action carbine. If I could reload it fast enough I might do it for a whole match. It was a blast and frankly not that slow, I did as well as a number of iron sighted semis.

If we didn't push we'd still have Open with Limited/Standard as a category and that would be that! Thanks to people pushing we now have a place for just about anyone. Heck we had one Cowboy shooter show up and use 5 SAA revos! he did a 'non-PC' reload!

  10. I could be wrong, but the reassignment function on the nooks seems to not be on the IoS system, or I just can't find it.

Long tap in iOS app. But I was asking what is missing in Android...

Thank you for pointing this out. It took me a while to figure out what a 'Long Tap' is and where to do it, now I know. I'll have to get back to you on items in Android, I thought I was sure, but now I am not and I can't grab them just now.

  11. If the Android version adds the few items it is missing form the IoS version AND the IoS version adds the few missing items this would be fantastic. That said, a used IPad isn't that expensive and it make PS Rock!

I am going to totally bypass my laptop next time.

  12. I've been doing the stats at our club since back in the WinMss days. Practiscore is IT. EzWinScore is anything but EZ and unless you are running some match that USPSA HQ insists be run on EZ, then there is absolutely no reason to run EZ. Caveat here. We do not post our club scores to USPSA.org, we show our scores only on our own website so I am not sure if that functionality is present in PS.

  13. I run the 1oz. Fiocchi, but if the Federals are working and you have them, use them. The cost of slugs in a match is far less than the cost of a malfunction. If you want to cut it close, do it in practice, use the 100% stuff in matches. Remember the difference between going home and going home happy might be one slug FTE.

  14. Fun show, there are some ammo sales there, no gun sales. Some equipment, but not everything. Lots of firearms if you are looking to handle before buying, you might find more options here than at any store or range. The 'other' sporting goods and Hunting trips are very well represented. You can easily spend a full day and probably more depending upon what you are looking for.

  15. But of course, I also hold the opinion that pre-mounting the gun in ANY clay sport is a crutch as well...

IMHO... the BEST solution is to buy a good gun and have it PROPERLY fitted to YOU

Funny you say this. I am only a VERY casual trap shooter. I have always shot with my gun down and mounted it only after calling for the bird. I cannot tell you the number of times I had to call 2-3x to get them to throw a bird. Seems I was the odd man out. Everyone starts mounted. And it DOES make a difference in your score, that extra time to mount gets the bird well down range compared to starting mounted and aiming at your ready spot on the house.

As for the high rib, I seriously doubt I'll ever own a dedicated trap gun. I shoot a Browning Citori O/U, I do have an adjustable comb, and interestingly enough after screwing around with it for what seems like ever, it is now in the fully retracted setting, as if it did not exist and my scores in SC and Trap are the better for it.

  16. Having a number of people reporting on what a new piece of equipment is bringing to the game is important and useful. I can't afford to go out and buy every new piece that comes along. This gives me the opportunity to narrow the field. If someone like Pat or Mark says it is only OK, I read that as not necessarily worth my time, if they says it is a good piece, I'll look, if they say that it is good for the price, I usually think that it means that it is OK, but I can do better and likely will not be happy with it.

The same goes for shooting advice, there are people that I'll listen to and people I don't. Also there are a lot of newer, less experienced shooters here that do need what to a more experienced shooter sounds like too simple to mention, but is a simple thing that can make a difference to a novice.

Also there is a certain civility that is usually maintained here that keeps things from getting into measuring matches. It is one reason that this forum is so respected. There is little tolerance for discord here.

  17. You are already in Maryland, so, Drive up through PA, gas up and head east across NY State avoiding the city, head north on the NY Thruway and cross over into Vermont, then shoot across NH into ME. You'll spend no time in NJ, CT or MA. it is about 225 miles from the NY/PA Border to the NY/VT border on Route 4.

Lock it all in the trunk of your car. Keep the ammo separate from the guns and the magazines empty. In VT you can carry, also in Maine I think, not sure, but I don't think NH has permitless carry.

Please note that I am NOT an attorney nor do I represent any of the states involved. My personal choices have become to avoid New England and NYS as much as is possible. I generally head south and west.

Have fun. For the record we have done a number of family vacation/ area matches over the years, in fact, my wife and daughter have usually helped out at registration and stats.
